    You ARE the man Michael. You've always given WP a chance unlike a lot of other reviewers. This was a really good honest review. It's nice to see WP getting better and better, and when it's on a Nokia, well .... nokia hardware has always kicked ass...

      Yep my battery drain is pretty heavy since 8.1 apparently its because there are a few apps that haven't been optimised yet for 8.1 including whatsapp and viber. Hopefully this will be resolved soon via the official roll out!!

      I have to agree. Me being a strong apple hater, I would never touch a apple product. My wife however has used ipods and ipod touch for nearly a decade (ipod touch for only 3 years) and used to have a windows phone. She went to an iphone 5s for apps that link with her diabetic dr. (shes type one). So far she likes the iphone however itunes is now a pain to use and its the same with her ipod touch. The phone isnt as user friendly as her windows phone and the iphone draws in way more data. I mean I use my phone MORE on data than hers yet hers draws way more. No back ground apps going either. Kinda odd huh? After 7 months with her ihpone 5s, she still misses her windows phone. LOL

    I miss Windows Phone, look at the animation (and also lightweight) it makes my phone feel alive at that time, android is so boring, the only reason I bought android is just the apps.

    Used to think Windows phone had a lot of potential back then. Just wish they would have gotten better app support from their developers. Don't understand why they ever even had issues with it given the huge pockets Windows has as a company to buy proper development support.

    Whenever i discuss Windows phones i always remember GTA V.. :P Michael who is the rich middle aged ex robber, has an iPhone, because he doesn't care for functionality, he just wants to have whatever is most expensive.. There's Franklin who has an android, who is young and still learning, but also has a very sharp mind and is the most sensible of all..
    Then there's Trevor, with the windows phone, he doesn't care about anything except if the phone can be used as a blunt weapon to beat someone to death, but also be able to work and make calls afterwards.. :P

I value your disgusted attitude, just not your choice of language..btw I am not gay, I just would like to see people start showing a little respect.... take my opinion or leave it..... not meant to make u feel stupid for your comment.

    My windows phone has been stolen while leaving for a minute in Cafeteria. I miss it so much, the UI, the transition animation and yes the stability & accent colors with pure black theme (which is currently trending now in Android ecosystem) and fluid user experience. Windows phone was ahead of time in 2013 Era, in which most of the android phones were look like dumb phone with no better quality. Windows phone was solid and sturdy due to the poly carbonate plastic which didn't feel like cheap, it's kinda matte finish and display was so gorgeous even in sunlight I didn't have to increase the brightness. windows phone could survive but sadly it couldn't.

    I'm thinking of moving to a windows phone. Specifically the nokia lumia 1020. This review makes me feel much better about the decision. And I'm amazed at the positive feedback I've heard from almost everyone who's used a windows phone! I'm slightly disappointed that Cortana doesn't sound like Cortana though. Lol But how minor of a complaint is that!??

      IMO the negative comment mostly comes from
      a)people that haven't really use the platform
      b)people that expecting closed source OS to be on par with open source OS likes android.
      c)people that expecting new ecosystem to have million of apps and each apps that available in long established rival's ecosystem while they keep chasing other potential user and developers away from this platform.

    it's amazing how windows phone still looks stunning in 2022 and how android and iOS are still copying it's features... compare it to android and ios from that time period and it's night and day. such a shame it never succeeded.

  • @LifeofLiam
    @LifeofLiam 10 лет назад +25

    im really tempted by the 8.1 update, i had a windows phone before and got rid of it after 6 months because of the missing features, im currently on my 1st iPhone ever the 5s i used to be on Android well LAG-Droid lol

    • @SutzStaffe89
      @SutzStaffe89 10 лет назад +3

      LAG-Droid? Really? Do you still live in 2011?

    • @LifeofLiam
      @LifeofLiam 10 лет назад +2

      ok, lets be honest, some of the Sony's ive used have lag and a lot of the lower end Android devices still have Lag, for Android to run smooth you need the latest phone out.

    • @SutzStaffe89
      @SutzStaffe89 10 лет назад +4

      Well not quite, you just have to know what to buy... My nexus 4 is almost 2 years old now and is much smoother and considerably faster than my sisters lumia 920 (i am running a very modified version of android) All the newer sony phones i used (eg. Xperia M - low end and Xperia Z - high to mid range) all of them working like a charm... You do need to spend some money on a decent android experience, but if you make and educated purchase, you would be happy... I like wp8 a lot, i just think trashing android has become corny and untrue

    • @LifeofLiam
      @LifeofLiam 10 лет назад +1

      Thats true 9 out of 10 people wont know what decent Android to buy, and my experience with WP8 was a Lumia 620 and i have to give it to them there was never any stutter or lag, the speed was surprising. i have played about with the Z2 and at times there is stutter and tiny bits of lag unlocking it and multi tasking. im not trashing Android, its mainly the phone its running on, plus with Android not every phone gets the latest update, or they get stopped with 4.1 or 4.2 and no further. Android is a good OS but i think they need to be more supportive to lower end devices as thats were most of their user base is.

    • @SutzStaffe89
      @SutzStaffe89 10 лет назад +3

      True, the first decent low end android phone in my country is xperia m, and it costs the same as lumia 525 (which is peanuts money, really), which makes sense because both use the same hardware... I usually recommend wp to my friends if they cant afford full-fat android phone because it works better and more consistantly... Especially to female friends, girls really know how to make a mess out of flagships, let alone budget phones... A few years back you needed a 500-600$ android phone if you wanted smoothness, now you need as little as 200$... As far as the upgrades go, my mates xperia z got 4.4.2... In perspective, my nexus has the same version... It is getting better, not quite there yet, but not bad either

    It was a late update, but it was a good update. I'm finally glad to see these features being offered on the platform now. I don't think they are "trying" to be like iOS or Android, they have to offer the same features or perish like Blackberry. After beta, I think it has a good chance to compete and gain some ground.

    Best things about windows phone 8.1 update and windows phone in general but listed in a random order.
    1.FINALLY getting the action center.
    2. Offline maps. Maps are stored on the device to be accessed anywhere without needing data
    3. Integration with windows 8.1. They sync certain things together between phone and PC/Tablet and the apps in the store will now be basically the same thing across platforms.
    4. Live tiles giving up to date information about what ever the tile deals with such as weather, emails, news, ect...
    5. Cortana, who is more customized towards you and already does much of what Siri and Google Now already do and some stuff they don't but still needs work to listen better, integrate with some apps better, and do more things.
    6. Data sense, Battery Sense, Storage Sense integrated apps that give good information about each one of these things to keep track and to help use your data, battery and storage better.
    7. Wi-Fi sense. This will connect to any open wifi automatically which accepts any terms of agreement. This also allows friends on your contacts to be able to use your secure Wifi automatically without giving them the password.
    8. People app lets you keep all of your contacts in once place and get their social media information in the same place.
    Lots of other good stuff such as the keyboard now timed as the fastest smart phone touch keyboard and lots of nice stuff I have found.

    I would happily switch to Windows Phone as a long standing Android user. But the apps I really need or use are not there. Neither are any alternatives. Everyone starts small. The performance of Windows OS on a phone is top notch. Beautiful really. A hundred odd pounds for a phone that performs like a £600 Android. Once the apps situation improves, I'll make the switch. Right now, can't use it as my daily driver.

    It as soo good if windows phone was able to take over android.
    This is the most trusted company, even the phone is good and midrange and also apps are mid range prices which is good.
    But ios has so high price and also apps are also of high rate.
    This phone could have helped a lot middle class peoples.

    • @94Jyraya
      @94Jyraya 8 лет назад

      Burgerpants It's "finished" now. If you can call a system, that is updated regularly. But it's stable, fast, and beautiful. And it brings so much new functionality to the OS. It is way more better than 8.1
      (I'm talking about 10586.218 and 242, not the fast ring builds. Don't expect a bugless OS on the fast ring, because its purpuse is beta testing...)

    • @DanesZalor
      @DanesZalor 8 лет назад

      Random Drunken Serb so the slow ring build is stable now? or is it the upgrade advisor?

    • @94Jyraya
      @94Jyraya 8 лет назад

      +Burgerpants The slow ring is not stable, because it's on Redstone. But the production build (the one you get with the upgrade advisor) and the release preview rings build are both stable. I'm on the release preview ring with my daily driver Lumia 535, and it runs just as smooth as 8.1 did.

    • @DanesZalor
      @DanesZalor 8 лет назад

      Random Drunken Serb updated with upgrade advisor last week, battery draining fast and most games (such as asphalt 8) still has that touch issue (which wasn't there at windows 8.1). Otherwise, would've been a great os.

    • @94Jyraya
      @94Jyraya 8 лет назад

      Burgerpants Yeah, old Silverlight games are a little bit problematic. But looking at all the new features, the upgrade was a no brainer for me :D

    Its look is so good and charming and also social apps are less which makes me save from facebook addiction. And battery life is also good for windows phone.
    But I think if they could have inserted some games like pubg mobile and cod mobile2 it would have been good.

    Few days into a Lumia 620...gotta say, I'm not missing Android that much; battery life is great, no hiccups whatsoever, smoothness is unbeatable. If I had to pick a mayor let down it would be the apps/games, they had quite some time to catch up and the libraries are still far from impressive.
    By this I don't mean I'm completely ditching Android, I would still preffer it in tablets, as far as IOS...I don't think any kind of upgrade would make me want to switch to it.

      StrickenWithFear What you saw in my screenshot was all done using default tiles. Some developers or strong brands (such as Facebook, Evernote etc) still using their official color but I already see some of developers including the option for transparency tiles in their app. In case the developers doesn't include the transparency tile yet, I just use this app; Transparency Tiles which as the name suggest provides transparency tiles for some popular apps such as Facebook, Foursquare, Here Drive etc.

    I love the new features, this new update is packed and full of improvements. I'm excited to see the new features, the swipe keyboard is amazing, Cortana is awesome it gives you a lot of features and a lot of functionality even though it's just in the beta stage, the action center coupled with the new volume menu gives a lot of convenience and functionality with the notifications, speaking of notifications the messages now have a feature to choose to not get notifications from threads of your choice, the extra row and background picture gives the user extra possibilities to personalize, I like that unlike the smart cam you get the comfort of having a choice between using the buttons or tapping on the screen to take a picture and it has an easy arrangement to switch between functions, the calendar also has a neat feature that also shows weather, and even though it didn't show it here IE is starting to look promising, even though I use chrome IE is starting to entice me with connection between devices, the reading mode gives some convenience, and you can lower the amount of data that pictures use in the browser settings, and I believe you can also do it in the phone settings. With all these enhancements and some I might have not mentioned I still think that even taking certain features that might have slightly changed or supposed undesirable changes into account I'm one happy camper.

    Honestly, I wish they would put some of the features back they got rid of and change the action center. The action center should be swiped to the left when in start menu form, and then pulled down when in an app or on the internet. Other than that I think I might go back to windows. I had the original Windows 7 and I had not issues so maybe I'll go back.

    • @StrickenWithFear
      @StrickenWithFear 10 лет назад

      ***** It's not too inconsistent though. Also I would like something to the left of the screen as well. Why just the start menu, then go right, then pull down? It's strange.

    • @Dare2Blink
      @Dare2Blink 10 лет назад +3

      the problem with swiping from the left is that it would interfere with all the apps that already have swiping from the left (which happens with most apps). The other reason is, as already mentioned, consumer expectation coming from other OS's of finding a notification center on the top.

      android isnt the future of phones but i do think a open source version like cyanogen could be one day. Android is goolge way of pretending to be open source and free, Did you know what windows on phones is now free. I know goggle hasn't done a app and has stoped a you tube app for windows bu and i think you tube is too big and important to the web that no one company should control it like goggle do, remember when Microsoft were forced to l;et in other browsers. Its the shame bs and it needs sorting for every ones best interests. After all google owes its existence to windows 98,98 se, win xp and win 7 without witch they wouldn't be the big business they are today.(because without windows the computing market would be somewhere else today.)
