- I took to r/gamecollecting on Reddit to ask for hot takes in the realm of retro gaming, and video game collecting. We has some interesting responses, talking about repro games, fake cases, pokemon collections, and so much more that I react to and talk about. What’s your game collecting hot take?
Csgo takes more skill then a call of duty because its like the riches escape from reality as they only play the one their not getting smashed in
I understand "game collecting" but if you aren't playing/haven't played it you might as well just have a customized coaster.
I miss old hot topic. back in 2006. When things were more simple, and more myspace. RIP Mitch
Up until like 4 years ago I only got my jeans from hot topic. The end of an era
I gotta disagree with the last one. Digital storefronts(especially companies like EA) believe buying does not equate to owning. Until we can get these companies to wise up and allow ownership, a digital collection just can't equate to a physical one.
That’s a great point, didn’t quite think of it in that way!
@@JohnGamesOfficial I definitely want digital collections to be of the same caliber, and it's really not the fault of the collectors, but damn, triple A companies are greedy.
I emulate 90% of games i play. I own a few gems but my collection is small, ones i do own are very special to me. Taking Chrono Trigger out of its box and setting up the SNES isnt exactly complicated (actually i dont even own an SNES), but i still prefer gaming on a cheap handheld device. If my entire collection was lost in a fire id be sad, but it wouldn't effect how i play games very much.
Some people take vacations to golf, others spend a lot hunting, i splurge on 30 year old video games i grew up with. What i love most about retro games is almost ANY game can be played for very cheap. I probably spend more than most would on certain games but those are for me. The thought of telling someone else the 'right' way to enjoy a hobby is silly.
Your collection of 30 Xbox 360 games isn't any less valid of a collection than someone else's 750 sealed Nintendo Switch games
Absolutely!
Oh god, the Switch case spines are one of the worst ideas Nintendo has ever had. Absolutely ZERO personality and individualism to them. Super unfortunate to have than for such a great console.
Big RUclipsrs who cover "hidden gems" are direct market manipulators. Example; Nitrorad's affect on Plok's price.
Interesting, do you think it’s purposeful or something that just happens?
Eventually retro cartridges and hardware will fail and for every year that passes it will become a bigger problem, learning to dump and backup your games will and is important.
I disagree and think repros are always valid for games you can no longer buy from the creator. Buying an official pokemon cart second-hand for a ridiculous price doesnt benefit anyone who created nor owns the rights to that game so I dont have any issue buying a cheap repro online for a reasonable price.
This is a great point!
Agree. If something is "fake" But cheap and looks good, it really shouldn't matter
modern systems that play old school games , like retron, are better than the original system. having a machine that plays nes snes and famicon games that also has hdmi is a godsend
This is a good one, I personally like playing on OG systems but just as a personal preference but def understand what you’re saying - and the nes snes mashup consoles for hdmi are indeed the best thing since sliced bread
