While I welcome a new ‘Tour Level’ ball targeted at the more modest (normal) swing speed golfer. I have to challenge a couple of (marketing) points raised in the video. First Tour Response is not the only game in town (Srixon Q Star Tour for example) Second, Srixon try to mitigate the negative attributes of using just two piece construction by using a variable compression core (EGC) in the Srixon Soft feel. While I understand you guy’s don’t want to bite the hand that feeds. I do expect you to challenge the obvious just a little.
@@clubchampionmedia thanks! after a little more research, the Project (a) is a 70 compression ball and the Tour Response is a 40 compression ball. That has to be one of the lowest compression balls I have ever seen. Wouldnt that mean its for slower swing speeds? With Matt's higher swing speed, would be curious as to how it works out.
It's not the only one on the market. That's just not true. Wilson Duo Pro is a urethane ball for $34. Snell MTB-x is one of the best available and it's $29.
Dean Snell was the main guy I believe on the pro v and also the main guy on Taylormades 5 layer ball program. Snell makes some of the best balls in golf.
Agree with some of previous comments. In uk these balls appear to be discounted to about £35 per dozen compared to TP5 or Pro vi which are available for £37-£40 a dozen, therefore, performance will be more a factor than price and therefore the target sector referred to in the video are unlikely to be interested.
I think he's specifically talking about OEMs making urethane under $35 price point.. and he's wrong.. Wilson does with Duo urethane and so does Srixon with the Q-Star Tour. Many direct to consumer as well, but he's talking OEM.
Loving the move to 'visual tech' to make the balls easier to track. I lose sight of a plain white ball at about the 200y mark (and even less on a cloudy day) and have to rely on my playing partners to tell me where my ball ended up. It makes it harder to find a wayward ball if only one of you was able to keep track of it.
It would be interesting for you to test this ball against other mid-price balls from other mainstream manufacturers, eg Titleist TrueFeel & Srixon AD333/QStar
I have tested this ball at my pro shop the past couple days and the ball very much reminds me of the first iteration of Callaway Chromesoft. Soft feel, spins well, higher launch off irons, ball speed off driver about 2 mph lower than a Pro Vx for me.
If you ignore the low marketing balls auch as Snell and Vice and even the Kirkland at 2 dozen for $29 CAD, there is still the Wilson Duo urethane for $40 CAD or Optix Pro for $45 CAD and regularly on sale for $30-$35, Project A and Q-Star Tour all in That price range. I am guessing it is a rebranded and marketed Project A to combat lost sales to online companies and these other brands
Would MUCH rather hear TXG's unbiased review, through testing, of this and any other ball - as you have done to date. The hyperbolic sales pitch(es) is (are) off brand for your loyal audience.
If we had a chance to test the ball at the time the video was made we would have. Product releases and access aren’t as cut and dry as some think, in this case we could only get some introduction and information filmed for the channel. We’ll test it in the studio as soon as we receive them.
Fascinating! I love what TM has been doing with their ball for a while now. I was a life-long Titleist guy and switched to TP5x about a year ago and haven’t looked back. I’m looking forward to trying the new Pix ball and even having a look at the yellow ball. Thanks for a great video!
Good video, guys! It seems like this new ball is a re-iteration of the project (a). Testing will tell if it's any better or not. I've been buying up the Bridgestone B line for $30-$35 a dozen. I mostly play the B-RX, but all four balls are about the same price. The prices have been around there for a year as they prepare for the new Tour B line to launch. It's an insanely good deal for those balls. Long and consistent and durable. I don't need a ton of spin on the courses I play. The B-RX stops just fine. And I have a 90-95 mph driver swing, so all balls pretty much go the same distance for me. The B-RX does seem to get more iron carry, though. But I'm probably just remembering the really good shots.
Great vlog gentlemen! I'm really interested in seeing what both balls do in your testing... Patiently waiting..NOT!! Thx for sharing TXG, it's always an education for me!
And yet it performs in all categories as well as the ProV, TP5 etc. Marketing slogans and phrases lose meaning when real testing is done. A ball either performs for you or it doesn't.
Ask MyGolfSpy if soft is slow ;-0 Callaway ball is being redesigned do to its lower speed per MGS after they did their ball testing. I like the TP5 but will stay with the Snell MTB-X. No reflection on TXG thanks for bringing another review, always good to hear direct from the manufacturer.
So does this mean that we can all expect them to be cheaper than the Project A? If not then I don’t really see what’s different. Both urethane cover and the project a spins on ice so I’m just curious as to how they think this is something new that they’re doing?
This looks like a softer Project (a) which was a brilliant ball. I'd expect this ball to not go as far off the driver but go a mile off the irons. When I switched from Project (a) to Bridgestone Tour B X I gained 3mph on driver ball speed but lost about 5 yards carry per iron compared to the Project (a)
You guys are awesome... I love your channel (most informative/helpful/enlightening golf channel on the web). Obviously, you wanted to be gracious guests and not push back, but he is careful to state that no *OEM* ball has a urethane cover at that price point. But Snell's MTB-X (okay, so not OEM - a distinction that literally NObody should care about) has a urethane cover and has performance characteristics that are right there with the 'premium' balls. People still pay for the premium balls ONLY because TM and Titleist have the money to pay stars big $$$ to play their brands, so golfers want the same things the pros play. Pros have told Dean Snell they'd play his ball on tour if Snell would pay them, and he has said (so far) no thanks.
The TP5 is a awesome ball, I'm looking froward to trying these new balls at a lower price point and seeing how that work for my game. Taylormade golf balls are a excellent IMO.
Everyone loves to use a premium ball,But could you do a review of golf balls which would be the better option for the golfer with a slower swing speed and that might lose a couple of balls a round through miss hits/drives.
Looking forward to response ball testing against premium ball to see the difference if any. Being a lower price point it will be a contender for my bag 👍
Bottom line is there are more high performance products out there at more reasonable prices. This is a good thing. Not all reviews will knock your socks off but courtesy calls and paying attention to the entire marketplace are a strength of this channel. Mind you, I’m the arch enemy of cynicism:)
What does he consider an OEM? last I checked there are about 5 balls on the market at that price point with urethane covers. Dean Snell probably came unglued listening to this! lol
4:30 in and... Ok I got the point. You put a urethane cover on a lesser-cost ball. Made it to about 7:30. ZzzZzzzz I played the Project a and liked it until I literally cracked one almost in half with my driver.
Not on topic, but I am curious on how lie angle would be effected on a set of clubs if a golf were implementing a single plane swing like a Moe Norman style. Haven’t tried it much myself but have always been curious and wondered if my clubs would need to be altered to truly be effective implementing that swing style.
From listening to what this guy says, the difference in distance between low and high compression balls is huge, in practice for the majority of players it's minimal. Eg Titleist Velocity v ProV1x, completely opposite balls in concept, negligible difference in distance.
Tell me how it competes with Cut, Snell, Vice and you’ll have my attention. It’s not coming in the next year, but when these online ball companies start making it big, they may eat into some of the big boys market share. Prices hopefully will come down
In what way is this "Tour Response" ball not a just version 4 of the Project (a) ball? AFAICT it's a 3 layer ball with same price & cover . Mike Fox said the identical things about the Project (a). Same cover, same 3 piece, same compression. Hello Project (a). That's a lot of infomercial for the same ball.

So the Project A is urethane and 70 compression. This "new ball" is urethane and 70 compression (over all even if the core is 40)... So what else is new?...
Hi, just a heads up in case hasn’t been brought to your attention yet. I love TXG and really enjoy the interviews they have with product folks. But, we all know so much of what is said is marketing hyperbole or just plain B.S.. I agree with others here in that I would like to have seen the boys push back on the claims given there are numerous balls with the same cover material.
@@ronaldstark8342 its probably TM trying to claim they are the first to do something that they saw someone else do before. Look at their new truss putters claiming first of its kind and titliest and another company tried that design before
I dont understand why Taylormade and Callaway add alignment or putting feedback aids on golfballs and only sell them on $60 a dozen golf balls. They need to put them in the affordable models, or at least mid range. People will not pay an extra $2 a ball for alignment aids
It's great. But, that's quite the overstatement. Better than pro v1? Better than tp5? I think not. It's in the same league, imo. And that's saying a lot, at that price.
Not sure if they’re still being produced, but the Top Flite Gamer ball has (had) been out for years as a budget urethane ball and was around $25/dozen. I love TM products but this guy clearly doesn’t know what he’s talking about
Really, only urethane ball at this price point? Wilson professional, Srixon Q Star, Seed Golf, Vice Golf ..... the list goes on. Come on TaylorMade we're not idiots.
Someone should tell this Taylormade dude that his “affordable urethane ball” is still more expensive then snell. And $10 more per dozen if you buy a few boxes at a time. What a joke
Very interesting and informative, the golf ball is so important! Golfers spend hundreds of pounds on clubs, but don't give enough consideration to the ball they use! Make's no sense!
Great they are doing it but already had 2 urethane balls for that price in the project a and the v3 urethane. And same price in the uk as the bridgestone tour b models and chromesoft.Taylormade must think the consumers are pretty dumb making these false claims
So if you can “afford” or have time to play multiple times a week you don’t care about wasting money? Maybe they can afford to play multiple times a week bc theyre not pissing $1 away every time they lose a ball
This is rubbish, I’m now using the Kirkland signature ball from Costco which is now available in England, it has a Urethane cover and is 3 piece, can’t tell the difference between it and a pro v, price £27 for 2 dozen
Hasn't taylormade already put this on market in the project (a)? It was always sub $40 and urethane covered
They haven't put it on the market before - with multi-coloured images and the Taylormade Tour Response + PIX 2.0 name though. So, it is new ;-)
exactly what I was thinking...
would like to see these vs the Srixon Q Star Tour, which is also a budget friendly urethane ball.
The Q Star tour is a great ball. I’ve been playing then for three years. My shop sells them for $20 a dozen

Someone should tell this Taylormade dude that his “affordable urethane ball” is still more expensive then snell. And $10 more per dozen if you buy a few boxes at a time. What a joke
Just play Tp5’s :) worth the money :)
Very interesting and informative, the golf ball is so important! Golfers spend hundreds of pounds on clubs, but don't give enough consideration to the ball they use! Make's no sense!
Oncore Elixr balls for 17.50 a dozen. So your double the price. Note this is off of their buy one get one sales.
I’ve got 5 letters for you - S N E L L
Yup they make a good ball.
Great they are doing it but already had 2 urethane balls for that price in the project a and the v3 urethane. And same price in the uk as the bridgestone tour b models and chromesoft.Taylormade must think the consumers are pretty dumb making these false claims
Srixon Q-Star Tour
Sorry fellas. A $3 is not considered "affordable" when the best ball in the world is only $4.
Johnny Penso probably aimed at ppl who lose 6+ balls a round so it’s significant if you play multiple times a week/month.
If you can afford/have the time to play multiple times a week, a dollar a ball isn't going to mean anything to you.
So if you can “afford” or have time to play multiple times a week you don’t care about wasting money? Maybe they can afford to play multiple times a week bc theyre not pissing $1 away every time they lose a ball
@@justgettinby8260 Math is not your strong suit.
Johnny Penso ooh a zinger there! Seems I do math about as well as you hit a 7 iron/driver...
1000s of rpm??? so why do we need tp5 and x?? contrast between this and Mizuno Chris Voshall spiel anyone? know where my money's going🙄
cut blue = $20/dozen for urethane balls
This is rubbish, I’m now using the Kirkland signature ball from Costco which is now available in England, it has a Urethane cover and is 3 piece, can’t tell the difference between it and a pro v, price £27 for 2 dozen
