Yeah all bears like paved trails. If a bear is going to attack you standing still is not going to save you. I remember back in the 70's you were pretty lucky to get to see a bear and most people with common sense treated it as a wild animal and not a friendly pet. The bear population now is 2 to 3 times as many bears in the Smokies. Too many people and too many bears in the same place is not good.
I agree. Maybe it is time parents lock their phones up away from the digital generation. And drag them kicking and screaming in front of a television set to watch some good old fashion national geographic about wild bears.
This is what happens when citidiots come to the woods. As soon as you see any animal stay still or back away give them space, you can see them fine from further away. The one guy taking the pic by the ledge could have been mauled within 2 seconds quite easily. Never turn your back on any animal ever and don't run, if you stand your ground they will see you as threat if you turn and run they see you as prey. A lot of bears will bluff charge meaning they make a run at you and if you hold your ground they stop because they were testing you, if you run they run after you and if they chase on foot they will catch you, and better to see it coming then have it jump you from behind and have your arms and legs pinned down. If you hit it enough they might think you could be a threat and leave you alone.

You’d think people had never seen a bear before. Love how the Park Ranger pushed the bear towards the guy on the trail. Lucky that turned out ok. The bear is smarter than all the people except for wandering in to the park. Probably looking for the garbage the brilliant people leave behind. Remember a fed bear becomes a dead bear. Give credit where it’s due and the bear gave everyone some excitement without any injuries.
"Maybe he's afraid of us as much as we are of them...I dunno." Yeah, they are...and they aren't usually aggressive here in the Smokies. You people make them that way.
I don't need a sign because I'm trained in bear safety. Most people still believe that if you run away you'd be able to outrun a bear. So yes, signs and pamphlets on bear safety in bear territory are quite necessary.
Alaska tells people to stay at least 300 yards from bears and recommends carrying pepper spray (certain type for bears) when hiking in bear territory. Some grizzly bears can run up to 35 mph.
clearly the bear was not chasing the man, you can tell by the way it is running, it was running to get away from the people and it just chose the path of least resistance which happened to be the path the man was on
That bear wasn't chasing the man, you can tell he was running away from the people screaming as he looked back at them. You people got it totally wrong. He is actually running from humans at that moment he is not chasing the man, that road was the route he chose to escape from all that loud people yelling.
This guy made a real error in judgement to start running like he was and you saw how the bear started galloping when he did that, they see you as prey fleeing, you back away slowly like he was preferably head looking over shoulder but if the bear keeps pursuing you must turn and show yourself as intimidating by raising your arms high and shouting. If this does not ward him off which it should and he keeps pursuing then you need to grab a rock and toss it at it's nose or head!
What you say is completely wrong when you are attacked by a black bear. It is the right thing to do when you are attacked by a grizzly though. But if it's a black bear ALWAYS fight back. If it's a grizzly and it's a predatory attack you should also fight back with everything you got. And you are right about the fact that the bear will catch you if you run.
the bear wasn't chasing him, it was running from the car, it was further encouraged to do so when it saw the man also running and probably assumed they were running from the car to.
I want to go to the Smokies but I'm scared I might run up on one of these bears. SMH at the the people laughing. We're glad it's not us. Even if I'm not the one being chased by a bear. I still don't want to see a man get ripped to shreds by a bear.

All the guys that look like that hiker in the movies, usually get eaten
Being in known bear country has it's risks. Being there without adequate protection is just plain foolishness.
"I've never seen a bear before".....Keep behaving like an idiot and you'll see a lot more of the bear than you ever wanted....
Man: Why are you doing this to me?!!
Bear: Because! BEAR!!
props to the hiker...it's not easy to laugh during an interview, when you have crap in your pants
Haha haha...kids Laughing!!
Unbelievable...the upcoming generations are really something else'
🐻🌲🌲🌲🌲🐻
That's not funny why are they laughing. That man almost became a lunch for that bear.
RedNoir to be fair, they are I guess urbanites, they do not really understand what nature is (in this case a predator). Urban tourists that is. And yes, that guy could have been slaughtered. OR the bear killed to save this tourist's life. Either way, irresponsible people. They act like 10 years-old :(
You are right it isn't funny. You are wrong, he did not "Almost become lunch"
Thank you for sharing this, we have bears on the loose in Wi 😊
Thank god for park rangers
"Oh no..... come on man..... I come out here to do some exercise and walk for 1 hour for my heart health, and now I'm going to die to a freaking bear. I shoulda stayed home and drank beer"
This is the country that elected Trump after all.
This is the country where the simple minded turn everything political
The best bear insurance... have a hiking partner slower than you.
if you're gonna hike where there r bears u should know what to do when u see a bear! i love the guy that ask, "why r u laughing". abt time ignorant ppl get called on it
These people are goofy as hell the only one that has sense is the damn bear..
How would that man not have seen the bear earlier while walking down the path and moved away?
I don't need a sign because I'm trained in bear safety. Most people still believe that if you run away you'd be able to outrun a bear. So yes, signs and pamphlets on bear safety in bear territory are quite necessary.
He just needed to step off the trail and get out of the way as the Ranger said.
Many were disappointed you escaped. They wanted to film blood and gore.
People want to learn the hard way
Those people standing that close to the bear taking pictures should have been fined for molesting wildlife.
"what was going through your mind?"
"oh no!"
The bear was not interested in that man. He using the trail to get where he was going. Rarely does a black bear attack unless defending cubs.
Ahhh before smart phones and social media..hey let’s all take a polaroid picture. 😂
Alaska tells people to stay at least 300 yards from bears and recommends carrying pepper spray (certain type for bears) when hiking in bear territory. Some grizzly bears can run up to 35 mph.
1:14 Where did the bear disappear?
clearly the bear was not chasing the man, you can tell by the way it is running, it was running to get away from the people and it just chose the path of least resistance which happened to be the path the man was on
national parks always packed with the brightest people..
The bear was likely running from the car in this situation.
The 👮 urgency at 0:30 is amazing 😑
the bear wasn't chasing him, it was running from the car, it was further encouraged to do so when it saw the man also running and probably assumed they were running from the car to.
This black bear is soft like charmin. This man was lucky. Never never try to race with bear.
This video is a perfect example of what NOT to do, when you encounter a Bear. Lucky the Park Rangers showed up so quick...
I want to go to the Smokies but I'm scared I might run up on one of these bears. SMH at the the people laughing. We're glad it's not us. Even if I'm not the one being chased by a bear. I still don't want to see a man get ripped to shreds by a bear.
Its almost like they are trying to get it to attack him by screaming like idiots
The bear is not chasing that man. The bear is running away from the ranger's car. No need to create more fear of bears than there already is...
yep.
Hmm, i must have missed the part where the "Bear chases man". I never saw that.
Bear runs away from car should be a more appropriate title
Awww. The bear is just curious. LOL. Not entirely. Man, get off the "bears" trail. I didn't watch to the end, hope you are amazingly well!
