    Yes, I am feeling this feeling of almost guilt....... I haven't in the past. I was proud to wear a Chanel bag because of the fashion house but now the fashion house doesn't really stand for what Coco Chanel envisioned...I read that she wanted to inspire people to live freely and promote each other, Coco never intended to make her bags and accessories exclusive....now the brand is only in the rat race for money. The elites responses must never have read the definition of the term....or they should possibly be embarrassed to define themselves as elite. It's not a positive attribute folks....Elites, a select group that is superior in terms of ability or qualities to the rest of a group or society. That is definitely NOT what Coco Chanel envisioned.

      They’ve become a huge joke, dig a bit deeper (many platforms are being roasted and dissected). Designer allegiance is such a problematic position given the state of the world and the suffering of people and the environment. Humility will eventually be given its rightful place in the social media sphere (humility combined with social media clout = oil and water but dumpster fire worthy).

    Everytime I take my chanel out with the double Cs, I get stares from everyone. It made me really self conscious. This used not to happen to me in the mid-2000s. Now the price of the bags have enticed a lot of envy from people and make you a target for thieves. They are more like liabilities. They were better when they were only around 2000 USD. That is what they are really worth, logo and all.

      Agreed. I feel the same way. The tone of many rooms has definitely gotten colder when I wear my black small CF.
      I have worn my CF with the logo inward when walking to a show in my local downtown, but I don't even want to do that anymore. Too many opportunists everywhere looking for an easy mark.
      Chanel is making it very clear they don't want the people who save/budget for their bags. They want the people who can drop coin in a heartbeat, and in doing so have changed their legacy for the worst IMO.

    I feel the same about wearing them. I feel it's become so exuberant that it's as if I'm asking for attention, when I'm not. Or like I'm trying to display some form of wealth or status. Yes, they're nice bags, and I like that they're of luxury status, but it's becoming BEYOND.

    • @SuperDacob
      @SuperDacob  Год назад +8

      I completely agree Danie. I got my small timeless classic when it was around 3k. Still a lot but now its 9k and going up so if I wear my small timeless classic today, it will look like I accepted to pay 9k for it and thats something I don’t want to give chanel! I don’t want to give them that promotion when out and about. By wearing this bag when out and about I don’t want to signal to other people around me that it is normal to pay that money for bags that are not even worth that money and who’s quality is not as good anymore. I don’t want to feed into the legitimization of such pricing strategies. Chanel is probably hoping for all the people who bought their bags ten years ago to still wear them now, making it appear as if everybody bought their bags for 10k plus and that its totally fine to spend that kind of money on inferior quality products. Its insanity in my opinion. And lets not even talk about the amount of pictures people send me each day of their newly purchased timeless classics with flaws and peeling and chipping of paint and glazing. It just really feels like a scam at this point to buy these bags. And when it starts to feel like a scam to me, I immediately stop buying the products.

    • @Alex22.22
      @Alex22.22 Год назад

      @@SuperDacob Exactly. Even if I had "all the money that I wanted" I still wouldn't buy anything new from Chanel.
      It's just a major turn off, all of it. So many of the new designs look cheap, the quality is awful and then everything being overhyped on top of it all. I just don't want to be seen as part of that club, it makes me look stupid when I'm not. I usually don't even care what people think but it's the whole tackiness/vulgarity of it all that taints the brand and then reflects back on me. "If you know you know" and I know that my bags are hard to find preloved items of excellent quality so I don't feel bad about that but the thought of being associated with all this, that people assume my bags are fake, peeling etc, that's not the feeling I want when I'm paying for luxury!
      I will complete my (small) Chanel-collection with two more preloved items (if I can find them in great condition and not too crazy prices) then I'm out for good.

    This makes me so very sad.I am 46 years old and have only begun to be able to afford Chanel bags starting in my late 30s and early 40s. I have to be very strategic about my finances and plan way in advance to buy a classic flap. It used to be that while I would have to save for it, it was exciting and considered a treat for myself. Now it is impossible and no longer a treat - it induces so much stress. And I don't mean financial stress, I'm talking about stress just from owning it. If anything ever happens to my classic flaps, reissue, or mini, I would never be able to replace them at the prices they are now. So, this makes me very scared to use them, which defeats the purposes of owning them. I also feel like I can't wear them out with friends because they are so over price, and most of my friends can't afford them, so I don't want to make them feel a certain way... either jealous or possibly judge me for owning them! I will treasure what I have, but sadly it's not fun anymore!

    On the flipside, my pre-loved tan mini calfskin Loewe puzzle bag has gotten almost daily wear and has gone on all my trips. It's incredibly well-made and hard-wearing, and I love that low-key luxe vibe.

    A loud “YES” to not wanting to carry Chanel!! I do agree with the main comment you read out: Chanel used to be a good daily bag, elevated yes, but still wearable. It has now way surpassed the Hermes prices and even wearing a Birkin wouldn’t be considered so “loud”. The price tag now is totally unjustifiable for that type of bag (considering product cost, labour, production etc) that it has become almost a joke wearing one: you’re an idiot in the eyes of the people on the streets. this is the first time I'm getting more relaxed about wearing a superfake, snapped and got one years ago, went outside with it once and got so many stares I wasn't feeling confortable with the idea of people maybe questionning if it's fake (knowing it was fake this is how i interpreted the stares instead of people staring at it cause it's nice) even though I knew no one would be able to call me out on the spot. Never used it ever again cause it wasn't making me feel good. Now, I wouldn't have been able to afford the real deal years ago and it's getting further and further away from me owning one ever because even if I somehow make it financially I don't think I'd be ok with spending that much on a bag, first and foremost, a bag that will put me at risk of being robbed, not to mention I have a strathberry bag that I love and I don't use it either because I feel like I have to baby this bag everytime I go outside so I only take it out for weddings or fancy affairs. Point: I might use my superfake boy bag and not care at all if it scratches + people can't tell the difference especially now that the quality of the real one is going downhill + even if I ever have the money to afford a real one I won't cause it's way too much money. Way to go channel.

Compare the prices of their 200ml perfume offerings and you will be surprised. They all cost basically the same amount for each brand. Its like a mafia deciding together how to dominate the market. Not cool. Exception for Dior cuz they have the 250ml bottles for 380 euro but their next price increase is just days away so they will also equal their prices to the others. Its ridiculous.

    This is how Burberry suffered in the early 2000s. Genuine lovers of the brand’s famous plaid became too embarrassed to wear it due to the connotations of it being a favoured print - albeit often faked - of those from a lower socio-economic background. It took around 15 years to recover. People who are aware that we are entering a global, economic crisis are now feeling it’s vulgar to wear the double C logo so freely because it’s akin to hanging $8-10,000 off your shoulder when we see others are struggling. Keep hold of your goodies, Dacob, their time to shine will come again. The 60s were swinging, the 70s bleak, the 80s hedonistic, the 90s grungy, the past 20yrs have been good for many so ride it out and keep what you love to wear again. It all comes around again.

How could they possibly think this is a good strategy for them for the future? The inflation rate is not going up that fast as they are upping their prices. So at this rate their classic double flap bags will cost 20k… then 30k… I just do not see how this is in any way sustainable for them long term…

It is what it is, I can’t control it. What I do feel bad for is the individuals that have saved up for years to buy that one special Chanel from the boutique but can’t seem to keep up with the price increases. I hear you Faith 🥰💖 however, we need food to survive and we need a roof above our head to stay warm and safe. So we need to come back home at night and we need to eat. We, on the other hand, do not need luxury items. We want them, we do not need them. I personally want the luxury items I buy to have a good quality. Once these items start being manufactured with inferior quality raw items and once they start making them and not passing them through quality control and once they start selling inferior quality items for exorbitant premium prices and once these items start degrading after just one wear and once they start upping the prices of said items several times a year while not addressing the quality issues… well… then we got a problem, because I do not like to be scammed.
      I like a fair transaction. I give you my money for your highest end luxury premium product and you in return give me the highest end luxury premium product. If you give me an inferior product but charge me for a highest end luxury premium product, then we have an imbalance in the business transaction because only you seem to profit while I get a faulty product. Thats why I am done with some of these brands. They have become a scam in my opinion. 💖🧚🏻‍♂️

      @@SuperDacob Hi Dacob. I felt EVERYTHING you said! I hear you and definitely respect your feelings, and anyone else that experience these quality issues with Chanel or any brand for that matter. I have been fortunate to never have that experience with Chanel. It reminds me of car experiences. Some people swear by Tesla and Range Rover because they have never had service issues, but others trash the brands based on their personal experience with service issues. So who do you listen to when you are in the market for one of these brands? Or do you take a chance hoping that’s not your experience? I hate it for you and the others that have had issues with Chanel. In our imperfect world, we wish everything would be perfect but that’s just not reality. It would be great if the brand took notice and addressed the outrage, talk about the quality issues. But they won’t. Just like buying a new home. I don’t care if you paid $100,000 or $10,000,000, once you settle in, you will start noticing the flaws. And it’s nothing the builder can do for you at that point. It’s yours! Ultimately I hate it for you Dacob and I don’t blame you for walking away from the brand. You gotta do what’s right for you.
      On a side note, I wonder if there are people out there with Hermes bags that have quality issues or the handbag didn’t live up to the hype once they’ve acquired it? Are they afraid to talk about it because it’s Hermes? I’ve seen so many Hermes bags on the resale market and they look atrocious(terrible structure). Is that a quality issue or the previous owner(s) are at fault?
      Anyway I’m going off the deep end here Dacob. Again I love your videos and respect your point of view on luxury. You always leave me with something to think about. Just like your response above.

    I don’t feel shame about using my Chanel bags though because I don’t really care how people look at me. At the end of the day we live in a judgmental society so I wear whatever I love and I feel comfortable because whatever you do someone will judge you, criticize you, or simply have something to tell you whether it’s good or bad. If you feel that Chanel’s price is ridiculous then it’s ridiculous but don’t forget it’s worthy for someone out there. Each brand makes them unique because they specifically pick audience and target of class. If Chanel is not for middle class anymore then so be it because no one can stop the price increase anyways. Try to think…have you seen a country/state tax decrease? For me I’ve only seen increase so far😂

    • @SuperDacob
      @SuperDacob  Год назад +8

      You are right about the fact that the consumer decides whats worth it to them. But the inflation rate and taxes are by far not climbing as fast as chanel bag prices are. Depending on the country of course. But I am looking at the countries where Chanel actually decided to open their stores in. I am taking those countries as examples of inflation rates and tax brackets. Also taking those countries as average salary rates and how much they differ now from a chanel bag price as opposed to lets say 2014 or earlier. That chanel believes that the middle class is no longer needed for them to grow might be in their minds a good strategy but long term in my opinion it will prove to be detrimental to them and lets not forget that their designs are no longer desirable either. Virginie is not really killing it on the runway lately, is she? That part is also needed to feed into the dream of the brand. All aspects need to looks desirable in order for the people to actually decide to splurge on a 10k+ bag… but if the brand starts lacking in other departments, then the desirability of their peek products like bags will also fall eventually. Curious to see how all this plays out in the next few years. Don’t get me wrong, I still love my chanel bags and I still think the double C logo is one of the best logo designs out there but I just don’t like their policies right now so I do not feel comfortable wearing the logo bags at the moment. 💖

      I will not buy another Chanel bag or another SLG; I have one and each (preloved) and I'm done. The way the company is going with their higher prices and low quality, I'm lucky I achieved purse peace.✌🏻 And if I get the itch again, pre-loved or bust. 💕
      Chanel should realize customer loyalty is more important than catering to a tiny sliver of their former clientele.

    We should 'unionize' against price increases with 'strike' action;) Interesting video and funny timing. I am going to France this week and pulled out a vintage Chanel I bought 2 years ago and had restored. I love it but have worn it maybe 1 time since purchasing and have wondered why. Maybe because I feel pretentious wearing it? I think what really gets me - and going to Dacob's joke about 20 collections a year - for the prices being charged these days for a bag, I am quite literally unable to make a purchasing decision. There are simply too many options and they are all expensive to varying degrees. I feel like fast fashion has influenced the luxury sector in a big way.

    I feel the same can be said about Louis Vuitton the price on their bags are insane they are everywhere and I’m saying this as I have Louis Vuitton bags in my collection and the whole logo thing is dead as well just my opinion I now look for understated bags with good quality that’s a good price point for what you are getting

  • @CarolCreates

    I’d still use my C bags/WOCs as and when I feel to. I don’t really care about the price increases.
    Question 🙋🏾 if you decide to sell your bags because of your distaste- are u going to sell at around the price point u purchased for, or at a much elevated price ❓🤔
    If at a much elevated price, then aren’t you doing the same thing 🤷🏽‍♀️

    • @SuperDacob
      @SuperDacob  Год назад +1

      Good question. Well, it also costs money to store the bags all these years, to care for the bags and keep them pristine and the insurance for all the years you had the bags and so on… so for sure the bags I own also ended up costing me much more than what I paid for them the day I bought them in the boutique. One needs to think about that too and factor it in when pricing them later on.

      Thats another sad part to the price increases: we who have bought our bags many years ago now cannot enjoy them anymore because of exactly the reason you mention in your comment: we have no prospect of ever getting them again in cases something were to happen to them. So we just stop using them all together. Not only did Chanel manage to alienate a ton of their clients but they also made a ton of us not want to wear what we already bought from them. Some of us cuz of fear of getting mugged or of the bags getting into an accident and breaking and others because we are disgusted by the company’s greed and total lack of quality. Allegedly. Lol
