here after Dallas' game 7 win. Luka doesn't care about individual honors like MVP. he loves pressure, and hunts for matchups that people think are counterproductive for him. he relishes being in the playoffs. it's perfect for him. he's never had a bad playoff game, even when Dallas has lost. he's not gone down the path of being a Harden 2.0, he just wants rings like Giannis. the question of Luka being an all time great is not one of if, it's one of when. and I think that time is coming MUCH faster than any of us think.

It was not "shocking" that Luka was not the number one pick. No one knew if winning in Europe would translate to the NBA. And teams were looking to fill certain types of players in their rosters. The Suns already had Booker, so they were looking for a big to go with him. Marvin Bagley III was a Number one recruit out of high school, and was a named a consensus member of the All-American First-Team in his freshman year of college. It is in no way "shocking" that people drafted Ayton and Bagley ahead of Luka.

EDIT : You guys are giving me too much credit, I did think the Mavs were going to the 2nd round, but even then I only said hopefully. And I had the Suns going to the WCF so I got it completely wrong.

@@babezabe9197 i don't see how jarret allen and capela couldn't fill aytons role on the suns imo. Duncan was an all nba player as a rookie, led the spurs to a chip in his second year, comparing him and ayton is much crazier than ayton to allen and capela. Also saying luka and harden are a zero on defense is not true. Harden played great defense recently for the sixers and also luka is neutral on that end as well. To say luka is a player you like if you watch stats is an absurd thing to say. He has elite vision and collapses the defense regularly. My point is it is much more difficult to replace luka than ayton imo. Luka is a top 10 player and ayton is simply not. Even though they have chris paul now, they won't have him for long given his age, or at least not as long as they'd have luka. Kokoshkov may not be an accomplished nba trainer but he proved he can work with luka. But that doesn't matter anyway if they had their eyes on monty williams.

Takođe, Maveriksi nisu nijednom pobedili Sanse otkakako su Luka i Ejton draftovani.
"To say luka is a player you like if you watch stats is an absurd thing to say. He has elite vision and collapses the defense regularly." Isto radi i Harden, i obojica useru krevet kad zagusti, jer takva vrsta košarke nije pobednička.

But if they select Deandre Ayton and he turns out to be a bust it's not a problem because he was the consensus pick and everybody saw him play college ball so that kind of mistake does not cost anybody their job.
It didn't matter that we had more tape on this guy than Darko Milicic, he was still being talked about as some sort of mystery player who we didn't see against top flight competition even though the dude was playing against real men in Europe.

What kind of space does he have to make that choice? My argument is for European players in general, because if Luka played NCAA ball you can imagine this might be different. They have a higher threshold to clear and I believe it's due to the consequences of drafting a bust from Europe vs NCAA bust.

The big man is not the most important element of a team, but it is important. You’ll be hard pressed to find many Suns fans who would choose different could they go back in time to 2018 (there’s countless threads of Suns fans discussing it online). Also, they couldn't have afforded to pay Bridges (a future superstar) if they were to pay Luka the money he's earning with the Mavs, and don't even get me started on how poor of a fit Luka would be alongside Book. The Suns made a right decision, and they will only profit more in the future. By the time CP3 hangs it up, and it doesn't look like it's going to be anytime soon, they are going to have (at least) a Big 4 of Book, DA, Bridges and Cam J. "I did not know any cities" what a humble and down to earth mindset. He was just grateful that he was going to be in the best league and confident he would thrive anywhere.

Guys, he's not being humble. He is humble, but his answers don't necessarily reflect that. He's giving answers as a professional basket player.
He was, at 18, the best player in Europe. He had just won ROTY (the equivalent) in the EuroLeague and MVP the following year. Even without the NBA he'd have been a star overseas for the following 20 years. His legacy was not going to be an issue. When he says he couldn't care less in which city he'd end up or in which place in the draft he's just giving the practical answer of a pro. He knew he had little control over it and all he cared about was going to the right place to develop.

The draft has it's politics as well and a bias against foreign players.

I love Ayton but I will never forgive the Suns for not drafting Luka. To hell with hindsight, he was the most obvious #1 pick since Anthony Davis imo. A dude who's been playing PROFESSIONAL basketball in the 2nd best league in the world since he was 16, won MVP in that league, was clearly the greatest European prospect EVER...he was already elite at running pick and roll, had proven himself to be a high IQ guy, etc.
I'll never claim that I knew he'd be as amazing as he's been already or that he was a completely perfect prospect, but to be he seemed as NBA ready as anyone I've ever seen entering the draft.

Bro pro teams draft players they need, not always the best names. James Jones put one hell of a team that went to the finals but your still mad at a draft class from how many years ago? Ayton went to the chip sir and was a valuable piece in helping them get to the finals

    • @Ghostface2point0
      @Ghostface2point0 2 года назад

@@FloydWhoElseTV the Suns needed a playmaker! They forced Booker to play point the season before cuz they had no PGs on the roster and ended up spending 50 mil on Ricky Rubio after the draft. Thankfully they were able to get CP3 for next to nothing but Luka ABSOLUTELY filled a huge need on the team.

@@eddyirategekanya336 nah he did not single handedly. That's disrespectful to his supporting cast because they all came up huge in spurts . Jalen Brunson had a great series. You forgot? DFS had a game with 8 threes, bullock had a few good games, even kleber and bertan had a few good games. That's disrespectful to say he did it by himself.
