Heya I hope you don't take this too critically, because I adore you and just wanna give you my advice as someone who is very heavily tattooed. But, in the future I strongly suggest finding a better artist. The blowout and shakey lines on this are a huge bummer. I mean my first few tattoos were much much worse, so no real judgement here. But I have learned and I hope you can do better than myself. Regardless of their personal style of tattooing, a truly talented artist is gonna have lines so crisp you'd swear that shit is photoshopped. Really pay attention to their lines when evaluating their portfolios, how smooth they are, how small their willing to go, a great artist is not afraid to use a single point needle in their work. Shading and general style is a lot easier to smudge, but the actual craftsmanship and quality will reveal its self in the details. Don't be afraid to be critical and take you time finding an artist. And sometimes that means being put on a very long wait list to get a piece done, but it is always worth it in the long run. Anyway, super happy for you either way and I hope you enjoy your new mod! I also have a kitty on my arm ❤️

I'd love to offer some advice regarding the healing process. (I have twelve tattoos and am in the process of becoming an apprentice, so know I'm not talking out of my ass.)
Don't lotion your tattoo until it asks for it. You can pull in bacteria from the skin around the tattoo and cause an infection. When it starts to scab up, it's safe to put lotion on. Until then, your skin has enough moisture to keep it healthy and moisturized.
I've done this for over half of my tattoos, and they heal looking like stickers- like you can just peel it off the skin, they're so crisp.
Dude thank you literally last night I thought it was ready and I put lotion on for the first time and it started to bubble a tiny bit so I freaked out and googled it and dabbed it dry!! Definitely gonna be careful and make sure I wait until it's ready now omg my heart stopped I'm trying to be so careful haha

Bunny Crofts if you have a skin condition like eczema, should you add lotion after washing the tattoo and the surrounding skin?
Alli Jade Getting a tattoo when you have eczema or psoriasis can be tricky. There are some things you can do if you really want ink though.
Avoid getting tattooed if (and where) you're having a flare-up. The additional irritation to the skin isn't likely to *trigger* a flare up in most cases, but will definitely add more toxins that your body will have to filter out. So just be patient, schedule around your skin.
This brings me to number two : drink tons of water. Even if you're not thirsty.
Three: A tattoo artist will refuse to tattoo a spot that is actively flaring, so wait for it to go away if you're dead set on a "hot spot."
SO. If you plan accordingly, there shouldn't be active areas near a fresh tattoo. Avoid eczema cream on the healing ink. Once it's healed, you shouldn't have any adverse effects from the medicated cream on the tattoo.
TL;DR After a shower, you'll let the piece air dry, apply lotion to the ink IF it looks a bit dry, but don't pull the lotion in from the skin around it. Isolate the tattoo to moisturize, then you can lotion the skin around it separately.

tattoo artist here. Definitely don't use Neosporin like you said, and don't cover it with anything. don't try to let anything touch it while it scabs, because anything could end up brushing off little flakes. Use a T shirt to dry it not a towel. Towels fibers are loops and can pull at your scab again, even if you gently pat it. Other than that, looking good!

i love the tattoo! but i wouldn't go to that same guy if you want to get another tattoo in the future. you can tell that he probably hasn't been tattooing for very long or maybe he just hasn't had a lot of practice because the line work isn't looking as crisp as it should. i saw some comments saying that you can ask the artist to clean it up for free but please don't! if you want to have it cleaned up, look for another artist who can do it for you or a different shop because that guy's line work isn't super great. it's adorable regardless and you can't tell unless you look really closely but for something that's going to be on your body forever i'm sure you want the best (:

I love the retro 80's look it has, I have a few tattoo ideas, some on my ribs (rip my ribs in the future) but I do plan to get those after I get top surgery. One that I really want is an octopus on my shoulder where the tentacles extend to my clavicles and a medieval knight on an arm with some blue roses

I got my first tattoo when I was 18 on my foot.. it did hurt but mainly because he put me in an awkward af position and do want to re do it up.. but now several years on I have 4 others and only just got another yesterday 🙊 hehe I love your little baby boy tattoo though, sooo cute! And trust me the next one will hurt a lot less haha I've slept through one of my thigh tattoos for a good 4 hours 😜💕🌟💕

+MagiKat Exactly!! It truly truly was manageable and you get super used to it. The fear before hand and like walking into the shop and sitting down in the chair is the scariest part!!!
I have 8 tattoos and I STILL get nervous while I wait for it haha. But honestly if it was that bad, no one would do it over and over again. Even at it's worst, it's still a tolerable pain. Just remember to stay hydrated and keep your potassium levels up! :D Good luck!

I was literally just as dramatic when I got my first tattoo, and that's why it's so important to go to a good supportive artist, I love when my tattoo artist makes jokes to calm me down like yours does.

i know somebody previously told you to keep it dry until it's scabby (which may work for them) but i've always been told to keep it super clean and moisturised (bepanthen is good) for as long as possible, and wrapped in cling film for the first couple nights. all of my tattoos have healed looking almost identical to how they looked fresh, but you'll learn what method suits your body best
It *could* heal fine dry, but that's only if it isn't going to come into contact with anything. The problem with dry healing is that it promotes more scabbing and itching. The scabs are okay only if they don't snag on anything and get torn off. Then you get patches in the color because the color was ripped out with the scab. It's best to keep it moisturized but not too much to where the pores get clogged up and you'll be able to tell if that happens because they'll look like little zits. Just a very thin layer of ointment to where there's a sheen is perfect.

When I got my first tattoo, I was a lil younger than you and I was very nervous and squirmy, and that tattoo is my most blown out and squiggly number. I definitely think you get better at sitting after your first, and then your tattoo quality gets better! You can only go up from here, and honestly I think it's cute and perfect for you!!!

Not the best quality tattoo I've seen, wobbly lines, blow out and patchy but it's adorable how happy you are! Glad you got something that means so much!
I've noticed that and am gonna wait till it's totally healed up to see what it's like :( The blow out is my main concern but the patchiness is spooking me too. My mum has an appt at the same place in November (different artist) so I can mention it to them before then, my friends are saying to go to a different tattoo shop to get it touched up if it needs it but then I would have to pay for it lol where as I sure as hell hope they would fix their mistakes on mine for free or at least less??
It's A Thing that will be on your body forever, though - wouldn't you rather pay for someone to fix it up nice and dandy than go back to the guy who slightly effed up and risk it not being fixed how you want? Good luck whatever you do!
Most tattoo parlors, if you are unhappy with the job, will fix it for free as a respect to the customer. They realize this is going to be on your body forever, and that you paid. They want you to return.
Pixie, if you really are dissatisfied, it's entirely within your reach to ask the artist to clean it up, free of charge.
Word of advice however, next time- really double check, even maybe triple check the photos in the artists portfolio, of the other tattoo's they've done for people. Look super hard, and be 100% thorough. I'm sure you did look, but it doesn't hurt to really knitpick the details.
One of the things to know is that lining in color is a difficult thing to pull off (not impossible, but it's not a thing all artists can do). If you feel like there is an artist there that could do a better job, then definitely go to them and have them fix it for you. If you find someone at the shop, then that's great you can get it done for free/discounted. However, it is worth it to pay for another shop to "fix" any problems you have with your tattoo since it's on your body for the rest of your life and it means something special to you. Don't devalue that. I highly recommend a "new school" style artist because they will definitely know how to punch up the colors (even if it's pastel) and give you more of what you are going for. Traditional tattooers generally don't have the same skill set as a portrait or watercolor tattooer. It's so worth it to spend weeks finding an artist you are willing to stick with, especially if you plan on getting more tattoos in the future. (Edit: not trying to imply you didn't do your research and I'm not sure how you picked your particular artist, but this information can be useful if you don't know already.)

Mine heals up within 2 weeks. Make sure to be careful during the scabbing process cuz that's when you could loose some color and vibrancy.
