from ectosage's Space Engineers, Deep Space Exploration Mega Ship video Oct 24, 2013 so pretty early tho i got the game myself in 7 Apr, 2014 if i remember right that i had to wait cuzz pc was too potato to run it
So what you're telling me... Is that once someone adds the ability for targeting systems to track flares, we'll have a functional chaff system??? HMMMMM....
@@TheChungassSupreme Well, against turrets that target missiles, it already kinda works, the flare just has to enter the 800m range/ line-of-sight before the player or grid does
When I tested the fireworks, the turret DID target them, though it was with an interior turret and the turret was set to hostile rather than the fireworks. About the statue, when messing around with friends we found out the statue is a great kinetic penetrator. It has great performance and is really cheap compared to usual known penetrators like antennas or blast doors. Curiously while doing massive damage to grids, they did no damage to ground whatsoever, so in a way reducing unintended ground damage around a target if used.
My friends were trying it out back in the alpha. It was so broken back then. I tried hard to get into it but couldn't. I redownloaded it, around 2020 or 2021 (whenever Warfare 1 had just released) and found the game had massively improved. Now I'm addicted.
The statues remind me of the statues in "For All Mankind" for the husband and wife who made duct tape space suits to fix a melting nuclear reactor at the US moon base and died after getting back into the airlock. Their double statues like this ended up out in front of NASA Huntsville.
The flares act almost like grenades, on the space standoff scenario you can bounce them in one of the corridors and theyll wreck anyone. Also the knockback of the flares/fireworks is really fun to mess around with in space (fling a warhead on a timer?).
I played the game way back in alpha. I was going on and on at work about my love for building space ships with Lego as a kid. I was collecting space ship blueprint books (my favorite being the 1991 Star Trek Technical Manual) and wanted a game that allowed for me to build such things. My friend suggested SE, watched the trailer, and I was hooked. He said he already bought me the game and we played for hours. The community, the devs, and the fun of the game have been so awesome all these years later. Still working on my U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-D with Star Trek mods based on the book! It's gotten me into model making and crafting again and I couldn't be happier.
I’ve been playing se since 2017. For roughly 4 years it was my most played game by 500 hours (I had ~5000 hours in it by the end of that time), but my now most played game has superseded it by 1000 hours (I have ~7100 in se and ~8600 in the other one). Not that that difference of playtime really matters when 3rd place is 6500 hours behind SE. I still play SE a lot to this day, and as one of my first steam games, it holds a special place in my heart. Great video! Happy 10 years!
they just added planets to the game when I finally decided to buy it. You only had the yellow ship starting in space, and asteroids were the only resource you could mine. I don't recall if hydrogen thrusters were in the game yet, Ions would allow you to fly around on planets .
I feel like for the fireworks launcher against ships, you could bump enemies to maybe mess with their aim ever so slightly. And if you're a bit deranged (like me), you could probably put a few in the back of your ship and shoot inwards for a lil extra momentum maybe
I first saw this game 9 years ago from Nerd3's Early Plays video and the Permadeath series he did later, the Early Plays get me interested but it was really the Permadeath series that sealed it for me, just all that potential for destruction and tension sold it to me and I've been playing it basically none stop since then.
I've been thinking the fireworks would be good to provide both lighting and confusion during enemy air raids? So if you were playing PvP and your base was attacked by enemy ships you could turn on your firework launchers to A. Make the enemy easier to see at night, B. Make it harder for your enemy to see regardless of time of day, and C. Batter around your enemy making it harder for them to line up attack runs
I've been messing with the fireworks for you! I found out that fireworks can't hurt other fireworks launcher blocks, knowing this and thier recoil, I made a 3x3 grid, turns out when facing eachother they can propel the craft in the way the launchers are facing, while making a large mess and a mini sun that tricks the camera and makes it look night during day. Then I made a 3x1 and added wheels instead of blocks on the corners with a battery in the middle and launches on the outer middle, and right corners and frictionless wheels on the left corners, stand this upright and you can make on of those dam buster barrel things, add a rotor in the middle and add/reverse directing and add extra fireworks facing the outside and it's a spectacle. That got me thinking though of making a warhead like this, in theory by adding so may of these you can make an anti gravity bomb that also lags and possibly kicks anyone CLOSE to it, not simply looking at it making it a good possible warhead choice, or even putting one in your base in the halls, kicking anyone that gets 3LG blocks close to it! And seeing how (for now) that flares/fireworks one hit players, making a 3x1 and adding fireworks facing away rather then a tire could essentially make a mine/warhead that fires 'shrapnel' like irl granaids and mines. My experimentations are proving so many ways to use these things!!!
I fist discovered the game through the Yogs cast as well! I majorly wanted to start playing the game thanks to LastStandGamer's survival series ages ago. I got the game but was unfortunately unable to play it due to my PC being terrible. I got back into the game sometime in 2019 and have played off and on since. I hope the new skins will last until Friday when I can buy them. Lastly, that scene with the fireworks shooting up at the Apollo has given me ideas for effects I could do were I to ever film and release a cinematic. While I wouldn't use them for explosions, I would use them for chemicals and stuff, just really pretty!
I saw it first as a recommendation from steam where it was still an early access and you only could play in space. The Planets where added like a year later^^
Sense they bounce can you get alot of people or a single person firing constantly into a tube to bounce concentrate them enough into basically a plasma lance.
The ghost skin is the best thing in the update. It was literally the only skin i was missing and my collection is finally finished lol. That said the firework launchers are also fun and me and a buddy have been revamping our "party noodle" clang omatic nussance devices with them.
i played the game even before there where planets, on a laptop barely capable of handling larger grids, how i ended up in it i can't remember but hell it was fun, even when sometimes going to 2 fps or sometimes even 2-5 spf, when going planetside. thank goodness that i did upgrade back then
I've been playing this game since back when beacons were added, 3 months after the initial launch into early access. Scott Manley is where I saw first.
My first experience with it was getting bullied into trying the game back in late 2017 because it was on sale. One thing lead to another, and my friend dropped an entire base on my head when he cut the single support strut by accident. 2,650 hours later, I am the guy who bullies their friends into getting the game, but I at least have a bit of experience to keep them from having as hard a time learning the game as I did.
I had that ghost skin for ages but i dindt why most people didnt have it. On most servers, they think that i was a admin because my skin was glowing. But thx to this vidio i now know when i got it. And the how was with the cargo drop ships from the game that gave you random skins.
My first experience hearing about Space engineers was when I randomly stumbled upon SovietWombles Random Space Engineers Bullshittery series a couple years ago.
We really need a gun that does next to no damage to blocks for when there's boarding action but works fine on players, well my prayers have been answered - enter the flare gun
I think the first time I saw the game was three youtubers (Camodo gaming, Spycakes, Beautiful O.B.) Playing against each other. Then I saw Z1 Gaming play it with my dad and we both liked it. Then about a month later, My dad showed me Splisie, (a space engineer youtuber) I earned the money to buy the game and started playing it. I think it was right after the warfare II dlc. (might be wrong)
“This is the only skin that glows” Fiber Suit has left the chat. (If color saturation is all the way up, it looks like something from tron in the dark)
I first discover space engineers back in two thousand and fifteen by a random channel recommendation of youtube, since then i felt in love with the game but not being able to play it even today, too expansive to aford a gaming computer on my country :(
I saw a friend playing Space Engineers last year and i bought it to play with him and convinced another friend to play too. They both quit after a week and i now have 450 hours on it lol
I've been playing SE for just under a year. The game isn't without its problems, but it is still an amazing game nonetheless. You can build so many amazing things!
I think the flare gun is most likely going to have to be reworked to make it function more like it's intended to. However, I think it's a good opportunity to pressure queen into making more unique fun weapons. So the way the flare currently functions could be reworked into a fully fledged weapon in the form of a ricochet grenade launcher, maybe with more expensive ammo. These more unique options based the unique physics are on of the things lacking from SE.
Are you using any mods to change the light/brightness for your game? Im on Earth and the day ist way too bright, feels like staring at the sun. The nights are not dark at all.

Fun fact: Flare ammo can be fired from the firework launcher
Lol, that's funny.
Just not in creative mode, as the infinite ammo thing defaults to rainbow firework boxes.

Need to do a parachute flare ammo so you can use them as lights. Also hopefully some MOD can make them last longer.
