Can you suggest other safe Brazilian cities where the locals are fluent in English? I've heard that the higher the level of education of the locals in Brazil, the better their English proficiency.
Florianopolis is a special place for me. I visited in the late 90s and whilst there I decided that when I could I would live a life of travel, going from my home in the UK to FL overland (as much as possible) via Europe, Asia, Australasia and the continent of America. Okay - it is many years later, but I am on that journey now. A slow start (because of the pandemic) and still in Europe - but at least I am on my way!
My goodness!! 🤩All I can say, without a doubt, is that Brazil is a countless source of beautiful sceneries, beaches, nature, color, and beauty everywhere you go.

@@AlinaMcleod Buy and uses "inseticida" (like "SBP Multi inseticida" - orange color, buy in any market), pass it in your sleeping room +- 20 minutes before bed *every day* . I think an insect bit you. *Always* travel with an "inseticida" (and also a "repellent")👍
I traveled to Brazil in 2014 for the World Cup. Got to see a lot of places in and around the country. Have to say Floranopolis was great but so were many of the other places in that country. There are many incredible beaches and such unique geography along that Atlantic coast. Of course the people and their cuisine were marvelous as well. Enjoying your videos ... Cheers!

Florianopolis is the best kept secret in the South of Brasil. The natives know about it. Most tourists from around the world don't think about Florianopolis. They think Rio and Sao Paulo. The hidden gems are what Harriet and I love to explore. We had such a lovely time on the beaches and did forgo downtown. We hope to return there next March. Great Memories! Florianopolis is the Brazilian equivalent of Interlaken. Its surrounded by mountains, its a tourist getaway and it offers the experience of a lifetime. You might say its kind of the gateway to what you can discover in Brazil!

The fact that I live here makes the whole difference for I’ve never needed to look for a place to stay. As for urgencies in case of an accident or other you’ll fine excellent ones; Hospital Caridade, Hospital Universitário are public ones. SOS Cardio or Baía Sul are private and rather expensive ones. Wish you all a pleasant stay in beautiful « Ilha da Magia ».

Hi Alina, my husband and I are from Brasil and we're watching this exact video of yours right now. By what you described feeling and judging by the redness of your body, I believe you got sunstroke (or heat stroke). This happened to myself in a close by beach to Floripa. Unfortunately, this type of thing happens and the best advice is to drink lots of water and if you can buy an aloe vera cream (it's usually green gel), keep it in the fridge and apply to where you got sun burn. Trust me, it helps a lot! My husband and I are loving your blog's in Brasil, especially your vide in Curitiba, our home town. Good luck on all your travels. Cheers

Is there a way to do therapy for a beach addiction? Glad you toughed it out through the fever. We were just there a couple of weeks ago. Stayed on the beach at Barra da Lagoa. It is a wonderful place, just as you described, and many, many sea food restaurants. I never been to the other places you described, so I could not compare. But, we enjoyed the stay there.
I haven't been to Florianópolis yet but I guess I'll have to add it to my list. Hope you had a good time in Brazil overall Alina , and have fun in Mexico!
Being from Argentina, Florianopolis was our greatest summer destination back in the 80s. We used to go to Cachoeria do Bon Jesus, Lagoinha, and Canasvieiras. Incredible beaches and also de morros (mountains). Great memories.
Well done vlog. I've been to Floripa four times. Canasvieiras is the beach of my choice. I can never get enough. So much to see and do. It is also a good central point to visit Balneário Camboriú, Blumenau, and Guarda do Embaú. HAPPY TRAVELS!
Chicungulha virus mosquitos we received as a gift from foreigners coming from Africa during the 2014 Soccer World Cup that was held in Brazil. Started mainly in the Northern east of Brasil and came down to other states. Now it is seasonal and edemic infections every year with high infections during summer. Take care. Brazil is beautiful but still a tropical country with many tropical deseases that common Brazilians are used to protect from this kind of inconveniences! Take care! Good videos.

@@AlinaMcleod Brazil has a free and quality public health system (sometimes you have to wait a while), but everything is free and of good quality. go in one Posto de Saúde. Tourists are also served free of charge by the SUS (public health system in Brazil)

Alina, thanks for sharing your trip. You're really having fun. I want to give you a tip about travelling in Brazil. Pay attention to dehydration. It is cloudy but is very hot, and you can quickly dehydrate. And the symptoms that you described look like you had dengue fever. If you have red spots and points on your skin and a terrible pain like a migraine, probably had dengue, the next time, find a hospital or health center; there is not the most enjoyable place, but it is "free."

Hey, from Clearwater but live in Floripa now for 2 years after living in the north Recife The island is very pretty and a good place to stay in the summer (but expensive as hell then) $100/day Biggest prob is the COLD OCEAN, it never warms up like in Florida, lucky if it gets to 65f The Argentinians think it's WARM compared to their ocean temps tho
Floripa has a very cult neighborhood called Santo Antônio de Lisboa. a Portuguese colonial neighborhood. many others, bakery with typical Portuguese sweets. and it's where you can see the best sunset on the island (if the clouds don't get in the way)
One of the best places to visit in Florianópolis is the North of the Island, mainly Praia de Ingleses (The Englishes Beach). And also in the North: Jurerê and Canas Vieiras.
I’m glad the Jet Lag Warriors gave you the tip to travel to Floripa, it’s a beautiful and magical island! It’s one of the 3 capitals in Brazil located in an Island, the other two being Vitória and São Luís.
Hi Alina, Florianopolis is the best state capital of Brazil, no doubt about it. But the video missed some must-see places, such as: - Pontal da Daniela, from where you can see the bridge and sensational sunset - The neighborhood and beach of Jurerê Internacional - The Fort (Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa), Open Shopping - the Fort has an incredible view on sunny days, especially in the morning, and also has a tranquil beach - The sunset view of the sea over Canajurê beach, next to the marinas, is also breathtaking - The stunning sunrise at Ingleses do Norte beach and the trail to Brava - The Hercílio Luz bridge, the new airport - Lagoinha do Leste - Campeche Island and Campeche beach

Hi Aline. I live in Floripa and I am a "Manézinho" full blood. Barra da Lagoa is one of my favourite spots, but it's really not the best place for eating out. The best restaurants for seafood are in Santo Antonio de Lisboa. Another thing to consider is that each neighborhood is more like a small city within a city. It's actually difficult to find a place to live here as all neighborhoods have something cool to offer. My favourite places are: 1. Barra da Lagoa 2. Santo Antonio de Lisboa (where I live currently) 3. Naufragados 4. Campeche You also need to know another city, which is located 70km away from Florianópolis called Garopaba. Check for Praia do Rosa and Praia da Ferrugem. You can thank me later :)

B Camboriu SUCKS, it's stupid expensive, NO parking, lousy beach, dirty silty water, full of arrogant people, SKIP IT !

We were just there a couple of weeks ago. Stayed on the beach at Barra da Lagoa. It is a wonderful place, just as you described, and many, many sea food restaurants. I never been to the other places you described, so I could not compare. But, we enjoyed the stay there.

Being from Argentina, Florianopolis was our greatest summer destination back in the 80s. We used to go to Cachoeria do Bon Jesus, Lagoinha, and Canasvieiras. Incredible beaches and also de morros (mountains). Great memories.

Well done vlog. I've been to Floripa four times. Canasvieiras is the beach of my choice. I can never get enough. So much to see and do. It is also a good central point to visit Balneário Camboriú, Blumenau, and Guarda do Embaú. HAPPY TRAVELS!
Chicungulha virus mosquitos we received as a gift from foreigners coming from Africa during the 2014 Soccer World Cup that was held in Brazil. Started mainly in the Northern east of Brasil and came down to other states. Now it is seasonal and edemic infections every year with high infections during summer. Take care. Brazil is beautiful but still a tropical country with many tropical deseases that common Brazilians are used to protect from this kind of inconveniences! Take care! Good videos.

Florianópolis is one of the most beautiful places in Brazil, I am from São Roque - São Paulo, city of wine, the coast of São Paulo is very beautiful, you will also visit Ubatuba and Ilhabela is beautiful, also the best time is January to March.

I want to give you a tip about travelling in Brazil. Pay attention to dehydration. It is cloudy but is very hot, and you can quickly dehydrate. And the symptoms that you described look like you had dengue fever. If you have red spots and points on your skin and a terrible pain like a migraine, probably had dengue, the next time, find a hospital or health center; there is not the most enjoyable place, but it is "free."
As she didn't say anything about headache, I suspect Zika or Chikungunya

Hey, from Clearwater but live in Floripa now for 2 years after living in the north Recife
The island is very pretty and a good place to stay in the summer (but expensive as hell then) $100/day
Biggest prob is the COLD OCEAN, it never warms up like in Florida, lucky if it gets to 65f
The Argentinians think it's WARM compared to their ocean temps tho
Floripa has a very cult neighborhood called Santo Antônio de Lisboa. a Portuguese colonial neighborhood. many others, bakery with typical Portuguese sweets. and it's where you can see the best sunset on the island (if the clouds don't get in the way)

One of the best places to visit in Florianópolis is the North of the Island, mainly Praia de Ingleses (The Englishes Beach). And also in the North: Jurerê and Canas Vieiras.

Hi Alina, Florianopolis is the best state capital of Brazil, no doubt about it. But the video missed some must-see places, such as:
- Pontal da Daniela, from where you can see the bridge and sensational sunset
- The neighborhood and beach of Jurerê Internacional
- The Fort (Fortaleza de São José da Ponta Grossa), Open Shopping - the Fort has an incredible view on sunny days, especially in the morning, and also has a tranquil beach
- The sunset view of the sea over Canajurê beach, next to the marinas, is also breathtaking
- The stunning sunrise at Ingleses do Norte beach and the trail to Brava
- The Hercílio Luz bridge, the new airport
- Lagoinha do Leste
- Campeche Island and Campeche beach

Hi Aline. I live in Floripa and I am a "Manézinho" full blood. Barra da Lagoa is one of my favourite spots, but it's really not the best place for eating out. The best restaurants for seafood are in Santo Antonio de Lisboa. Another thing to consider is that each neighborhood is more like a small city within a city. It's actually difficult to find a place to live here as all neighborhoods have something cool to offer.
My favourite places are:
1. Barra da Lagoa
2. Santo Antonio de Lisboa (where I live currently)
3. Naufragados
4. Campeche
You also need to know another city, which is located 70km away from Florianópolis called Garopaba. Check for Praia do Rosa and Praia da Ferrugem. You can thank me later :)
You are near Balneário Camboriú. Should check there
