I grew up watching the NBA during the '70's and '80's and any of the young'uns today who say that that era of players couldn't hang with today's players just don't have a clue. The '70's and '80's were the golden years of the NBA. There will never be another rivalry like the Celtics and Lakers of the '80's. 🙏✌️
Good stuff Byron. Bird was the man, love hearing his game described by someone who competed against him. Yours is always a fun and informative podcast, keep it up!
Byron is obviously such an amazing man. He has probably told those Bird stories a million times but still says them with enthusiasm . I think you realize he truly appreciated Bird and more than likely admired him as does Doc Rivers. I love his story of when he was with Atlanta and Bird torched them and they got fined for cheering for Bird
I think the bank shot 3 was against the Knicks. He made a bet with the Knicks trainer......and the game was a blowout and Bird got taken out during the game. And the trainer said you owe me 20 bucks. Bird was like Oh Damn I forgot. The other team got close, Bird went back in the game and within a couple of plays he banked a three, came over and got payment and stuck the twenty in his sock and kept playing.
So glad to find this Coach. Just came over from CVVs channel. Been a huge basketball fan since I was young... Really excited for The Byron Scott Podcast.
The acronym "SHIT" = 'S'hip 'H'igh 'I'n 'T'ransport. This acronym originated from old, old England back when they transported manure on sailing ships. The sailors hung the bags of manure from the ceilings and walls to keep the manure dry.
Larry could talk the talk AND walk the walk. He got into peoples heads and beat them mentally. Plus he was a Hall of Fame level ball player. He had a shot that you could not stop. Plus he could pass and rebound..
I’m super naïve as I always assumed that my Lakers old and new, especially showtime, were classier because I swear I never heard them curse until these podcasts came out. I’m talking 40 years I never heard them curse until 2022 😂
As a Showtime and Dynamic Duo (Shaq-Kobe) Era Laker Fan I have to handed over Larry Legend. Pat Riley said best- If my life depends on it, I'd choose Bird to shot the rock to save my hide.
What people NEVER talk about is also how slow Larry shoots the ball. No one never talk about it because it either touches the rim or it goes in swish. But look at how long that ball is in the air. . . Pretty long. Look at other videos say his 60 points vs Atlanta & making the bench cheer for HIM. That ball is in the air so long like it's telling a horror story to the opponent every time of "damn that ball is going in the net as slow as Bird"

Byron plz tell me you saw Luka 360 no Look pass off backboard to finney (?) I thinkkkkk? For the oop??? He starts the motion on the wing hesi passes defender into cleanest spin ever straight to basket spin off back board assist oop too teammate I grew up idolizing Jordan and you guys, and I’ve never seen such a poetic move in my life It was so good ppl believe Luka just missed the layup Lmao The dude is a freak
Bird would've gotten a lawsuit in today's soft league coz he would traumatize and probably make some players cry coz of his trashtalking then backing it up.
Larry Legend Bird was athletic but not on the level as a black player but Larry out hustled every black player Larry was 1 of 2 players to save the nba and so much more and Larry Legend Bird is the GOAT
I know another athlete that everyone talks about how slow an unathletic he is. his name is Tom Brady I'll take Birds and Brady's kind of un athleticism any day, every day!
Of course the bronsexuals would say things like Bird couldn't get a shot off against the superior athletes of today. IE how would bird get a shot off against a guy like KD whose so long and athletic. right bronsexuals??
I never get enough Larry Bird stories.
LARRY LEGEND IS A UNICORN & MY TRUE GOAT 🐐

^ true story
celtics and sixers games were pretty special

Many thanks!
My sentiment exactly. Good to hear from a former player instead of commentators.

Bird just had good court vision and awareness. He knew where to be for the ball. A joy to watch.
Love Byron...He tells it like it is and how it was then...honestly.
Being from Indiana I Loved Larry Legend he’s is awesome, but hats of to Byron Scott he always does a great interview

Happy you have you here!

The skill levels of Larry Bird and Luca are off the chart.
How about when Larry Bird played left handed! Man that was something.
In his prime Bird was as good or better than anyone who ever played the game. 🏀
I say it in almost every Bird video when they say he was slow: he wasn't slow. He was deliberate.
Fall away bank 3 into the trainer's lap. Bird called it and pulled it off. That's when the guys on the Hawks bench really lost it 🤣🤣🤣
Both of these boys were ballers. Could definitely play today.
Larry could talk the talk AND walk the walk. He got into peoples heads and beat them mentally. Plus he was a Hall of Fame level ball player. He had a shot that you could not stop. Plus he could pass and rebound..
There will never, ever be another Larry Bird. NEVER.
"In the trainers lap" - got a bit more literal than Larry intended I suspect - as part of that same game.
Love the podcast! Much love
🙏🔥
Horry really was a great player who sacrificed alot to do what was best for the team, exactly what Larry would do. 😁

I HATED Bird. And it was a PRIVILEGE to have seen him play.

I feel sorry for this younger generation... lol They actually played like they had a SET
sounds like Luka
If you play in the NBA you ARE athletic! Saying that he wasn't just sounds idiotic
