Not sure if anyone has mentioned this. The map is different every time you start a new game. So when you start a new game, go to your command wheel (to give orders) and zoom the view out to check all the local resources available. If you don't like what you see, simply restart. I personally like to have rabbits and lots of stone nearby to advance as far as I can in the demo. I also try and get all 'positive' trait rats as workers (i.e.: Fun, Frugal, Hygiene, etc.) and ignore the negative rats. Lastly, building a masonry will help you get better structures. A second sawmill helps split work for getting both sticks and planks. 🙂
Last I saw they didn't even have an English-language demo, so I'm really glad you covered this. My kid loves rats and princesses and has been bugging me about this game for ages, nice to see it's still going.
"who gaf nobody reads the description anyways." Man... I sure do. I always appreciate you taking the time to write a little blurb for those of us who do read it.
I've never heard limestone described as looking like "elephant-skin" before, but I love it. I live in an area where old limestone buildings are common, and I love their distinctive look.
Saw this game and went to play the demo asap. Now I'm obsessed and ready to watch you play ^^ So neat how hands-on this game feels compared to most city builders. It makes everything so much more personal, that I fear losing subjects to danger or poor health. I'm so excited for the full game!
Feels like more friendly ONI in some aspects. Great visual style and truly asian attention to detail. They even have varied sleeping poses already! Thanks for highlighting this one.
The more hands-on approach makes it seem like a perfect contender to add more in-depth psychological/social factors where you can/should manually talk to your citizens and befriend them animal Crossing style. The cute designs already scream individual investment in certain characters/names compared to other city builders where workers are mostly just a function with necessities.
I've been looking forward to this game for a while now since I liked the previous game and it gives me those Rimworld/Teraria vibes. I liked the setting of Ratropolis so much I ran a shortish Powered by the Apocalypse game set in a frontier town that would eventually have to deal with the aftermath of Ratropolis (the zombie rats), refugees, "feral" rats, political machinations, and eventually weasels. They found the weasels early.
Little ditty about Jack and Duna/Two Ratopia kids growin' up in the heartland Jack, he's gonna be a mining star/Duna's debutante backseat of Jacky's car
I don't like being the "Well, actually" guy, but... Well, actually this is a Oxygen Not Included clone. A good one for sure, but if this game picked your interest I highly suggest that you play ONI also, since it's an already complete game.
@@mattkomlofske8912 As always with these games, your enjoyment of the Difficult Curve/Complexity is subjective, but if you're into it ONI is Masterclass level of quality, definitively worth checking out or buying it even at full price.
@@KarlHeinzRom Spattercat says it twice, but Ratopia looks far closer to Craft the World than it does to Oxygen Not Included. ONI is significantly more complex, CtW is a more chill colony defence game that lets you control individual dwarfs.
It's really nice to see this small independent studio doing well. Ratropolis is surprisingly good for a card-based game, and very funny at that. I'm eager to see how this game will be on release ^^
This looks pretty danged awesome. It reminds me of ONI/Oxygen Not Included but simpler and with Rats instead of Dupes. I love ONI but anyone who's played it can tell you it can be very challenging/hard. I love the Dupes in ONI and being someone who likes Rats, even for pets, this game looks amazing. I can't wait for this one to drop. Thank you Splatty for bringing us yet another banger from the looks of things. God Bless...
I can respect any game that successfully includes the concept of personal hygiene - it nearly inspired the poster to wash his hands more! This is positive change.
I've played at least four or five playthroughs of the demo so far just to test stuff out, and I keep running into money problems. Could be that I'm stressing too much because of the limited time, can't wait for the full release so I can take my time and plan out the city appropriately :D
this game has a strong Oxygen Not Included clone vibe in a lot of aspects of gameplay, including the way mined out materials fall to the floor creating a mess and base building. Similar gaming mechanic with research and assigning rats to jobs and maintaining happiness and cleanliness etc. lol... looks like a fun game either way. Oxygen Not Included gets really difficult the longer into your base gets into development and balancing heat/resources/happiness/food/germs/oxygen becomes a nightmare
You can set buildings over occupied tiles and they will automatically set those to be dug out. And The Princess can level her stats as well, she upgrades strength she not only digs faster but can carry more at a time.
I used to have two rats as pets. When one of them died, the other one was so sad she tried to bite me when I reached in to pick up the dead one, but her bite was barely a nibble like she just had no energy to bite. And for weeks afterward she would do nothing but sit in one corner all the time. :(
So good to see a colony builder where you a) PAY your citizens for their work, and b) Will have to implement policies that will have consequences. Been seeing far too many authoritarian colony builders that don't take these sim facets into account. This game looks adorable btw, and is going straight on the wishlist!
while I see your point. colony sims are kinda "work and help out the colony or you die". it isn't necessarily authoritarian. more like a commune where people are paid in the necessities to survive.
I agree authoritarian probably not the right idea here. In a DF style game people just kind of collectively do whatever needs doing and take what they need, with the player's influence being a bit abstract. Here you play as a specific person - a royal even - who personally dictates what work is to be done by whom and even who gets to sleep in what bed (if any). Also I've not looked at the laws too hard but I'm pretty sure you could set some way worse policies than "to each according to their need"
I have already played a game with a rat prince that is all sad and gruesome and now its time to play a game with a princes were everything is peacefulish.
Splattercatgaming, I did read the description though LOL. I was trying to see if this is a game my sister would like. The description made it easy to make my choice, and yes I think she'll like it.

i really enjoyed Ratropolis so i looked into this game as well. its on my wait and see since i did like Craft the world and a little bit of ONI. I'm a bit mixed on controlling the princess. While great early it could get really restricting late game when your colony is very large. While still super early i look forward to seeing this release with hopefully a good map creator or campaign.
I am already traumatized by Oxygen Not Included this game is tooooo similar but looks like the difficulty is be right for me. Hopefully I remember this game when I get to my computer.
Very cute. Scratching that ONI itch badly, but really hate the fact that we will need to always maneuver the main character instead of letting her take off on her own. Very low probability, but hopefully they would implement that. More Rimworld and ONI and less factorio because you eventually pigeonhole every build and playthrough.
