I recently had a spiced rum flight at Forbidden Island (Alameda) and thought the Chairman's and Don Q were pretty good. I felt the Don Q had only subtle notes (which was better than most spiced rums that are vanilla bombs) and that Chairman's had some great orange notes.
Both are great options, aren’t they?! And like many rooms out there, they have a place in the rum world. If I wanna be super lazy with a rum old-fashioned, I’ll use the chairman’s add a couple dashes of bitters ice and then an orange peel and call it a day!
Since Rum is the world‘s, most diverse spirit, you can’t talk about the category without talking about spiced rum. Also, these aren’t the only for spiced rums! There are many solid ones out there as well 🙌🏼
I have to be a man of many formats! These longer form videos, definitely need a little bit more subtlety for sure. Less screaming as you have said in the past 😉
This is a great series. More people should learn about all the options Rum provides them. The amount of captain found on shelves is truly sad. There's no rum for some of the really quality brands. Then, the rest of the shelf is clogged up with Malibu and its variants.
And that’s I think the biggest frustration for a lot of rum lovers out there. Shelf space at liquor stores and bars are dominated by these very large and successful brands that also perpetuate the thought that rum is overly sweet.
Never had a spiced rum since I'm sipping it. When I was young, I was only getting rum and coke with unaged Pampero. I'm not a lover of sweet tastes so I guess spiced rums never gonna be my thing. But the video is cool
Stay tuned! I am covering all of it! It’s the same with me. I have tasted over 1500 runs now and never reach for a spiced rum to sip. I’ve never gotten to try any unaged Pampero! It’s just not available here in LA. For me now, I usually lean towards higher proof rums and like sipping them neat.
@@therumchampion well, Pampero white was the only decent thing they could come up with in clubs (if, like me, you weren't into uber sweet stuff). You don't miss anything remarkable. I think i tasted, approx, 2% of the rums you did:D I'm liking alot the caribbean type of rums (molasses ones). I just opened the Hampden G. H. 2024 and I ejoyed it alot. I'm about to order a Caroni (17yo) cause I found a decent price on that app you suggested in one of your videos (RumX) and, so far, my most expensive rum I have is a Foursquare Racounteur. The ones i bought and i liked most are the Hampden 2024, the Unhiq XO and the Habitation Velier Worthy Park 2007. Can't wait for your next videos to be online

Really enjoyed this segment. Can’t wait for the next one. Good stuff.
Thank you so much for tuning in! Let me know if there’s other types of content that you’d like to see on the page
I do love a spiced rum and Come sometimes so it’s good to see other options that aren’t those standards on the shelf.

I like this new, more mellow Rum Champion 😀

Enjoyed the Chairman Reserve Spiced Rum. Good transition/entry rum imo
I could not agree more! Chairman‘s reserve spiced is a wonderful entry point for sure
