I made a couple of visits to Curitiba for work (UFPR), spending a couple of months there total. I loved the city. Nice small and modest sized restaurants along most streets and street corners. Many beautiful parks, big and small, were a pleasure to spend time at. Nice shopping malls. The people are very friendly and welcoming. When not with business colleagues, I struggled a bit due to my lack of Portuguese, but I was able to overcome the language barrier. Whenever I found a place to relax and enjoy a futbol match, I was always befriended by the local fans who recognized or asked if I was American. Sports often transcends language barriers. The Familia Madaoloso restaurant was a very nice experience. With a nice atmosphere and a wide variety of good foods and a nice souvenir shop across the street from the entrance. Another favorite was Confeitaria Holandesa, which has delicious breakfast pastries and coffee. I've spent a lot of time in Rio and Floripa as well, both of which I also love. Curitiba definitely ranks up there with these two cities. Each with distinct differences, but overall all wonderful places to visit. And oh by the way, I always felt safe walking around the many parts of the Centro Curitiba, always mindful of staying clear of places that may not be safe in big cities. So good to see the recognition the city deserves, I also noticed you experienced our typical rainy weather around :-) I'm glad you had a great time, until the next visit!!
This was a great tour of a city I'd ever heard of until you mentioned you were going there. Now that you've shown it in this video I'm very impressed. As usual a wonderful video. I can't imagine how a restaurant could go from 14 seats to 4600+ but the quality of the food obviously ha a lot to do with it.
*I think* that they grew because they had contract to supply food to some orgs (like Army, etc...) , also because in the region there are lots of business and also the "big corps" rent the restaurant for "end of year dinner" (some almost "close" the restaurant) and also people rent rooms for marriage party, graduation party. Don't know if they rent for anniversary (never saw one). From mid 80's until 2000 at least once per year I had dinner there (my father's employer's "end of year party" and also marriages, etc...).
So good you came to Curitiba! I was born here and i am very proud of everytihing i saw in this video. Thanks for that! I live nearby Madalosso, and I also think that more people should come to our city! Oh, by the way, my little business was shown at 5:00 at the panoramic tower! Thank you again!!!
Thank you so much, Alina, for showing some hidden gems in Brazil to the world. If you were to stay there in the winter, you would be able to feel real cold, since it’s the coldest capital in the country, something that most people from abroad don’t know also. Very nice video as usual.
@@AlinaMcleod yeah, in the autumn it starts to get a little bit chilly. Most people think Brazil is only a tropical country, but since it’s so big it has some areas where it’s cold. Of course, not as much as you are used to in Canada.

So happy to see a video about my hometown! I´ve been living over 4 years in Portugal and I miss Curitiba! Great video and really different from the typical tourist videos where people only visit Rio and nowhere else. Brazil is so diverse and offers so much more than the typical "tourist circuit"!
Bons tempos. / Hi Alina, I was sure you would love Curitiba very much. It's a lovely city, everything seems to work very well, it's clean, organized and beautiful. Nightlife is also very interesting, with excellent options, especially bars with live music, restaurants and nightclubs. People in Curitiba may not be as welcoming as they are in Rio, Salvador or Porto Alegre, but they make up for it with a lot of friendliness and politeness. And, in my day, we used to joke that after eating at Madalosso, people had to go for a run at Parque Barigui, to try to lose some of the weight they gained. Good times.

Heeey, local over here! I am so glad to see someone actually visiting and talking about Brazilian cities that are not just Rio and São Paulo. I was born in Curitiba and I have been living here all my life and it really is a city full of potential, good infrastructure, and diversity. From your video I don't know if you have been to some other incredible places here, but here goes some suggestions: Guaíra Theater, there is always something going on there, ballet, music concerts, theater plays; we have the old city hall that is Paço da Liberdade, it is a museum now and a place to host lectures, a library and also the historic architecture facade is used as a stage for many holliday events, such as christmas recitals, etc; Tanguá Park, where there is a huge and beautiful waterfall and cave; we have an Egyptian museum, which is a bit small but with an actuall mummy in display; a Holocaust Museum; the Japan Square, which is amazing! I spent a lot of time there while growing up; we have a lot of theaters and every year we have the Curitiba Theater Festival, that is the biggest theater festival in the country, with street plays, concerts, workshops, a lot of events. I hope you are able to come here more often, there is a whole lot of things to enjoy in a regular basis. Just remember to be careful, it is not Rio but still the levels of violence have been increasing throughout Brazil itself! Thanks for sharing those experiences! It is amazing to learn about Rio's Carnival but we have an incredible diversity of cultures in our country, it is always nice to have foreigners being interested in seeing (and showing!) that too!
Glad you picked someone from the city to guide you. Also, there is an amazing tourist bus that goes to the places you've been and to many of the other attractions in the city, I highly recommend it. We have great rock'n roll bars in the central region, night clubs in the Batel neighborhood and great pubs on Itupava street.

Be careful, don't come to Brazil if you love your life! At any moment you can die here! The violence here is extremely high!
Yes, it’s crazy how big it is. Of course they do a lot of events.
@@AlinaMcleod please marry me QUEEN of beauty I'm ready to accept your religion
It's not only one restaurant, it's a "complex". In this video she shows only a little part. It has +7000m2.
But I prefer one certain competitor across the street 😂😂😂.
I am African living in Brazil ; your city is one of the most racist cities in Brazil.
Thank you so much, Alina, for showing some hidden gems in Brazil to the world. If you were to stay there in the winter, you would be able to feel real cold, since it’s the coldest capital in the country, something that most people from abroad don’t know also. Very nice video as usual.
Thank you. It was quite chilly some days when I was there.
@@AlinaMcleod yeah, in the autumn it starts to get a little bit chilly. Most people think Brazil is only a tropical country, but since it’s so big it has some areas where it’s cold. Of course, not as much as you are used to in Canada.
@@luke83rj Brazil it's not 100% tropical but for 70% probably cuz in the South and Southeast parts of Brazil has a subtropical climate..

Yet another first class video of Brazil..amazing job Alina 👏 👏 thank you so much ❤
My pleasure, glad you liked it ☺️
Your commentaries are honestly so pleasant, you explain so well and have such a great talent for expressing your thoughts
I was born in this wonderful city and have been living abroad for a few years now. How I miss my country. Thanks for bringing back great memories from there.
Alina thank you for coming and showing our city, I am a Curitiba guy and we really loved live here and we loved received people of other countries and other cultures here!!
Thank you so much!
Thank you very much Alina for sharing your awesome reports across Brazil. This city is really beautiful and elegant and its pedestrian streets truly nice. Thanks to your videos we may know many magnificent places which, before, were unknown and Brazil never ceases to amaze us with its wonders. Ukraine is always in our hearts and we hope for the best.
Thank you so much, Gabriella!
Curitiba is one those best kept secrets .Harriet and I were there as well. Our friend Pedro's mother and father live there. It's one of those cities in the south that gets missed. Hi Alina,
I had my dose of meditation watching your video showing Curitiba. Thank you so much.
I loved seeing Mrs Madalosso. My family always went there for Sunday lunch at their restaurant and family functions throughout my childhood before I moved to Europe. I had no idea she’s still kicking and looks incredibly well. Bless her.
I love Curitiba and you’ve shown it beautifully.
Praying for you and your family particularly those in Ukraine 🇺🇦 and everyone in the middle of this senseless war. Peace 🇺🇦 🇧🇷 🇨🇦 🇬🇧

Miss Aline, I worked in 26 countries and I know hundreds of cities! however, CURITIBA, PARANÁ is what I defined as the best and most important in the world!!!
Alina, Alina, you touch my heart by being so kind to my city. Obrigado!
My pleasure!
I was born and raised in Curitiba, most of us don't see our own city through a tourist point of view, It's a beautiful city Sunny, cloudy, rainy and windy in mater of hours. Great people but kinda quiet and respectful compared to other Brazilian way.
Other brazilians are as respectful as curitibanos are.
hi alina! curitiba is truly a hidden gem. The city is very beautiful, green and cozy, besides being safe.
The Ukrainian memorial church is actually a replica of another one located in the interior of the state of Parana. And the museum was voted one of the 20 most beautiful in the world!
Thanks, Larissa!
I love Curitiba, the "ecological capital" of Brazil. Great video, congrats!
The weather seems so pleasant. I live in Northern New York minutes to the Canadian border. We had snow yesterday on Easter morning and tonight we are expecting more snow. I love our seasonal weather but snow is tiresome. Have a peaceful day
Our climate is very bipolar, we're currently in Fall, but temperatures are already Winter-like, some days are very pleasant but some are gruesome 😂
@@rafaelasabchucalovato9439 I love that term bipolar for weather. Our winter temp can fall very often to minus 20 degrees or if I’m correct -29 degrees Celsius. 🥶☃️

This is my first time hearing of this city. This is a nice place thanks for sharing your journey.
Good times.

I love this hometown of mine. Spent 5 months in Toronto and couldn't bear being away from my city any longer. Homesick, for sure.
I leave here since I was born, and I know every part of this city like no one, I had friends in every neighborhood, so I used to go everywhere by bus since I was like 12 y old. I see people visiting but everytime they miss something. This place is one of a kind in the world. I would need more than 10 days to show you every special place out here and enjoy like we do.
So much fun to watch, so many different kind of things to see! Feels like being on tour oneself ! :)
