- Welcome to episode 1 of Journey Thru Animation, where Jeremy and I take a deep dive into each of Walt Disney Studio's animated films. We will be having a discussion about every Walt Disney Studios animated film, giving our impressions and some background about each film, and its place in the Walt Disney Company’s history.
In this episode, we discuss the very first film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

This series is dedicated to the creative talent that Walt Disney culminated, and to all the hard work they put into creating their feature length animated films.
The Prince isn’t a bad character in this film… he isn’t a character at all. He’s a reward for Snow White. It’s all symbolic for audiences that just went through the Great Depression. Powerful art!
The beginning of a new era for Matterhorn Matt. Lots in store. I like Snow White and that they're changing Snow White's Scary Adventures. Snow White's the movie that started it all for the studios. Even Tiki Room includes Snow White as a nice, fun way to tell you to leave
The fact we’re making the Disneyland ride better shows we actually care
Really enjoyable! I appreciated your noticing small details that I've missed, like the naming of the Dwarfs and the Old Hag breaking the fourth wall. I am excited to see the rest of this series!
Wtf! I just found the Journey thru Imagination videos. This was 5 months ago? Where was I?
Did this get demonitized? Bruh. Also this hour just flew by. That was great.
Excited for this series, DINOSAUR is my favorite Disney movie. Let’s go get that dino
Do Song of the South and Splash Mountain next please!
We will be going in chronological order of release date. So stay tuned for Song of the South soon!
Amazing video! When is the next video one coming out? Pinocchio, and Fantasia? Cant wait😁😁😁😁
Really love this concept! Great job, looking forward to more episodes
Awesome job! cant wait for the next episode
The difference in the voice of The Evil Queen and The Old Hag;s voices is that Lucille La Verne took out her false teeth. I don't remember where I first heard that, but it is mentioned on her page of the Disney Wiki .
While not the best it’s also not the worst. Dopey is my favorite dwarf. My favorite scene is the transformation scene.
Sure, the Prince is one of the weaker aspects of the film but we got to remember that this was the first ever animated feature film (okay so it's technically not when being picky with history, there have been two before Snow White historically, though neither was released on a big scale and the very first one is consindered lost while the other wasn't fully animated like this, it was animated crudey through sillouettes), nobody have ever done a movie with animating humans in a realistic manner and/or style, so it was hard for the animators to do Snow White, the Queen, The Huntsman and especially the Prince. They had so hard time making the prince look realstic and convincing that Walt Disney had to cut planned sequences of The Prince being captured and mentally tortured by making skeletons come alive and dance in front of him. Those ideas were recycled for Prince Philip's capture in Sleeping Beauty when the animators have learned how to realistic male humans over the years.
In fact, because of how hard it was to animate realistic humans in a natural way, the animators were heavily relied on rotoscoping were they filmed live actors and traced their movements to make the movements more natural. The dwarfs, as you say, were more "cartoony", they're more caricatured and comical characters and therefore you could get away with the squash-and-strech technique the animators were best known for, being used in the Mickey Mouse shorts and Silly Symphonies, making them easier to animate.
I’m very excited for the chicken little episode XD
Great job as always, Matt! As for my thoughts on Snow White: Even though we have gotten so many better Disney animated features since this one, I still really enjoy this film. The story is solid, the characters are enjoyable, the animation, though showing its age, still looks really good, the songs are memorable, and it set the groundwork for what future animated features would build upon and perfect in the future. I personally give Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs 3.5 gooseberry pies out of 5. Looking forward to more episodes of this series! Next time, we’ll learn to wish upon a star.
Grim Natwick animated S.W......and Marc Davis was only his assistant animator. Please get your facts of animation history correct please.....it's on the internet or various disney snow white books.
