Jimmy Iovine mentioned Trent's influence on culture. He is spot on. It is not just music, Trent even had a part in the golden age of first person shooters having been part of the development of Quake. He developed the soundtrack and sound effects for the game.
I loved the fact you had the NIN logo on the nail gun ammo boxes as well in the game. The soundtrack that he created for Quake was something else. It felt like a completely integral part and suited the style, mood and atmosphere perfectly while enhancing every aspect. The first track on the game CD that kicks in when the demo starts up is so memorable.
It's interesting that Iggy Pop didn't discuss the influence of (in his case literal) industrial noise on The Stooges' sound or Trent's biggest hit, Closer, being built around a sample off of The Idiot. Instead, as someone himself influenced by blues and jazz, he discusses the influence of funk/R&B (or, more broadly, the African-American musical tradition) on NIN: something Trent always acknowledged but is usually glossed over by the music press.
The only time I saw them live was right after The Fragile came out, 1999 in Osaka. It was one of the best. They did La Mer with biological footage showing cells moving around projected on a giant muslin cloth in front of the stage, followed by The Wretched, best moment for me. They did smash a lot of keyboards towards the end. I hope you catch them live sometime soon.
I was fortunate to see Saul Williams and Nine Inch Nails at the Brixton Academy on the the 5th of July, 2005. Easily one of the best best gigs that I've ever been to. Sadly, all of that was... I don't even know the words to express how... I just don't know the words. It was two days before the London Undeground bombings. Going from such a... Fuck... Seeing the one band that makes you feel, and then two days later, such senseless loss of lives. It's not easy to put into words. Especially going through there just one day before the bombings happened.
if the man that guided you through darkness with the most self destructive music during your early years, and 30 years later he still can guide you but in a wise and peaceful way, it means that you chose to follow the right mentor.
Don't want to sound like an old fart but I'm 51 next week and still listening to NIN. NIN is my favourite band with Suicidal Tendencies in a close 2nd and Queen in 3rd. I've listened to NIN since 1991 and seen them live 3 times. The talent blows me away.
I love NIN. I still remember how they unexpectedly rushed into my life in early 2005 with an incredible live performance on a festival and stuck with me, bringing so many deep, joyful, emotional moments that I was able to stare with a good friend of mine, who is also a big fan.
I was lucky enough to see NIN in London in the "90s. I'm English but America .............. Every now and then you drop the bomb!!!!! I'm straight but love Trent! 🏴❤️😈
So Trent's been praised by the full holy trinity now. Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Lou Reed, I don't know if this has happened to any post eighties artist.
Such a quality video. I love the writing, testimonials, amazing intro by Iggy Pop. Everyone did a great job trying to put what NIN is/means into words. I could watch this for hours.
So much they skipped. The Crow, Man on Fire, The Fan, The Fragile, the Year Zero story project/concept album, the weird different presentations of each album, the 'HALOs' the backstories.
It's pretty funny to see all the comments bitching about Miley Cyrus showing up for 10 seconds like they have a deadly allergy to anything even slightly "mainstream", it's so lame, calm down. Some people truly never get over the high school clique mindset
I don't think it really matters. The importance of AIC, or any band for that matter, is already set in stone regardless of whether or not the R'N'RHOF recognizes them or not. Would you rather win an award from a handful of the higher ups in the music biz, or know that your work has inspired countless people across the globe?
Just like in Iron Maidens song `fear of the dark` it sound like Bruce sings `fear of the duck`. When people say Nine inch Nails it sounds like they say Nine inch Snails…
"There are best hits, you know. And then there's a body of work. It's a sense of a progression through the not knowing and the finding; the vulnerability of that and the triumph of it; and it's... It's rare." Most of the video feels manufactured, but then this. This video does little justice to his work, but whatever. I know that, like me, a lot of people felt that his music translated into something inteligible some hard to express feelings and that is fucking amazing. And for that, thank you.
True but thats just par for the course in music culture, even if he tried to keep to himself and let his music take the spotlight alone the fans would adore him to a creepy extent for how mysterious and quiet he is.
Things went downhill after Manson's prima donna attitude + biography. Then they came to terms for a short time (Starfuckers video + MSG gig) and again broke up. Manson's life and career gone bad to worst...
Quote from Trent last year: “I have been vocal over the years about my dislike of Manson as a person and cut ties with him nearly 25 years ago. As I said at the time, the passage from Manson’s memoir is a complete fabrication. I was infuriated and offended back when it came out and remain so today.”
I really like fan fiction, and I think Trent wouldn't mind being inducted into that hall of laugh - but an old man who can't get dressed properly posing as a punk rock icon and showing off his body while being hundred years old ?? And Hanna Montana ?? Seriously, I really hope this video is a joke.
NIN are a great band no doubt. But I don't need Miley f*cking Cyrus to tell me that! If being inducted into the R and R HOF means I need people like her approving me, I'd want to be left out. What a joke.
Honestly youre only exposing how much of a shallow hipster you are if you react like this to someone who's music you dont like enjoying someone who's music you do.
Teenage music. Rage, anger, frustration. Yes. Oh yes, we suffer so much and convey our incredible inner world through music. NIN is a corporate product. Yes, very high quality but no more. What is its message? So,Reach for the light. Do not load your mind with other people's emotions))
You don't really know what you're talking about, do you? You just make shit up and pretend it dits reality, but why?. "Teenage Music": NIN has been producing music for over 33 years. You must be an idiot to say that NIN is a corporate product because it isn't, and never was. The message clearly is that you don't have a clue what you're talking about.
When Johnny Cash and David Bowie sing your song, you know you've become legendary.
no, you may be legendary without anything or anybody, NIN is ultimate legend for sure
I love how even when hes wearing a jacket Iggy is still dedicated to his utter refusal to ever wear a shirt

Yeah pleased to hear George Clinton and Prince get named. I'd personally add the 'Belleville Three' to that pantheon of groove gods.
I have to see NIN before dying. I'm so glad Linkin Park made a cover of Wish, in that way I got into NIN
Me Too
That's cool! I need to check that out.

Absolutely Legend. This music helps to go ahead. The world he made is an another true reality.

the best show i ever saw... lights in the sky tour. What a show!
One of the strongest soundtracks of my life
Trent introduced by Iggy ! Perfection :) Plus a Houellebecq reference. My French industrial heart is beating so hard !
I was lucky enough to see NIN in London in the "90s. I'm English but America .............. Every now and then you drop the bomb!!!!! I'm straight but love Trent! 🏴❤️😈
LEGEND
"I gotta get my shit together and get going on this." this is so fucking inspiring.
I've loved Trent since 1994 as the guy I was crushing on was a huge NIN and Ministry fan! Loving How to Destroy Angels!
NIN-Brixton Academy. We Marched.
Marched there with you.
And me! Still my fave gig ever.
So Trent's been praised by the full holy trinity now. Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Lou Reed, I don't know if this has happened to any post eighties artist.
And Rubin ,Iovine and Fincher ...that's fricken the highest praise
Iggy's introduction .... Great! As Iggy himself. NiN... is pure sound of 90's...my sweetest youth.
There was and never will be another NIN...ever. Thanks Trent
3:31 Saul Williams get it, Trent was the Prince of the 90s.
really liked to see the pornography album by the cure such a big influence
I'm going with: "It's music that has to dealt with".
It's not just a track or a song you might like. Music is so much better together
9 inch nail...are amazing ....wow...
Voice , style, originality....one of the top 100 bands right now...
They make music for video games too...

iggy, the master.
When are they inducting Alice in Chains?? It's long overdue >:(

Absolutely spectacular induction...leading with Iggy Pop was 100% the right thing to do.
BEST BAND IN THE WHOLE OVER THE WORLD ! PERIOD !!
Agree ! Period !!
Nah....They're a good live act though. NIN is watered down now
Just like in Iron Maidens song `fear of the dark` it sound like Bruce sings `fear of the duck`. When people say Nine inch Nails it sounds like they say Nine inch Snails…
I am 18 years old and loving NIN
same
Why am i just found this video lol
Iggy Pop... My fucking word.
So much truth in one statement.
"There are best hits, you know. And then there's a body of work. It's a sense of a progression through the not knowing and the finding; the vulnerability of that and the triumph of it; and it's... It's rare."

I love The Fragile ❤️
Was that Maynard doing the telephone interview? 😳
the become powerhouse - but half of this because of the label he opened and businesses he did.
Reminds me of wrinkle wrinkle little star
Foundation of Closer was Prince
It’s actually Nightclubbing by Iggy Pop
What is the song from 3:51?!
I love Trent reznor
There's a woman works in a bar near me nicknamed Iggy Pop.
He's had more work than June Carter
I hurt myself today
3:50 name of the song?
"Get Down, Make Love". It's on Nine Inch Nails first record, PRETTY HATE MACHINE, as a bonus track, but it's a Queen song actually.
I hope Tom delong got there first, blink are respectively alright
His music is brilliant, but I find all the adoration of him as a person creepy and over the top.
True but thats just par for the course in music culture, even if he tried to keep to himself and let his music take the spotlight alone the fans would adore him to a creepy extent for how mysterious and quiet he is.

Talk Talk aren't rock enough
Thank god miley cirus has spoken
It's sad that Manson was not invited to this video. these two have been friends and colleagues for a long time after all.

Seen em once. ok. Downward spiral was played so often on 3JJJ everyone grew sick of it. Truth has nothing to do with it. Mike Patton is better.
