"Piracy is a service problem." Is one of the greatest takes of all time by Gabe Newell and is 100% the problem with Nintendo these days. They put more effort into shutting down any kinds of attempts to run their old games........ instead of SELLING their old games, and when they do sell their old games, they are inferior to emulated versions on PC. If you want to eliminate piracy, you have to offer services that make piracy and emulation less relevant to people. Understanding this concept is the reason why Steam is the most successful gaming marketplace in the world.
This. If you make the best version of a game or create a place to supply your entire library of games, then people wouldn't resort to piracy or emulation. But Nintendo is still stuck in the headassery mindset they've always been in, not trying to provide the definitive service and way to play their games. Steam doesn't ever have the problem and a lot of publishers and developers have their games on Steam as a result.
I think a good solution for that would be something like this. Nintendo releases the Switch and something similar to the Switch but to run specifically Wii, Wii U and GC games for example. It shouldn't be that hard. All they need is a nice upscale though. Just create less units since the demand is less. Also, depending on fan demand, they should try to resell some of the games as well on digital storefronts which they already do on PC (example: Bloodrayne 1 and 2).
This is so relevant, they sold some of their old games on the Wii, then not only could you not transfer the game to the Wii U, but had to buy them AGAIN, because it was a different console, but hey, they discounted it by a couple bucks at least right? The cease and desist letter might very well not have merit. To my understanding, Slippi works around copywrite issues similarly to how PokeMMO does it (by providing software FREE of any intellectual property, and having the user provide the Intellectual property through, for instances, ROMS). Now it is true that many users will get the ROMs/other software illegally, but that's an issue between Nintendo and those individual users, and NOT the organizers of the event. Though even though the cease and desist letter might not have legal merit, it doesn't stop Nintendo from using it to pressure event organizers to drop their events out of fear.
they better not be surprised when everyone stops making fanmade projects like this, no other company gets this sort of idolization and they just don't care.
Nintendo would be happy if people stopped making fan games. I think we should make more fan games, even shitty games like those old newgrounds flash games where you shoot pikachu.
They won’t care if people stop making fan games. What people have to do is hurt Nintendo’s wallet, and the only way to do that is to get yourself and your friends to stop buying Nintendo products

Nintendo seems to be a bit more lax regarding properties with spotty English releases. Fire Emblem is another series that's anomalous in this regard-- its fangames and hacks are also practically untouched despite the series having a hackbase that's even more developed than Pokemon's. If I had to take a guess as to why these two fandoms are mostly unscathed, it might be because the centerpoints of both fanbases are centered around fan translation (and thus, ROM hacking, which naturally leads to fangames.) Hacking is so ubiquitous in both fandoms that I wouldn't doubt that at least a quarter of each series' fanbase probably has at few fan-translated ROMs saved on their computer. Basically, they're in a precarious area where trying to take down fan translations, hacks, etc. of these series could cause a large enough part of the fanbase to riot to actually be dangerous to their profits. It'd be like if Bethesda suddenly tried to shut down all Skyrim mods.

Im watching the video on my Wii U while on my phone to this video looking at the comments. Also yes i support the Wii U and always will be a fan of this (SO CALL) overrated consoles.
I said this on Charlie's video and I'll say this again; Nintendo enables people to abuse the DMCA system to harass artists who draw fan art of their intellectual property with complete disregard to fair use policies, sometimes ruining their livelihood by getting them banned from platforms that are their sources of income. If your favorite artist has drawn a Nintendo character, a single hater can cancel them and nintendo will 100% side with the claimant (and this has nothing to do with whether it's sfw or nsfw art, though the latter is more commonly DMCA'd).
@Starjun A triple assumption (and three errors) in a 2 line comment and totally missing the point; if it's going to be like this, keep your comments to yourself until you have the talent to make a proper argument. That said I agree with you that there's lots of Nintendo p*rn out there, but that's a strawman fallacy, it also has nothing to do with talent, some of the best cartoon animators in America and Japan have made Nintendo fanart at one point, none of that addresses the real problem, the real issue is that haters report anything Nintendo related to harass artists and despite the content being fair use and Nintendo allegedly being ok with fan art (read their policy) they still refuse to drop the claims made by fake Nintendo "representatives". Nintendo encouraged themselves the creation of fan art and built the fan art community since the nineties, there used to be official fanart competitions, if you were there you surely remember because every single kid wanted to participate, even Mario paint was a thing, that's one of the many communities Nintendo themselves built, but now they have given it the back and they allow DMCA trolls to hurt the artists.
Look at what they did with that "Limited Run" Mario 3D All-Stars. That's the entire reason why they did it. Nintendo wants to keep a stranglehold on as many of their products as inhumanly possible to try and pull a Disney when and where possible. Stave people for content/products to drive demand sky-high so they can drive sales. As it stands, I cut off nintendo from my money after they shut down those Switch hackers.

Nintendo isn't making money from these old properties in most circumstances. If they were smart they would modernize the old graphics (better frame rates and adjustments etc.) And release them on a modern platform to capture both new players and capitalize on the nostalgia of the older players simultaneously. Also, I enjoy the switch. But most fans that I know really just want a solid non mobile console akin to what the Gamecube or N64 was. Something that would truly allow them to compete with Sony's Playstation or Microsoft's Xbox. Because most people who grew up playing these older properties are working adults now. That can usually can only catch a few games of something before or after they get off work. Just my take. What they've been doing is truly sad and not a good set of operating business principles.
Don't forget that after 3 years all of the games and the Switch itself is still full price, when after a year Playstation and Xbox games are more than half off when sales come around and the consoles themselves are clearly made of much cheaper and poorer quality material compared to their competitors. Both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are much more powerful and better quality than the switch yet nowadays you can get either one for nearly half the price of a Switch.
That's the advantage of having an actually unique product, tbf. There's no competition for the Nintendo switch, because the switch is the only real comsole that let's you play pprtable and docked. It also has the advantage that it has all time greats, like BOTW (goty, iirc) and mario odyssey.
It’s because Nintendo basically has a monopoly on their most popular franchises. For Xbox Halo is also on pc now and the latest one is likely going to be released on pc as well. And for PlayStation they didn’t have that popular of console exclusives in the first place, but everyone wants to play the latest Mario and legend of Zelda with the only way to play them being to get the new console, so they can keep the price high because there is no other way to play the new games without sailing the high seas.

Despite the fact that people also make Sonic.exe games NOT created by sega was really a hit. Sega also was proud of the fact that those games even exist and did not care if they use something from their products and franchises.

@Starjun be right back googling "how to delete someone's internet access"

Dude, Nintendo is a saint compared to Disney. Disney literally just stopped paying royalties to the Star Wars and Aliens novelization author when they acquired Lucas and Fox as their most recent scumbagginess.
Its likely Nintendo will backtack and not make Mario 3D All-Stars a limited run.
I'm loving these 10/10 quality Thumbnails
You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.
Not really. Nintendo has always (since 2010 at least) been shitty when it came to fan content. They also still make really good games, so I think they're just the same as always, which is bad, because the world isn't the same anymore.
Sega died a hero, Nintendo lived
Nintendo's been really shitty business wise for a long time. I think a lot of us were just too young to understand or didn't have the internet to highlight their bs
"Its okay when Nintendo does it"
I love Nintendo, but dang it man, they need to be put in their place! Too many stupid moves.
Reminder for things Nintendo did to the smash community:
2010: MLG was hosting Brawl events but Nintendo hindered the streams/video recording which affected the growth of the Brawl community
2013: Nintendo tried to stop the EVO stream for melee after they raised around 10,000 dollars for breast cancer research
2015: Nintendo MCN
2020: Nintendo trying to take down The Big House
Damn, Nintendo's evil for that 2013 one. $10,000 for BREAST CANCER research? Nintendo's never getting another penny from me.

I’m probably the last wii u owner and tbh i forget i even own the damn thing lol
I am the 9th/15th owner of a Wii U
I am the 2nd/15 owner of Wii’s it’s something else
Don't forget that after 3 years all of the games and the Switch itself is still full price, when after a year Playstation and Xbox games are more than half off when sales come around and the consoles themselves are clearly made of much cheaper and poorer quality material compared to their competitors. Both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One are much more powerful and better quality than the switch yet nowadays you can get either one for nearly half the price of a Switch.
Nintendo are rip off merchants
@@braydentobin5150 That and the fact that almost all their consoles are based on gimmicks that you just can't get anywhere else.
@@braydentobin5150 ok but what about spiderman, demon souls, uncharted, God of war? saying playstation doesn't have any popular exclusives is sorta dumb tho.

This literally the exact same thing that happened with Emuparadise and a few other rom sites. It's now harder to get old game roms for emulating. There was literally no reason for them to do it.
It’s not fair
The argument against emulating retro games is faulty at best man. Sure it is "piracy", but the situation is more nuanced as there are a finite number of copies in the world for a lot of these games and the piracy doesn't "hurt the creator" as I'd bet dollars to donuts that Nintendo never sees a dime of the $100 I spent in 2020 on a copy of Megaman Battle Network 6 for the GBA (a game that hasn't been on store shelves since like 2006).

As a Nintendo fan, seeing them do things like this just breaks my heart.
I totally agree! They know how to make games, but not how to -ethically- run a company.
"Nintendo hates its fans" What else is new?
They used to be better
They just want our money
on the topic of fan games, Sega has a great track record when it comes to those, that they LITERALLY allowed one to release as an official Sonic game. Sega saw the potential, and was like "hell yeah, we can make money off that" AND IT WORKED. Sonic Mania was a hit.
Despite the fact that people also make Sonic.exe games NOT created by sega was really a hit.
Sega also was proud of the fact that those games even exist and did not care if they use something from their products and franchises. Sega just gives them the support which means they care about their fans.
They never copyright nobody unless people try to say that they were the creator of sonic then thats a copyright. But for nintendo or should i say (*nintardos*) they just do crap like this just to raise money 💰
This is why nintendo needs to just be shut down cuz this is getting out of hand. Sega needs to just go back on committing war against nintendo instead of just letting nintendo controll them.
@@jonathanwade3882 I disagree with both the "Nintardos" word, and the statement that Nintendo should be shut down. However I think Nintendo should more open to fan games, because if people aren't making fan games, they'll make games that are "Like X." Whereas People will straight up make Sonic Fan games, or even remakes, though the one that comes to mind was the Spyro game remade in Unreal that got asked to remove due to Reignighted being secretly worked on, but that's beside the point. Fan games are essential to keeping interest in a franchise. That and Rom Hacks, like the literal THOUSANDS of Pokémon hacks that are (imo) better than Sword and Shield (that was a mess of a announcement, and launch)
@@Shaunfungames true.
I mean despite hacks, there are alot of fan made hacks of New Super Mario Bros games.
Like Beyond new super mario bros DS
Newer super mario bros wii
New super mario bros 3
And Deserted new super mario bros U
Those hacks are getting too out of hand but are hella fun at the same time
@@jonathanwade3882 I think rom hacks are just fine. technically they're just modifying the game to have diffferent play styles than what was originally in, however, I think as long as people know it's a rom hack, or there's a disclaimer at the begining saying "this is a fan game, buy the original shit from X company" then I think it should be welcomed
@@Shaunfungames Oh great.
