    Man, these deck techs are the ones I love on commander decks because it's not your typical staples deck, the decks might not be the most powerful ones but they seem fun and most importantly unique.

    I used to have 20+ decks, but post WAR/ELD I took most apart realizing the amount of tuning and upgrades needed to sustain them with the new era of FIRE design. I now sit at about 7 to 8, and it’s been fun finding certain cmdrs to really focus on and make as strong as can be versus spreading all my resources thin.

    • @dahuntre
      @dahuntre 3 года назад +2

      That’s what I should do! I’m always hopping around new brews, letting old decks sit unplayed with good cards. I’ve started taking apart decks that del similar to others, like Savra and Sek’Kuar both going wide but Sek has red and I already have Jarad

    When I started playing Magic in the 90s, I was a Red/Black player. After about a year, the Pentagram format had really taken off. Every Thursday, our LGS had a game night, not a tournament, just plenty of players to choose from. It was typical to get together with your casual playgroup and play Pentagram, and then break off to duel or play 2 Headed-Giant.
    I got stuck with Green. I was mad. I was furious. I was shocked...at how much fun I had playing green. To this day, green is my go-to color. Red has become meh to me. I use it to support another color to make a deck work but I wouldn't build a mono-red today, despite the fact that when I started red was my favorite color.

    I strive for unique decks, and mono blue, I have my Aggro Sphinx deck, which may have one counterspell spell in it and focus heavily on combat.

    • @ryansprenkle6356
      @ryansprenkle6356 3 года назад

      The big problem with blinking Rona is that when she comes back, she can't see the cards that she previously exiled. Which means that if you exile a card and blink her before casting it, it's gone forever.
      I've actually been thinking about trying to build a budget Rona deck, but I really don't feel like blink is a good focus for the deck. I was looking at doing a weird enchantment thing with sagas and shrine.

      @@Lowelo860 it’s a struggle sometimes tbh. I’m currently trying to build a gruul deck that isn’t centered around creatures/combat. Building around Wort or Rosheen doesn’t appeal to me either. I think WOTC needs to try out different angles with certain color combos. There are quite a few color combos that have a ton of commanders but they all do the same exact thing

    The worst part about Rona is that new instances of her do not recognize the cards exiled by previous instances as being exiled with her, for example the Rona you get when Voyager's Staff your her and she comes back is a "different" Rona. If she exiled them with some kind of counter and said you could cast cards exiled with that type of counter, then she would be miles better. As she is, she is just a janky commander that doesn't really have the synergy to overcome the jank. Which is really a shame because she technically fits my Urza Saga/Weatherlight/Gerrard theme I'm running with for my 32, and right now the only other option is Dralnu which does not interest me at all.

    Today I have 5 commander decks, one each color and all very strange ones:
    White - General Jarkeld (sometimes I dismantle this for my Michiko Konda) - Tahnks for the tips on your video!
    Blue - Chisei, Hearth of the Oceans
    Black - Phage the Untoucheable
    Red - Used to have a Kurkesh, now is a Valduk
    Green - Reki, the History of Kamigawa
    Usually I play on a competitive group so my deck runs all the nastiest to stay as competitive I can: declaration of naught, Nevermore, Hall of Gemstones, ruination... and have a 10-15 sideboard on my deck to take out this cards for a "tone down" in case I play against a weaker deck. But nevermore a Narset with the weakest colour and commander on table is great!
    Now I'm starting to build two colour ones... starting with Xantcha

      Volrath is super fun. I went a bit of a different route (I think mitch from commander's quarters built it similar to me). I have a bunch of small creatures with hexproof, indestructible, infect, or are unblockable. Then a few with combat damage effects like cold eyed selkie or cephalid constable (super mean). You can make him unblockable, attack, and then before damage change him to an infect creature or cephalid constable. Very sneaky

    Your deckbuilding style is really cool and fun and inspiring! I loved this a lot. While I also like full blown deck techs, this lite very general description also has my brain spinning with ideas.
    I want to gently push back against the decks you labelled as cEDH. From my understanding, cEDH is a vibrant meta of very specific builds that prioritize efficiency over cool interactions/ideas, and while those decks definitely seem powerful, they wouldn't hold up in a true cEDH meta because of some of the more flavorful cards I see in there. I understand power is relative, but the misunderstanding between powerful casual decks and cEDH decks leads to a lot of hurt feelings in games! There is a cEDH decklist database you can find pretty easily, I recommend looking at it!

    First video I've watched and you've earned my subscription! If you want a fun Izzet deck that does something different than usual izzet shenanigans, Rielle does things that can be sometimes similar to Locust God but the way I built it was much more voltron/protection spells that happen to have cycling to be doing interactive intermittent advantage. Tawnos and Brudiclad are really neat as well, Tawnos reminds me of my favorite mono red commander Kurkesh but adding blue could make it extra spicy. Thank you for your content!

    With the Volrath deck you should absolutely have Farmstead Gleaner and Viridian Joiner in the deck. Each is good by itself as the Gleaner lets you untap Volrath as long as it has a counter on it, and the Joiner can give you a ton of green mana; together they give you infinite green mana and an infinitely large Volrath. Spawnwrithe is another good creature to copy as the tokens you get from your Volrath-as-Spawnwrithe are 7/5s. Also, Sultai Ascendancy.
    Also, my only 4 colour deck is my Atraxa deck which everyone in my playgroup loves me playing as they like to see what craziness it will do this time.....it is a Horror tribal deck with no planeswalkers and very little except for the vivid lands to proliferate.
