The gen2 router is a copy of an apple product. Not only did they remove the ethernet port, but they also changed the antenna cable to a proprietary connector, whant to know a dirty secret? Is still an ethernet cable, you can cut the dish cable, wire an rj45 connector, connect it to a POE power supply and you can connect that directly to any router you want so you can throw away that terrible router.

It could be acquiring signal and will come online with in a few minutes, up to 15 minutes depending. If not, I would factory reset everything and start over. If that does not work either, their could be a hardware problem and it would need to be replaced.
From this message I understand that the Gen 3 Router is not yet being offered with new Starlink install packages, right? So, if I order a new setup now I will need the dongle with my Gen 2 Router. Where does this dongle connect? Is it between the router and the power supply?
What is the setup for a new Gen-3 router with an existing/working Gen-2 router and rectangle dish? The current Gen-2 setup uses the starlink ethernet adapter to connect to another router that feeds a TV. Thanks for any help!!
Waste of time. Wifi6/63 is an interim wifi, wait until wifi7 matures to change router out if desired. Limitation is placing the router in the attic?? Great if you want wifi sitting on your roof?
@@jcristina Available if you want to pay through the nose.............. waiting for mass production on wifi7 is probably worthwhile. As far as starlink goes I have the old dish sitting in a box, just wondering how long before that will be obsolete. Assuming it will work with the old and new satellites but what do I lose compared to the square antenna and I imagine a next gen antenna is not to far down the trodden path. Perhaps consider doing a video when the next gen antenna comes out, whether its worthwhile acquiring compared to the two previous models. Main reason cost of service still too high for my taste. Hi @JCristina my starlink is very slow , I report support starlink, change first modem and etherner , when it here my house change the old modem for this new send me starlink , but not working and again slow :(. Now waiting , now support send me new modem and Cable
Can the Gen 3 router be configured to broadcast a separate 2.4 Ghz frequency as well as a 5 Ghz? I currently have multiple "smart" devices (switches/plugs) tgat will only connect to 2.4 Ghz. I am considering switching to Starlink as my ISP vs At&t and not uses tge At&t router
New to Starlink (+/< 3 months). NOT A TECH TYPE... Attempted to expand mesh based upon info in the "Step by step..." video: ruclips.net/video/Y2QN_VPazE4/видео.html. I need to expand my network to cover multiple buildings (3) on my property. Due to lack of knowledge, I did not realize a difference between Gens 2 & 3. I have Gen 3. Is the same Omada controller, switch, and AP set up compatible? I never got past setting up the Omada hardware controller in the app. Advice?
This still doesn’t have the best feature of Gen 1. With Gen 1, you don’t have to use the Starlink router at all. Plug an Ethernet cable into the white cable port on the power brick and run any router you want, even run WiFi 6e mesh behind that router. This was a feature/function I truly wish they’d bring back.
I ageee with that statement 100%. And I am anal about my network (Like J ) just like he said. With his video. Also I wonder if this will affect the dishyy kit $$$. In my oppinion the KISS method is best.
@@TheSTOPlayer Thanks for responding. I did not know the HP dish had that capability. I'm hoping my Gen 1 runs forever, but it's nice to know I have an option should it fail.
J, you do know the latest app software is wpa3 right? It defaults to whatever your max device offers, but its been wpa3 for a year and a half on the app...love ya Be Well 🕊️
It would have been nice if you had some one doing what you were saying. We are still having problems trying to connect out Gen 3 router. We got the first part done where you connect the cable to the white power source and to the router. The second cable you plug one end to the router but where do you plug the other end? We only have the upright router and a long cable to the dish.
New Router has to be 150 feet from the main router Before I buy gen 3.. wanna make sure it’s actually gonna work without a cord bc the main router doesn’t have another plug to connect …it has to be wireless If it’s plugged in near the orginal … connects… then brought to plug in 150 ft away.. will it work?
Mesh network = great, but slow connectivity. Cool, how long has starlink been out? Buy new hardware every year? And how many purple have wifi 6 devices? Seems this guy just wants people to spend money.
So if i understand I have my Gen 2 router and one Gen 2 mesh node, so when i am able to get the Gen 3 router can i then move my Gen 2 router into a mesh node status? As always great content. Thanks. And mo tea time today you must have been excited to get this out there😅😅😅😅.
@@jcristina I killed power to both the router and the dish, waited 30 seconds and reconnected power. When it came back up the light was on. That was a few hours ago and the light is off again. Still have internet though.
So I have had two nodes running off my main router wirelessly for some time. I would like to convert the nodes to being wired to the main router (leveraging existing ethernet cables routed through my home). I don't see any specific instruction how to do this - is it as simple as just plugging one ethernet into an available plug on the gen 3 router and the other end into the gen 3 node? I've done this and it seems my nodes are running fast, but I don't see the connection of the node changing from 5 ghz to "wired".
I finally managed to convince Starlink's website that my address is real. The only bummer is I could not order the new Gen 3 router. It has been restricted to a handful of US users by invitation only. 😞 I did include the ground mount, extra cable, and Ethernet adapter, so I should be set. Now it's time to hurry up and wait.
Probably not, just got my starlink today and its gen 2, it only took 2 years and 5 months. Haven’t even hooked it up yet because I have to order mounting hardware.
I was offered and accepted one of the new Gen3 routers, still using the original Gen1 dish. I know Gen1 can't be used in a mesh network. I'm also using a Linksys node system to try and extend wifi signal but it's not performing as well as I would like. Would a different node system/wifi extender work better in this situation? Full disclosure though, my office/router and nodes are separated by what used to be an outside wall and I am unable to relocate the router.
Make a stand-alone dishy for people that want to connect it directly to a server rack like gen 1. Stop forcing your proprietary connector bullshit and/or required router. Unless the modem isn't located in the dishy itself there is no reason to force this requirement on people.
So the round dish is the gen 1 and the square one? Gen 2 . I have the round dish. so that will be for me, right. thank you love your videos they help very much.
Thanks for the info on the LED indicator. I set up my Gen3 yesterday with great results. But when I woke up this morning, there was no LED indicator, so I thought it died in the night. I did a speed test thru the app and saw it was still working. It's kind of confusing to turn the LED off, even though the router is on and working. IMO, they should leave the white LED on to indicate that it's still connected to the internet rather than making noobs like me think that it's powered off.
We just got ours off the waiting list 3 days ago and it has the vertical and not the horizontal router so I am assuming we won't get one for another couple years. LOL!
They are a little behind the curve. WiFi 6+ is already available and you can buy a WiFi 7 router. As I said in my last comment, very few devices support WiFi 6 let alone 6+ and seven.
Isn't one of the advantages that the mesh talks over WIFI 6 to get your distant coverage then the local connection is WIFI 5@@jcristina, pondering getting 3 , they are $199 early order and I am looking at a cart with 3 because that is would I would need for my property but this tech usually drops in price pretty fast and our current situation works for us even it not as fast a possible. Not sure paying $650 to be a test subject is worth it.
Great. I just ordered last week. I'm guessing gen 2. My sub conscious was telling me to wait. I had trouble using my debit card. Usually a red flag not to continue, for me. Slow internet and impatience I persevered with payment. The gen 2 should be fine. I have a new HiKVision router which I will setup in WISP mode and should be good to go.
Hello, I have tried setting up my gen 3 router using your instructions and it shows on my device but connects with no internet. The light indicator on the gen 3 unit continues to flash white. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Make sure all of your wires are connect well. I would remove and plug back in and then factory reboot/reset the unit and see if it finds the sats. Might be defective if not. Sure link up pretty quickly.
Can you give me a couple of names/links that show how to connect gen 3 from gen 2. We are having a hard time upgrading. I need to watch someone who is showing what to do. Thank you for any help!
@JCristina 6 TP Link Routers jammed it's own signal and didn't work on my 2 acre property. 6 Starlink routers spaced at 70 feet has yellow signal, but works good at 5 MBPS-30 MBPS wifi speed around the entire property. Thank you for your help.
J, thanks for your response for my request to do a video on the new Starlink adapter that allows DC operation of the dish and gets rid of the Starlink Router. I couldn't find anything on RUclips but did find something today ruclips.net/video/APu5VKPUMaY/видео.html It was an OK video but I know you would do a much better job.
My Starlink is saying my Router is unreachable ..is this normal? My internet works…but I am also unable to access my Network? Is there any way this can be corrected? Thanks.
Did you figure this out? My router and dish have both been unreachable for 24hrs now. I’ve tried everything. The factory reset button doesn’t do anything either. I contacted support, but I may reach retirement age before they reply. I ordered a third party router on Amazon because I work from home and cannot afford to be without internet, but I don’t even know if it’ll actually work.
@@jcristina What you said in the video kind of makes a lot of sense because *if* Gen1’s gear isn’t compatible or optimized for the new SL 2.0 mini sats, there would likely be service degradation for G1 users if SL didn’t provide them an avenue to upgrade their equipment.
I am unable to get it, gen 2. My area just became available and speeds are actually pretty slow. I typically only average about 20-30. Better than at&t and Verizon, but nowhere near 50-100.
I just got my starlink yesterday.. As u can probably guess I'm wondering, why didn't I get the latest router? I waited over 2 1/2 years for my turn to come up. Any suggestions?
@@jcristina Oh OK. I didn't get to finish watching the video and thought gen 3 was already out replacing gen 2. My mistake. Thanks for the info. I just found your channel yesterday and I appreciate the effort you put into the videos.
I am a Gen 1 user and your router link worked for me. I was able to order the new router. Thanks for this as well as the breakdown of operation and setup.

I'm curious does the new factory reset function in the app do the same as a hard factory reset.
Honestly. Not sure.
Hi @JCristina my starlink is very slow , I report support starlink, change first modem and etherner , when it here my house change the old modem for this new send me starlink , but not working and again slow :(. Now waiting , now support send me new modem and Cable
You thing fixed ??
Can the Gen 3 router be configured to broadcast a separate 2.4 Ghz frequency as well as a 5 Ghz? I currently have multiple "smart" devices (switches/plugs) tgat will only connect to 2.4 Ghz. I am considering switching to Starlink as my ISP vs At&t and not uses tge At&t router
Thats 3rd gen router just for US customers??
Just for 1st upgrade. Not sure if it will be US first and then the world.
Way too much information for a basic startup.
What to get ready first,? Is New Account info needed? WIFI info needed?
A demo would be ideal.
Advice?
It is possible to connect a 3 rd gen startlink mesh node to a starlink 3 rd gen router with an ethernet cable
You can do this on the high performance dish ie not use SL router at all.
@@TheSTOPlayer Thanks for responding. I did not know the HP dish had that capability. I'm hoping my Gen 1 runs forever, but it's nice to know I have an option should it fail.
With the gen 3 I can connect multiple router to it
So I can connect 5 router to my starlink to get internet multiple room?
J, you do know the latest app software is wpa3 right? It defaults to whatever your max device offers, but its been wpa3 for a year and a half on the app...love ya Be Well 🕊️
Appreciate you.
@@jcristina You too J, Happy Weekend.... love all your content, and the great detail.......... Be Well! 🕊️
New Router has to be 150 feet from the main router
Before I buy gen 3.. wanna make sure it’s actually gonna work without a cord bc the main router doesn’t have another plug to connect …it has to be wireless
If it’s plugged in near the orginal … connects… then brought to plug in 150 ft away.. will it work?
So from this video if i understood it i cannot buy a gen 3 rooter and hook it up to my gen 2 dish because of the poe
You don't need cat 8 cable considering cat 6 can be used up to 10GBPS which starlink will never see in my lifetime.
HeyJ,please shed some light on led light on the Gen 3 router should it be off for long periods, because mine is off for very long periods
I still don’t understand, too many “other” stuff thrown in
Mesh network = great, but slow connectivity.
Cool, how long has starlink been out? Buy new hardware every year?
And how many purple have wifi 6 devices? Seems this guy just wants people to spend money.
He doesn't have an affiliation with a company, he has an affiliation with a polititics.
I just recieved my starlink yesterday and i recieved the 2nd gen.
Yep. That is the newest router. The Gen 3 is o oh to upgrade Gen 1 customers.
My new Gen 3 router does not have any Ethernet ports. Your video said there were 2 if I heard you correctly.
Great information by the way.
Look under the DOOR... There is a COVER..
Thanks so much Lisa!
Oh for heavens sake. I didn't realize there was a door. THANK YOU!!!
I installed the router and have internet, but there is no status light at all
Strange. Make sure everything is working. I’m t could turn off after a set period of time.
3rd Gen is only for 1st Gen customers to upgrade.
If I purchase starlink as of today, will i get it delivered with this gen 3 router?
Probably not, just got my starlink today and its gen 2, it only took 2 years and 5 months. Haven’t even hooked it up yet because I have to order mounting hardware.
Small correction, you only have to quickly press the reset button once vs holding it for a few seconds. Great video though!
If I own a WiFi 6 router that i use with my Starlink. Would I notice any difference with WiFi 6E? I do have WiFi 6E compatible devices
I can't buy that device why not?
Make sure you’re a Gen 1 customer. Gen 2 can’t purchase yet
Make a stand-alone dishy for people that want to connect it directly to a server rack like gen 1. Stop forcing your proprietary connector bullshit and/or required router. Unless the modem isn't located in the dishy itself there is no reason to force this requirement on people.
I connected my tp link and my internet went to shit. So I'm thinking I'll stick to just using their router.
I'm sure hoping the power adaptor output is 12 Volt DC. It's probably 48 Volts DC, but at least I can power it in my RV via a DC-to-DC converter.
Subscribed. You answered a couple of questions I had and was having problems finding an answer. Thank you!
Glad I could help!
I tried the link for the router and it said...... Product Not Found Hmmmmmm
Make sure you’re a Gen 1 customer. Gen 2 can’t purchase yet
Should I be worried about such an occurance
Being on the waiting list to get starlink, I wonder if it will come with the gen 3 router. Great vid btw.
We just got ours off the waiting list 3 days ago and it has the vertical and not the horizontal router so I am assuming we won't get one for another couple years. LOL!
I got mine yesterday after over 2 1/2 years and I got gen 2.
They are a little behind the curve. WiFi 6+ is already available and you can buy a WiFi 7 router. As I said in my last comment, very few devices support WiFi 6 let alone 6+ and seven.
Agree.
Damn I just got the old one like a month ago and now there's a new one?!
How do I get stable Starlink internet speed?
Very nice. Still not going to buy it.
👍🏻🍵
The link to the new router doesn't work. Getting a "Product not found" message. Thanks for the information!
can i hard wire a node (starlink 2 rounter) 200 ft away over cat5 cable ?
bullshit they just shipped that router to me this week
Wait, how does the new router plug into the dish? Or is it a new dish too? Can you use the same square dish?
Plugs into the POE via Ethernet.
@@jcristina so is the plug the same from the router to the dish?
Will the gen 2 cable work on the gen 3 router
Hello, I have tried setting up my gen 3 router using your instructions and it shows on my device but connects with no internet. The light indicator on the gen 3 unit continues to flash white. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Make sure all of your wires are connect well. I would remove and plug back in and then factory reboot/reset the unit and see if it finds the sats. Might be defective if not. Sure link up pretty quickly.
new specs better than ex spec ted ? is that a pun?
So this new router will work if I have a round dish? Or do I have to have a new rectangular dish?
Guy talks too much why i like other starlink creators.. they GET TO THE POINT and not ramble about random bs
Can you give me a couple of names/links that show how to connect gen 3 from gen 2. We are having a hard time upgrading. I need to watch someone who is showing what to do. Thank you for any help!
This dude thinks he's 16.
Will I have to have new cable from my anntena to my router?
@JCristina 6 TP Link Routers jammed it's own signal and didn't work on my 2 acre property. 6 Starlink routers spaced at 70 feet has yellow signal, but works good at 5 MBPS-30 MBPS wifi speed around the entire property. Thank you for your help.
🚀🚀🚀🚀
Does the Gen 3 router support ethernet backhaul? I would rather connect use them as access points wired into my network. Is that possible?
Don’t believe so. Sadly.
What's the average latency for Gen 3 router using the Ethernet port? Need reliable and stable video connection for Zoom, video chat, etc.
If I installed the gen3...can I use my gen 2asxa mesh?
J, thanks for your response for my request to do a video on the new Starlink adapter that allows DC operation of the dish and gets rid of the Starlink Router. I couldn't find anything on RUclips but did find something today ruclips.net/video/APu5VKPUMaY/видео.html It was an OK video but I know you would do a much better job.
I believe the Gen 3 router will be DC ready. No lost going from DC to AC 👍🏻
I tried your link for the router and all I get is......... Product Not Found
Make sure you’re a Gen 1 customer. Gen 2 can’t purchase yet
That's what I was thinking later. Tks@@jcristina
Please how can I generate key for different user
If you get an upgraded 3rd party router would you still need to upgrade the Starlink router for max speeds?
JC. Thanks for all the useful info. I have a question. Can I use Linksys wifi routers as a mesh network with this new gen3 router?
You’re the man, thank you for this video. 🎉 Tempting, tempting, tempting product.
Do any of these Starlink routers support VPN protocol? Can they pass through VPN from another brand of router?
I do not think so. I would recommend a third party router.
Great video, I have gen two, but a big house, so hoping for the gen 3 then I’ll try to set up my mesh network.
Link is broken. Looks like they removed it from the store.
This new Router doesn't appear to be available in Australia yet.
Great stuff. Unfortunately looks like the new router isn’t available to everyone at this point.
I think you’re right. Might be a test run to certain locations and Gen 1 customers.
@@jcristina What you said in the video kind of makes a lot of sense because *if* Gen1’s gear isn’t compatible or optimized for the new SL 2.0 mini sats, there would likely be service degradation for G1 users if SL didn’t provide them an avenue to upgrade their equipment.
Not available for me. I must be a Gen 2. The antenna I received was the rectangular version. I got my Starlink in May of 2022.
@@DirtyLilHobo yep gen 2 like mine
I am unable to get it, gen 2. My area just became available and speeds are actually pretty slow. I typically only average about 20-30. Better than at&t and Verizon, but nowhere near 50-100.
I just got my starlink yesterday.. As u can probably guess I'm wondering, why didn't I get the latest router? I waited over 2 1/2 years for my turn to come up. Any suggestions?
The gen 3 router is only for the Gen 1 customers as of right now.
@@jcristina Oh OK. I didn't get to finish watching the video and thought gen 3 was already out replacing gen 2. My mistake. Thanks for the info. I just found your channel yesterday and I appreciate the effort you put into the videos.
The very important is a small router like we use here in Kuwait
Can I use the original gen 1 router as part of my gen 3 mesh network?
Yes you can according to my knowledge.
Is there a way to use gen 1 as a node, if not what should I do with it?
I am a Gen 1 user and your router link worked for me.
I was able to order the new router.
Thanks for this as well as the breakdown of operation and setup.
Doesn't work anymore. According to Starlink, only select people who were selected will be able to get one for the time being.
Thanks!
You bet! Thanks for being here. Thank you for your support. Truly appreciate it.
Many blessings. Thanks again.
My question is can you use your main wire used on generation 2 that goes to Dishy to generation 3. My wire is through the wall
Mine is too..
Outstanding audio ... thanks
Thank you!
So if you get the new router can the old router be used as a mesh?
