A year ago my dad shot and killed himself. It’s hard to believe now that’s my story. While it’s the ending to a story about a father that didn’t want anything to do with his son anymore, this video is not for him or for his memory. Because I forgive him. This video is for a new story, a new beginning for me, for him.
With this new beginning I see so much of myself in you, and it makes me wonder. Wonder what my life would have turned out like if I had a dad around. Now because of you, my son, I can get answers to all these questions. And give you everything I grew up without.
This video was inspired by Peter McKinnon's video titled "For her." I didn't expect it to turn into what it has. In fact it wasn't even supposed to include my dad in the story. But when I dove into what I really wanted to express this is what came out of it. This is me and a little look into my thoughts. I hope you enjoyed it and got something out of it.
I had the chance to work with some of my best buddies on this one. It was the collaboration that brought this story to life. It wouldn't have been what it is without the help from Zane O'Gwin, James Terry, and Jack Mergist. Thank you so much guys for all your help.

Damn, couldn’t even make it through the first half of the video before the tears started coming. I know the feeling of having egotistical parents and see them choose themselves before you, that’s why I’m forced to spend christmas all alone this year. As I’m sitting in front of this fireplace called youtube trying to find some warmth for my soul, this video of yours gave me a good portion of heat and filled me with love. Thanks! The world needs more people like you! 💖💞💝 I had such a hard time when I wrote this message, I felt like the most lonely person on earth. It’s been a couple of months since then and even though I have had no contact with my parents since then I’m in such a better place emotionally and I’m so much stronger and I have survived the worst time of my life. I feel hope and happiness in life and I know life goes on anyways and new people will come in my life. Maybe this falling out with my parents wont be forever but I will survive in either case and have a great life, Im sure of that! This is sooo heartfelt but when you see yourself in your son, you start understand that there were circumstances you weren't able to control!! It makes you a stronger man!!! Your son looks up at you with perfect little eyes, doesn't judge you because in his little world, YOU ARE HIS 💯 WHOLE WORLD.

Tyson, You did this video so well. I have been watching from the almost very first vlog! Your a great Dad and I see that you love your beautiful wife so much. Saying that you forgive is saying a lot. That is how you can heal from so much hurt. You’ve got this Tyson ! Nixon and the next children to come are vert blessed.
This was touching for me and my family.. my Dad wasn’t present in much of our lives either. I’m thankful that today I can say things have changed (after much trial and hurt) and he is finally a father I can rely on. We won’t be perfect, but we sure will do our best to give them everything we dreamed of as a child so they won’t have to feel that painful neglect. I’m sorry you had to go through that heartbreak too.

Tyson suicide has touch my family a couple of times. It is devastating to the people left behind. Our family has not fully recovered yet but we are on our way. This is such a beautiful and positive way to bring awareness to this awful epidemic .

Just know that you did nothing. Depression is a mental thing. It makes you think things that aren't real or have feelings about yourself that isn't true. It was all just too hard. But none of it was you. Suicide seems so selfish but the pain is real to those who suffer. I know as a parent that your daddy loved you. It was the mental that got him. Not suicide. ❤️
