As for me, I use a legitimate sketchbook, pencil, and color pencil set and other odds and ends, because I'm broke and dont have any specific Ipad or anything for digital art even then, all these tips are suuper helpful, thank you so much Pufuu, you are one of the best artists I have seen in my life
@@USB_Cable if you do traditional art you have to keep buying art supplies like paper and pens, and good coloring pens can get pretty darn expensive. On the other hand if you own a pc (which most people do) you can just get a drawing tablet for like 50 dollars or less, get a free drawing program (i personally recommend firealpaca, you can animate with it too) and create art with unlimited colors and paper for absolutely free. The only money youre spending there is the energy youre already using for your computer anyways. And even without that you can literallly just draw on your phone which you probably also already have. ibis paint x is pretty good on that front
@@scribblecloud last I checked my sketchbook was $20, my pencils were $3, and my colored pencils were $5 and when I went searching for a good drawing tablet the cheapest result that looked like it was worth it's while was like $220 somethin but thanks :)

This is actually really helpful! I went and made a Splatoon brush for users on CSP (it's free in the asset store, dw) so none of y'all'd have to suffer through the process of making one. We all can draw these funky cephalopods now. Can't wait to try this out~
I have a pretty bad drawing app rn that I've been using (like *it cuts off parts of things you copy paste and lowers the res so you have to draw over it to make it good again* bad) so I think I'm gonna switch to a new app soon. This vid gave good suggestions for apps (prob gonna use sai) and the techniques, though a lot goes over my head now, I know will be very useful when I get the hang of more complicated apps. Thank you for explaining alpha lock and clipping masks!! My highschool had a digital design class where they DIDNT know about these so my schooling was really bad and it's hard to self teach when you don't know a think you need to be taught exists
Before I got an iPhone and procreate, I used ibisPaintx and I was able replicate the splatoon art style with the default brushes relatively well. It was really hard tho. I would recommend importing custom brushes for ibisPaintx specifically. I hope this helps anyone!
Amazing tutorial, very easy to understand and seeing the art in progress gives such good insight. Now all I need to do is being able to draw, like you... but of course you wouldn't call yourself profreshional even tho you can do THIS.

A lot of people who are not splatoon fans see inklings/octolings like gross squid/octopus kids but what I see when I play splatoon are the cute little inklings and octolings you find in fanart
This is much better than my method, consisting of: 1. Have an entire FLIPPING 3D MODEL OF MY OC 2. Get the model in the pose I want in Blender 3. Screenshot it then open in a drawing app 4. Copy the hell out of my screenshot with the brush on a separate layer

Funny enough, I used to use adobe photoshop mix and adobe illustrator on my acer phone years ago when I first started Splatoon editing.

I always draw on my potato. It's so high quality, incredibly accurate and is extremely precise. I can only recommend.
The potato is so superior, zero lag when drawing on it, plus it comes with a built-in snack feature
@@Pufuu It's basically as responsive as on paper and recyclable. There is no reason why you shouldn't get it.
I think I'll have to get a potato this Christmas 😂
@@Pufuu I got mine a few years ago and it’s still working. Who needs an iPad with Apple Pencil when you can just use a Potato with a breadstick?
personally, I use a banana, but I've expanded and am planning on trying a potato soon. I've heard good things about the potato
