Excellent video explaining the different nuances. I'm looking into getting a longboard and using a gas leaf blower for thrust 😂 Figure I'll make an adjustable shoulder sling for the blower with a guitar strap and some rope, keep some extra gas in a backpack. I have absolutely NO interest in tricks, ollies, dancing, hills, high speeds, or even carving....just want to casually scoot along and enjoy the ride at a moderately slow pace! After watching your video, I think the most important features for me to look for are a drop down deck and wide trucks for stability, big, soft wheels to smooth out the ride and so that rocks won't be such a problem, and also have the board cutout around the wheels, not that I plan on carving but in case I do need to take a sharp turn I don't have to worry about the wheel rubbing the board. Like others have commented, I'm 40. So I'm not trying to get crazy with it or risk busting my ass. I know you don't recommend cheap Amazon boards, but for my minimalistic intentions I think a $50 board would suffice just fine for getting from point A to B 🤷♂️. I would plan on upgrading/replacing the wheels and bearings, maybe even get all-terrain wheels. I'm not even 100% sure that I'll actually get a longboard, it's all theoretical at this point, but I'm doing my research.
@@NickJonesk8 I haven't gotten one yet but I tested the thrust of the leaf blower by sitting on my neighbor's kid's skateboard and it wasn't strong enough 😭😂 To be fair I was trying from a dead stop because the skateboard was so small that there was no way that 41 year old me had any business trying to actually skate on it with a leaf blower lol.
Awesome video, I really wanted to learn some skateboard tricks but I rode my friends skateboard and on the road it slows down so much so I wanted something that I could cruise with easily but still learn some tricks on so thank you for all the different board information!

Evolve or die I say, finding all this new stuff to be interesting 😆
I am almost 40 and just now getting into longboarding (with my 8 year old son who has a kid's cruiser board). I set my Magneto Bamboo drop through 9"x42" cruiser board with Gullwing Charger 9" 50 degree trucks (with whatever bushings they came with), Blood Orange Morgan Pro 82a wheels and Grizzly Abec 9 bearings. My hope was to have a cruiser that I might be able to learn small slides with to goof off as I'm riding. Any thoughts on this setup based on my philosophy of use? Thanks!
@@NickJonesk8 you see, I used to skate on those skateboards which both of their ends are shaped round and semicircular. There was also a two wheeler board by Razer (I’m not their sponsor) known as the Ripstick skateboard which I used to skate on typically on roadways and sidewalks but not on skateparks due to the lack of balance it gave me. I wasn’t good at doing stunts, but was good enough just how to ride it. The wheels of it are all worn out because of the surfaces I rode on it. Now I’m not a stuntman and never was good at it. I have been teaching her to pull me on a bike for exercise but would love to get a board to get her to pull me on around town. Do you have any suggestions? Thanks!
I really want to cruise and dance. Someone stole my board that was perfect for both but since it was a gift I have no idea what it was. What do you think is best for cruising (not too many hills) and dancing mind you I live in a city
Something a bit longer would be nice for that! Like a dancer board around 44 inches! Loaded Tarab, Timber Bison, Timber Tortuga, Landyacthz Stratus, Moonshine Eclipse, Zenit Joe
I was looking at some longboards by “retrospec” but I heard they have a couple flaws. I wanna get into longboarding but I want a board that is good and not to cheap or expensive.
You’re gonna get what you pay for unfortunately. I’d avoid retrospec, or amazon/Walmart brands. A good board like a landyachtz, Bustin, original, is gonna cost you at least $180 but last a long time. See if anyone near you is selling an old board!
@@NickJonesk8 $180 honestly isn’t bad for a board, I’m gonna see if anyone has some old but good boards but if not, $180 is worth it if the board is gonna last. Thanks for giving me some good brand names to check out and keep up the good work on the vids 👍
