      Thx for the overview, Joseph! I finally decided to order a Gen 2 on Dec. 4th (this year) and it arrived - and I'm not kidding - yesterday on Dec. 13th. 😳 Nine days later. After reading story after story online about some people waiting months and months, even upwards of a year, I was shocked. I was prepared for a long wait. Not happy about it, y'know, but prepared. I feel bad for those folks still waiting. In all fairness, they should've received theirs long before mine. Whatever algorithm Starlink's using for order fulfilment, they're not letting us know. In any case, though, I'm thankful I don't have to wait. I thought I'd have plenty of time to order the ethernet adapter and mounting arm, but as it turns out I need to get on it ASAP! Wish I'd seen your video before I ordered!

      The first two (lightweight) boxes of roof mount and longer cable were delivered to our front door. Then a week later whoever/whatever service delivered the weights for the roof mount and the expensive/very saleable dish left them at the end of our driveway clearly visible next to our mailbox on a rural state highway that has been plagued by mail thefts. Thanks, whoever! I wonder if the shipments are insured by Starlink or the carrier?

    Thanks for the great video, it helped tremendously. I bypassed the Starlink router and used the TP-link Archer AX6000, TP-link Omada hardware controller, TP- link 8-port switch, and 4 of the TP-link Omada AC1200 access points. I hooked everything up as you showed and it works great. Then I added 5 cameras to the mesh and all is good. As you said in the beginning that ethernet adapter was the killer as it took me 7 weeks to get. Thanks again.

    I just installed my Starlink last night and my wife and I are amazed! We've had Hughesnet for a lot of years and it is a joke compared to this. I put it on a pole I already had, because I didn't want to put holes in my roof either. Coincidentally, it appears we have the same roof, stone-coated steel. We love it also!

    Very good video. I received Mr. Bevel 4 weeks ago and everything you have just completed I have experienced. Folks you need to listen to what he is saying about the mount you will be preferring. I wanted until I received Mr. Bevel to decide on a mount. I am still waiting on the mount for a permanent mounting solution. One other piece of information that some of you might need to know. My unit came with a very light scratch on the face. I was concerned of possible future damage so I contacted Starlink and informed them. They immediately sent me a replacement. I set up my original order so I could get internet and it is soooo sweet. But here was the confusing part. If you look at the 15 minute mark of this video you will see the unit move after he plugged it in to search for satellites. If you have to return your unit for some reason it won’t just fold back into the original position so it will fit in the box to return. You can’t even force it and shouldn’t try. This is how it will work if you find yourself needing to return it for some reason. You take the unit and lay it face down on a flat surface like your kitchen table. You plug it in and within 3 minutes it will fold back up into the position it came in. Hopefully that might help some of you. Possibly in your next video you might want to show how that is done. Great video!!

    I was a fairly early beta subscriber in the Pacific Northwest. I've had my system for just over 6 months. I have about 20% antenna edge obstruction from trees which is not correctable. I have an "outage" every hour or so that Starlink detects and records due to those "obstructions", but I don't see them in my system's performance. My average download speed is 169 mbps. My average upload speed is 14 mbps.The fastest download speed I've ever measured was 401 mbps.The system seems immune to heavy rain, fog, etc, which is an almost daily occurrence here.

      Outages should be less and less as more Starlink sats are deployed. The new shells will also give more options to fill out the voids.

      We just got Starlink for our cabin in the Idaho mountains. We have huge trees all over our property and it consistently shows 23-25% obstructions at any "open" area I try. But, when we tried, I could not even get it to go online. Just wondering, since it sounds like you have the same type scenario, if you have any tips for me? Maybe we did something wrong.... I was going to cancel but might give it another try!

    FedEx did the same to me as well... just dropped the Box marked "starlink" for all to see at the end of our driveway... which is about 400 feet from the house!
    But on the plus side Starlink is now our primary internet service and my 2 DSL 6mb lines I have balanced together has now become our backup service. Also we now are able to have live security cameras to protect our property out in the countryside!

    Excellent video! Located in a Puerto Rico. Pre-ordered in Feb 2021 for service in 2022. 2022 came and service availability was moved to 2023. Today I got an email saying that Starlink service is available in my area. Order submitted… Can’t wait for it to arrive. Only concern is that the app is saying I have a 1.59% obstruction but there are none to the North, East or West from the spot I chose. We’ll see.

    I purchased a unit about 2 weeks ago. Setup was difficult. I had not seen your video. I found you by chance trying to research setups on RUclips and found newer videos. I am a subscriber to your channel now and enjoying it. I reside in Canada, Saskatchewan. I had to wait several hours for the unit to start functioning and put a ticket through the support to try and resolve the unit location to its proper location. I admit I am technically challenged with technology. Eventually got it working and had to relocate it. I ordered a gable end mount which I received yesterday. I reside two hrs from the cabin so installation will be in a few days. I am disappointed with the speed and the latency and I did watch your video on topic and wrote to Starlink. They said they would look into it but that is almost a week now and still waiting. I got an automated reply and that is it.
    I will continue to trouble shoot watching more of your videos. I also received an Ethernet plug in. Signal strength within the cabin is not very good unless I am right at the base unit so I have acquired a wifi 6a router and will try that.
    Thanks for your videos and knowledge.

    This is exactly why im getting Starlink is to use it as a Failover IP. Spectrum is my primary and I have gig with them but the build out here is OLD and we are constantly haveing issues with drop outs, signal issues or degrigation of the speeds and since I live by a state park all cell service around here sucks so Starlink will be the only saving grave when it comes to having a back up.

    Joseph, first let me say how much I enjoy your channel and the content you produce. Your videos and commentary are first class and mean so much to a non expert, but somewhat competent network “wannabe”. I need your advice. I have been on the Starlink waiting list since 4/21. Today, I used a Google plus code to try and order service at a location about 50 miles from my home. It was located within the new map provided on the SL website or app, I’m not sure. Anyway, it worked! I placed the order for the kit and a couple accessories, paid for it with ApplePay and used my home address for shipping. I got confirmation emails on everything.
    Now my question is how to proceed from here. I haven’t cancelled my original order and refund request for my $99 deposit. I was going to do that the day I received and setup the new equipment. Do I have to physically travel to the service address listed to do the initial setup (not sure there is power there) or should I try to change the service address to my home and try to setup from there? I figure I’ve won half the battle by being able to place the equipment and accessory order. Joseph, my mentor, what would you do? Thank you so much and keep up the great work! 👍👍

      @jcristina  2 года назад +1

      :) Thank you for being here.. Of course I'm not a Starlink Rep so what I say is just from some guy on RUclips, take it all with a grain of salt. That being said, I would not let the first order go until the 2nd arrives. Being that it's only 50 miles away, I would guess you should be able to install it at your location without a problem. It should not hurt to give it a try.

    I was on the wait list for about 4 months and now I am expecting my New Starlink, and some of it's needed accessories, to arrive by FedEx tomorrow (09/19/2022).
    So, now I need to figure out how to set it up without using any cell phone, or the Starlink App. I do have a somewhat clear area of obstructions, (tons of evergreen trees up here), facing directly North.
    Why no cell or Starlink app? Well, I live in a very rural mountain area at the far northern end of the Idaho Panhandle. currently, my cell service is practically non-existent. I used to have good service, (3 to 4 bars on my older LG and Samsung phones), back when we had 3G. Now, with 4G, (0 to 1 bar), it is totally abysmal service!
    Anyway, do you happen to have any videos for dong a Starlink Dishy set-up without using a cell phone or the Starlink app?
    Thank you & Hey, thanks for doing so many awesome vids on the Starlink!
    It's your vids that have helped me make a decision to give the Starlink a try.
    Well, that and the fact that my current microwave internet service kinda sucks at around 3 to 9 Mbps down, with a once-in-a-blue-moon 20 Mbps down. I'm paying $104 a month for the 25 Mbps down, service which never happens up here!

    That is a very interesting video, thanks for taking so much trouble. One question, any idea of the latency speed of your set up please?
    I live in North West France in a very rural area. The internet reception is CR*P so hence I am looking at Starlink. Like many people who have similar connection problems I also make how to videos for RUclips. The last 18 minute video I made took me over 5 hours to upload!!!!
    So I need to do something about this. Plus I have a stone built house and some 25 meters away a stone built office and I need internet connection in both. From my research so far I have come up with a pole mounted antenna on the office outer wall above roof height then a feed into the office and from the office via an existing underground ethernet cable (via an ethernet adapter) into the house.
    Does that sound like it might work? Any help or suggestions would be gratefully received.

    Hi, this is my question about the rectangle dish, once the dish has the correct position for reception, does the dish stay in a fix position or does it have to rotate to track the the signal? With version one dish if there was ice on the dish mechanism, mentioned that you would have to remove ice from the pivot point! In the version one there was dish heating, but not at the pivot point! I’m guessing that the rectangle dish has broader reception angle so it might not have to move once it has the correct position? I never recommended version 1 to my clients who lived in a area with icing!

      "Thank you so much for reaching out!

You can use external extensions/adaptors to increase the length if you'd like to do so. The only equipment provided by us are sold solely on our website, therefore if you see 3rd party equipment mentioning Starlink, please advise it has not been tested with us directly. We have had customers successfully use 3rd party adaptors and extensions, but please note we cannot provide you with any suggestions on companies or manufactures as we do not test what equipment will be compatible in your area and or with our kits.
      Our team continues to work on bringing more features and available accessories as we continue to grow at Starlink. If you have any further questions, please feel free to reach out to me at any time Greg!
      We always appreciate reading our customers reviews and feedback. If you appreciated our communications today, please feel free to fill out our customer survey on our assistance as support representatives, This survey is based solely on my performance as a rep and not exactly the timeliness or issues beyond our control. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day! "
      I've searched everywhere and can't find a 3rd party connector for 2 cables. I will respond to the ticket and see if they can do a 200' one for me, which they say is their MAX, since "anything over that, even a few feet more may cause diminished performance and connectivity". What I've read is 300'(100m) is the magic number not to cross otherwise service goes downhill.
      Thanks again JC

    Hi Joe . I received my system last night under the “Beat Effort” service . My speeds during “Peak Hours “ measured at an average of 60 Down and 20 Up with latency of about 36. And today, so far, I am getting about 110 Down and 12 Up during Non-Pean times. Either speeds are more than adequate for my needs . All of this while the dish sits on my deck awaiting a more appropriate installation . I am very happy here.
    Quick Question: Do you see a reason as to why I must disable the WIFI on the STARLINK router to use my existing EERO WiFI Mesh system ? Can They both co-exist without issues . I would love to avoid buying the Starling Mesh Router if possible, since I live in a large home and definitely need WIFI at some ends of my home .
    What is the impact of having the STARLINK and my EERo system working at the same time under the same SSID? I did buy tve Ethernet Adapter from STARLINK

    • @jcristina
      @jcristina  Год назад +2

      You just don’t want them to step on each other. Say you have an iPhone near the Starlink router and it get up 192.168.1.50 and then the other router provide the same IP to another device on the same network, example.

By the way , at this point the “Best Effort “ service has been great . Speeds are awesome and I have not had or experienced any slowness that has impacted my internet use. Calling my Telco and HotSpot service tomorrow to cancel . Going with no backup #brave

    If it’s available where you live how long does it usually take to get the setup.? Also is it good for gaming

    • @jcristina
      @jcristina  2 года назад +1

      I’m not sure about the time frame. As for gaming, in my area I would say no. Not that the latency is to high, I get 30-50ms which is playable but the outrages of 2 secs up to 15 seconds that happen randomly make gaming a no go. Movie watching or anything else that pre-loads / caches the data is fine. But, remember in you area it might be worth or much better. Over time I will speculate the outrages will no longer be a thing as more satellites at put into use.

    A question. My girlfriend has Gen 1. We ordered at the same time in February last year, she got hers in a week, and I'm still waiting. The Gen 1 has an Ethernet style connector from the power supply to the modem. Did they change that? We had to install a normal router to hers because her Gen 1 router was very problematic. Do I now need the adapter to change the router?

    I have a very old Apple wifi. Want to get a mesh network. I have an air bridge out to my metal outbuilding. In the house it is connected to one of the Apple Expresses.
    Which mesh system will allow me to connect this air bridge similarly to a “node” away from my base unit? My wifi “base” is across the house and it would be a lot of work running a cable all the way to it. I don’t want to move the base as its plugged into an outlet with uninterruptible power(backup generator.)
