      We're going to make a long form video for the 12 soon and we'll move down to X~11. The method is practically identical other than the fact that for iPhone X ~ 11, the bezel does need to be separated as it does wrap slightly around the glass.
      what you can do once the display is removed from the phone is to submerge it in 99% isopropyl alcohol for minimum 30 minutes (you can do it for longer without issues as long as the display is the OLED display which the original display is. High end aftermarket displays are also OLED. I have left displays submerged for up to 48 hours)
      You can tape the opening of the plastic tray our kit ships in to be able to use the tray as a small container for isopropyl alcohol if you need. This is shown in our latest shorts video for Pixel phones on our channel.
      At that point, the bezel can be removed rather easily with OCA blade by sliding it in from the back side of the display. The other sides are more forgiving but when it comes to the bottom side, you do want to ensure all of the adhesive has been sliced before attempting to pull the bezel away as there is a sensitive flex cable for the display that is attached to the bezel.
      If the adhesive isn't completely sliced, attempting to remove the bezel can damage the bottom flex cable.
      If the display isn't OLED, you'd need to resort to heat only to soften the adhesive. (You can do the above with heat as well to make things even easier)
      Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the clear video. I went to a store to fix my 11 pro max with the same technique to replace glass only, it's all good but swiping down in the upper right corner for control center doesn't always work or work after several attempts. Do I need to go back or this is normal?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  9 месяцев назад

      This is not normal. They might not have let the glue spread on its own as shown in the video and you have more glue than you should on that one corner. It's very possible they used too much glue too. Ask them if they had/have any leftover. 11 Pro Max only uses 2.3mL. Look very closely along the edges and see if you see one corner sticking above the frame.
      Alternatively they used a conductive cleaner and the back of the display was not cleaned thoroughly after the repair.

    Great video! When are you releasing the video for the back glass removing hack?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  10 месяцев назад +1

      I've been meaning to make a video for it for a long time now but it keeps getting put on the back burner. I've actually revealed the method in the comments section.
      I personally find the process to be very tedious. There's quite a bit of scraping and cleaning with a pry tool. It is not a task I personally find to be enjoyable, similar to the cleaning step for the front glass replacement but worse. It's also not a delicate process like the front glass replacement and the glass does go all over the place.
      I did mention that I will make the video for it and I will upload it. Hopefully sooner rather than later!

    • @ecdiy

      They do work. I would just be super careful not to get carried away because the range of motion on those tools are often enough to cause the flex cable to tear.

    DO NOT REPEAT THE SAME Mistake that I MADE.
    My 1st Experience with the Glass Repair Kit and Learnings from the experience.
    - Follow the instructions and have one friend help you out, just if you miss any steps.
    - I ordered Y#000 Precision Screwdriver and a Pentalobe screwdriver (iPhone repair kit) from amazon because the screwdriver included in the kit were not hard enough to unscrew.
    - I made a huge mistake of peeling the wrong side of the glass and placed it on the screen. Shiney reflective side is the side that goes on top of the screen after you put the glue. Black side on the display stays up -facing you.
    - Keep one small strong magnet on the desk, so that you don't lose any screws like I lost one on the carpet.
    - Make sure to put the speaker grill back (earpiece) prior to fixing the display.
    Overall, I had so much fun doing this. Thank you @ECDiy for providing prompt support after my mess-up. Looking forward to fixing my mistake soon.

      Thank you so much for sharing your experience and thank you so much for your kind words. Happy to hear it was a fun project for you.
      The only thing I do want to mention is that the screws are ever so slightly different from one another, so it is best to set them aside in the orientation you remove them as mentioned @2:10 putting it on a magnet could get them all mixed up.
      You are right though, having a helper for even just 10 minutes to hold the hair dryer/heat gun above to keep the temperature consistent will make this process go much faster and smoother.
      In case anyone is wondering, the shiny coating referred in the comment above is shown @5:44
      I am looking into the screwdriver issue. We have sourced a different set to send out should anyone else happen to experience the same issue. In the past, the only issue with driver we experienced was it being stripped due to clogged screw head which toothbrush dipped in isopropyl alcohol clean well.
      Thank you once again for sharing your experience and helping others learn from your mistake! Greatly appreciated and I'm sure you've just prevented someone else from making the same mistake!

    When doing the repair should my fingers (when slicing with the wire) be touching the table surface. Should they be THAT low or is being that low too low.

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  2 месяца назад

      Great question!
      Yes, they should be that low. The idea is so that the wire held tight and low so that it is gliding on/touching the glass when it approaches the corners so it can't possibly go deeper into the display.

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  9 месяцев назад

      So you are referring to the OCA film, which is used by others as well as the factory.
      The one we use is liquid based. The difference is that when you use the liquid adhesive, you do want to be present in case you see it spreading to one side more than the other.
      However, with the OCA film installation with the laminator, positive pressure & negative pressure chamber, it's more or less a set it and forget it. It's also easier to do multiple devices at once using the machines which is why it is preferred by the shops.

      Not a problem at all! While we're on this topic, please note that there are a lot of RUclipsrs who demonstrate the clean-up using N-Hexane without any special precautions, but I do not recommend N-Hexane at all. That chemical is actually banned by FoxConn due to its neurotoxicity. Several cases of death have been linked to usage of N-hexane.
      It's a bit concerning as some get sold just as "glue remover."

      Alcohol can damage the microphones and sensors, there's no need to risk it. Heat alone set at 90C on a digital heat plate for 5 minutes is plenty to make it easier to disassemble. Been doing this for over 20 years, and I've seen the mess some people make with alcohol.

    Does there be any bubbles after applying the LOCA? And would any LOCA do the same job?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  9 месяцев назад

      I have also uploaded a close-up video, there isn't any bubble after the LOCA process. By lowering the glass slowly, keeping a close eye on how the glue contacts the glass, you can avoid bubbles in most cases.
      Even if you do get stuck with one though, you can squeeze it out as demonstrated in this video.
      Other LOCAs do work, but may not spread on its own like shown here and may not cure with a weak UV light/sunlight as shown here. Our LOCA is something that is specially formulated just for us as DIY application for screen repairs like this is quite unique.

    what if there becomes dust trapped between the display and glass like when you are applying a screen protector?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  9 месяцев назад

      With the liquid glue application shown in the video, it is much more forgiving.
      Solid impurities/debris may be visible after the repair but dust and lint-like impurities will get saturated by the glue and become very hard to see, practically invisible by naked eye even at close inspection. However, I recommend the screen be free of all debris prior to installation.
      Screen protector application relies on a silicone based, film/pad adhesive which forms a bubble around all impurities no matter the type/size.

    Please! Why the screen’s refurbisher says they keep the heat on while separating the glass on the heat plate? They have it on 100 degrees Celsius? And have it on for few minutes and screen works enter testing! Can you explain that please ?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  8 месяцев назад +1

      100 degrees Celsiusc is indeed the upper limit. Anything above it for more than a few seconds, you can start to damage the OLED. Some heat does get lost through the glass so setting the heat plate to 100'C does have some buffer. Many also use a silicone pad to improve suction when working with cracked screens which further lowers the actual temperature that reaches the OLED layer.
      Personally though, if I were to use a heat plate as a first timer, I'd set it at 90/95'C due to potential for error in calibration (unless you can verify it with an accurate laser temperature gauge).
      Hotter the screen gets heated, the softer the glue gets, that is for sure but due to the potential for user error when applying heat directly on the back, I suggest a slightly lower temperature range.
      Great question though! Any further questions/concerns, please do not hesitate to comment further.

      Thank you for your suggestion! Are you referring to the soldering? Or ensuring that the digitizer is not cut?
      As long as the wire is held tightly and low so the wire is rubbing against the glass layer as demonstrated and mentioned in the video, it shouldn't be able to penetrate the digitizer layer, especially considering that the bezel is thicker than the display layer. This is particularly true when the glue layer is softened with heat.

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  Месяц назад

      Unless something changed recently, replacing the screen as a whole, even with a genuine Apple display off of another phone does disable auto brightness as well as "True Tone"
      Replacing the glass only is the only way to avoid error messages & loss of original display functions without getting into micro-soldering the IC sensor over which in my opinion, is more technical than the glass only replacement.

Ours is specially formulated to be hypersensitive to UV, so much so that exposure to daylight on a cloudy winter day is enough to cure the glue. Other parameters such as contractility, tensile strength and viscosity have all been fine tuned over the years for optimum results.
      Please note there are a few sellers infringing on our trademark, Stronghold LOCA is developed by us and is exclusive to us.

    This applies to iphone 15?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  Месяц назад

      Yes it does, and I'll be uploading a video on it soon. iPhone 15 series does have a thinner display holder bezel (part directly attached underneath the glass along the parameter of the display) but as long as you apply the same steps shown in the video, the display should come up without damage.
      Other than the bezel, there really isn't any difference in the process.

    Can i use ethanol 96% instead of isopropyl alcohol, i live in 3rd world country, i can’t find isopropyl…

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  9 месяцев назад +1

      You can use lower percentage alcohol, but just remember that the other 4% in your case is water which may conduct electricity.
      You'd want to avoid accidentally powering on the device at all cost until all of the alcohol is completely evaporated.

      @@ecdiy im wondering can 96% alcohol dissolve oca glue, can i clean the display with it after removing the glass.
      Also my kit arrived today, is there any other step by step tutorial for iphone 12?

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  9 месяцев назад

      @@Professor4all99 Yes, 96% isopropyl alcohol will be able to clean the glue. As for the iPhone 12 tutorial, the process is identical to the process shown here except you'd want to start the glass removal process from the bottom as the ear speaker grill will catch the wire. This is also noted on our "latest tips & tricks page" the address to which we print on the slip placed on the top of the plastic tray our kit ships in.

    Would 70% isopropyl alcohol be fine for these repairs ? That’s all I have. Let me know!

    • @ecdiy
      @ecdiy  2 месяца назад

      70% is ok for if and only if you can be certain that you won't be accidentally turning the device on before the isopropyl alcohol has fully evaporated. This is because 70% isopropyl alcohol is 30% water.
      This is another great question by the way.

      Unfortunately no, it is not something we can ship due to the flammable nature of the 99% isopropyl alcohol. However, it can be sourced easily at a local pharmacy and stores like Walmart.

    I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max with a small dent on the corner and the glass is cracked but display is fine. The only place I’m finding the replacement screen is $350 and the local repair man is charging that price to replace the whole screen. I’d buy your kit to do this myself BUT you offered a free repair, so here I am 😅 The story behind this is I do security at a Walmart store and was chasing a guy who left the store stealing over $1,000 worth of their monitors and PC towers. He got to his car by the time I got there and sped off. I happened to drop my phone while chasing him and it cracked upon impact.

      I would say you are missing out. I began with Samsung phones just because they were what I was the most familiar with, turned out to be a big mistake.
      No debating that Google phones are the easiest to open up but between Samsung vs Apple, Apple is a lot easier to work with and it is more profitable. When it comes to screen refurbishment anyhow.
