- Cryptopsy would like to announce that the pre-sales for their new album entitled CRYPTOPSY will begin on Friday July 13th; and will only be available via their new website www.Cryptopsy.ca.
Here is a medley of parts and sections from the upcoming Cryptopsy album. They have been pieced together with visuals from our forthcoming "The Making Of CRYPTOPSY" documentary which will be released with the new album.
Jon Levasseur's return is the best thing happen to this band, I always love the way he plays, technical while exciting and emotional. And he does play a Strat! I've been right!
I love that the vocalist is holding up a lyric sheet at 0:23
having john back made the whole difference. i missed him a lot
It doesn't sound particularly like BMF or NSV, but it DOES sound very much like WS, ATYB, and OWN - albums which also make up a large portion of Cryptopsy's identity. This is Cryptopsy through and through.
Sounds like a whisper supremacy!!!
I believe in cryptopsy again!!!
Because he's in the studio. You'd be surprised how many vocalists read their lyrics when recording them.
This is the Cryptopsy we knew and fell in love with!
This is the Cryptopsy I have missed for so long.
Damn this guys are truly the most amazing collective of musicians on the face of the earth...to actually write this stuff and be soo fuckin tight with all the speed changes is just incredible
Grindcore to the MAX!!
Know it? Yet so many of us enjoy the DiSalvo albums just as much!
Actually, the guitar itself doesn't matter. Its the electronics that do all the job. All you need is a good humbucker pick up at bridge position to get a loud, fat distorted sound. Looks like an active EMG85 , but I could be mistaken.
Completely agree with you. If I could give this more thumbs up, I would.
Proof cryptopsy is back! ( even though i loved the unspoken king) but the fact jon is back says a lot. Hoping to hear that soon cryptopsy ruuuuuuuleeeeeees!
Thank you, sir.
This sounds fucking brutal! bring it on!
It's gonna fucking destroy. I've listened to this trailer on loop for the past hour.
i think i'm one of the few people who enjoyed unspoken king , but i have to say, this new stuff looks absolutely awesome! i think i will not miss unspoken
It's like Whisper Supramacy played with The Unspoken King sound. Cool.
Man I wish you guys would release the Making of Cryptopsy video already. 4 years later and I still love listening to it! Definitely rekindled my love for your music and it'd be awesome to see the behind the scenes from it, especially the parts with Jon
Yeah, right after I posted this comment, I was noticing a lot of complaints about their production, but I think it's amazing, you can hear everything now. I guess the point is just that people will always complain, no matter how good something will be.
This is all pretty fucking badass. Definitely sounds like Cryptopsy.
Imagine if Jon and Pat from CC made an album together. It would be some of the most technical music ever composed. Kids would be auditioning to music schools with it lol like Frank Zappa's Black Page drum solo.
THIS is it! THIS is the progression I was hoping for after And Then You'll Beg, before Jon announced his departure. From Blasphemy through ATYB, Cryptopsy's music had a consistent progression of getting more technical and intense. It was no coincidence or surprise that when Jon left, so did that progression. Rather, the next 2 albums after ATYB consistently REgressed more and more. What I'm hearing here is ATYB taken to the next level, as it always should have been. CRYPTOPSY IS BACK!
vocals sound like lord worm and disalvo mixed. personally, i cant wait for this. its like old cryptopsy with a new brutaller feel. every band has to evolve and i think this progression in the right direction, unlike unspoken king.
Faith in Cryptopsy restored.
So much better than The Unspoken King.
Completely agree. Genre labels should serve as a means of giving you an idea of what something sounds like, nothing more. Bands aren't bound to them, and pretty much every band/artist out there could be split up into varying genres and sub-genres if we all wanted to be THAT pedantic and get THAT technical.
At the end of the day, it still all boils down to whether you enjoy the MUSIC or not. It really is that simple.
I really liked some stuff on the unspoken king, but this... This will be EPIC!
That sounds like the stupidly hectic Cryptopsy i love.
Hopefully preordering my copy in the morning!:)
They've back!!!
Thank you Jon for rejoining and getting this band back on track. Anyone that complains about Lord Worm's absence can go hang out with all the Chris Barnes fanboys, you guys obviously don't have a grasp on the deeper musical nuances of this band. Fuck labeling their sound, how about wait for the record to drop and support them if you like what you hear. Easy enough?
Yeah it look like the guys are getting along well now. unspoken king was a transition album
I am with you man, I memorize mine before I even go into the studio.
wow this sounds pretty amazing cant wait for the new album!
Bought the new album plus a t shirt on their official website, fucking can't wait till it arrives!!
HELL YEAH!!! Can't wait \m/
Enfin le retour de Jon!!!
I will admit though, that Amputated Enigma, sounds quite awesome...
Hopefully it lives up to the hype
Classic!!! Love the vocals \m/ Thank god Worm is gone!!!
Pretty sure he meant Lord Worm-era Cryptopsy, which is the only Cryptopsy that matters to me.
So I wonder if it was Flo who decided to bring back in the main songwriter of the band and go "no no no, it still needs to kind of sound like we're deathcore trying to be death metal" instead of letting the riff god come up with his inhumanly awesome music. What the fuck, guys... I had high hopes watching this and now I'm only mildly excited to give it a listen. Don't be a shell of yourselves still, you already have been for years.
Sounds Very promising!
wow! amazing! cant wait to hear some new levaseur solos!
hmm, i love the guitar tone.
That girl actually doesn't growl too shabby. It's still no BMF or NSV, but I'll definitely check this out.
That's a dude, his names Matt McGachy
Looks very brutal e a lots better than the last albums. I feel the spirit from "Whisper Supremacy" here. The vocalist is singing DEATH METAL now, and not hardcore like he used to sing. I will get the new album for sure.
NSV was their best album and will always be one of my favorite records. They won't ever reach that level of greatness again in my eyes, but nevertheless I'm very excited for this, and so glad that Jon is back.
New-aged tech death metal for children. R.I.P. Cryptopsy.
awesome pick ups as well !
Yes it does.
I've heard and seen tons of complaints about the new Nile production actually. But I think this sounds pretty good
I'm going to buy this album right now!!! *left*
Sounds brutal as fuck. They must make another album similar to none so vile.
Amen to that. If you listen to other albums Chris Donaldson has produced recently (Neuraxis, Beyond Creation etc) the production values sound very similar to this. I personally think it sounds great, the mix is clear and you can hear every bit of what's going on. As much as I love that "old school" sound, it's 2012, and music production has come on leaps and bounds in recent years.
It does. That guy at 1:32 even has a Whitechapel t shirt, and the vocals sounds like Annotations of on Autopsy or some shit like that
Cryptopsy Returns (?)
This is CRYPTOPSY!!!1!!111!
It's Cryptopsy with a different edge, a slight twist if you will... just like any band with a new album. Listen to Rush nowadays and they sound nothing like they did in the 70s - it's expected. Listen to any band's older album to listen to that particular sound - otherwise, enjoy the new stuff, fuck. To me, this is bananas in the sense of awesome!
Brutal, powerful, bad ass!
\m/\m/
Cool shit! I'm pumped to get this. The vocals are better...but I'm not going to ask for Lord Worm back, because it obviously won't happen. He gave legendary vocal performances and made a huge impact on the Death Metal community, time to move on. Matt IS getting better.
Who played bass for this album? Was it Youri Raymond or the new guy, Oliver Pinard?
As far as the production goes, stop whining. It's how bands are being produced now, clean and legible. It's nice to be able to hear the riffs for a change, which are quite frankly awesome riffs.
Been looking forward to this album as much as the new Dying Fetus, the new Spawn of Possession and the new Cannibal Corpse.
Technical Death Metal to the bone no deathcore shit here. Very Promising
I never said that the guitar tone would be different on the teaser and not the final versions, so I'd prefer if you don't assume. The point I'm trying to make is that you can't really make a point about the MUSIC that will be released, I didn't say anything about the production. I doubt Chris is gonna re-amp the tracks too, but oh well, if it sounds good, then I'll listen to it. If not, big deal, I'll just get over it and move on.
i very much like what i am hearing.
I'm glad to hear that the clean vocals got dropped. Do the vocals in certain spots remind anyone else of Psycroptic's stuff?
@shockofhyperbole You should give once was not another try. Nothing directionless about that album. Plus it has Lord Worm's finest vocal performance to date!
I got their new album yesterday (hard copy), it's really fucking amazing, everyone should get this album!
13 people want another album like the Unspoken King
There was nothing regressive about Once Was Not. Sometimes I think people say that simply because they believe Jon didn't write the music on that album (which is wrong - Jon wrote everything on Once Was Not before leaving the band, although his solos were replaced which is a shame).
Really dig this. I couldn't like the last album, but this sounds modern without being trendy or just plain bad. I'll definitely pick it up.
BRUTAL
You just described a lot of old-school death metal. There is nothing REMOTELY core about this trailer. Like, not even close. This is more like Whisper Supremacy than anything.
lord knows he has the lyrics!
Wow that sounds like the old days I love it! I remember seeing you guys on your first Canadian tour after you self-released your debut album. Lord Worm and the whole band were in fine form, one of the best live shows I ever seen in my life. This clip takes me back to that time!
Holy shit, this actually sounds... good?!
I KNOW I'M SO PUMPED
well its not exactly oldschool Cryptopsy, but sounds very promising!!!
@Dimebag: "This sounds nothing like Cryptopsy"??? Don't be silly. Every listener with a realistic view on things has to admit this sounds 100% Cryptopsy. The style of these songs (and vocals) is absolutely in the vain of Whisper supremacy which is my favorite Cryptopsy album so far. Very, very great!!!
i like how he has to look at his lyrics for "EEEERRRGHGHHHHHHHHH" haha
He did a good job with the Neuraxis album so I'm looking forward to this release. And I know of Dead Congregation, and their guitar tone is much better than this, but this isn't bad either. That's just my opinion. If they wanna do this, then let 'em. As for Nile, the new production isn't too bad honestly. Sure, something seems a little off, but at least now you can hear Kollias more. Just be happy Jon is back in the band and they're moving back to death metal, not the crap they pulled in 2008.
cool Whitechapel/Despised Icon shirt!
I find it funny how people are complaining about the new guitar tone and how this sounds like crap. It's a teaser, you don't know what the whole thing sounds like yet, and would you rather them continue in their "Unspoken King" vein? I highly doubt it. For the tone/production, who cares? It's 2012, not 1996. I mean come on, even Nile changed their production in their new album, but no one is complaining about that. Just wait for it to come out, then make a proper judgement.
It's not dirty, but I wouldn't say it's sterile. Just not "raw". Fits the music DAMN well.
This shit is so bad ass!!!
They need Lord Worm back!
from 1:50 YES.
WUUUHHH Tech/death i love it
this album sounds pretty promising the unspoken king was just a complete fuck up
Adoro essa pancadaria! \m/
OMG are Cryptopsy back on full form?
Deathcore can fuck right off of this band! Pure Death Metal from the get go...
This has added a lot of Tech (Which was later brought in anyway) but, so far, sounds...brutal!
...Ok...I gotta check it out!
Yeah, vocal styles have never impacted my opinion of music hugely either. I'm mostly here for the riffs. Maybe it's the overall production that bugs me, but I do feel like I'm starting to warm up to some of the riffs.
the thing about deathcore being exclusively inhales is dead wrong though.
This sounds a lot better than the shit they were doing a few years ago
At 00:23 he is reading "OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHRRRRRRGG"
1:34 Holy shit! Hail to Jon \m/
How can vocals sound "deathcore"? The vocal style used in deathcore is directly borrowed from death metal. What adds the "core" suffix is breakdowns, and other significant influences from hardcore, being used in conjunction with the death metal riffs and blasts. I don't really hear much hardcore/metalcore influence at all in this sampler. I think that some people are just nitpicking for things to call deathcore now. Anyways, good for Cryptopsy. A step back in the right direction, in my opinion.
