    For those of you asking about a sealer. Earth Safe Finishes sells a sealer that is safe for the candlemaking process. It's $18.95 for 8 ounces. Larger sizes are available.
    Wickid Candle uses Cheng Concrete Sealer, available on Amazon for $32.95 for a 17 ounce bottle.

    I so didn’t know you can just use paint! I’ve used plaster as a lightener before then added red paint but the vessel was too light weight for my liking. Now I started using titanium dioxide and a bunch of paint and it’s too tedious to get the right measurements without wasting too much product. Thank you so much for this video!!!!!

    Just wondering, wouldn't it be easier on your arms and you would get a better mix using say a small paint stirrer which you can attach to an electric drill? I reckon over a period of time it would save you a ton of time as well.

    • @WizeOwlCandles
      @WizeOwlCandles  2 года назад

      Hi! I actually do use my drill with a stirring attachment for larger orders. However in my opinion for smaller orders I find the paint stick to be more efficient and easier cleanup :) but everyone is different so whatever works for that person works

      crumbly concrete is either too much or not enough water. cement curing is a exothermic chemical reaction. the water is the catalyst. Don't think of cement as "drying out" like mud. not enough water will cause it to cure unevenly and crack. too much water can cause the components to "go off" before they have made good bonds with neighboring particles, which makes it turn to coarse sand powder at the slightest touch

    I love your containers! You’re such an inspiration! Thank for explaining in such detail! I am wondering about your sealant...it looks amazing it sounds like it works like a dream...I know you’ve tested it with your candle flames and a heat gun, what I’m wondering is when the sealant heats up due to the burning candle, does it give off any dangerous fumes? How would you test that or find out about that?

    • @WizeOwlCandles
      @WizeOwlCandles  3 года назад +5

      Hi Jennifer, Good question! So other than the flame test I also tested my candles while they were burning. Once the candle is burned all the way through you can still see the sealant on the inside of the candle. The wax I use is 100% soy wax so it has a low temperature of melting (it doesn't get as hot as normal paraffin candles). So the sealant is not seeping into the candle and releasing into the air :)
      A lot more research went into why I chose Polycrylic but I hope that helps answer your question :) thanks for watching!

      I put my labels on the bottom. I haven't had any issues with them coming off. It sticks to the sealant. Polycrylic does seem to be waterproof from my testing. But make sure you always do your own testing :)

    Thank you for sharing your process! Just curious, what are the benefits of a soy candle vs a regular candle you can buy at a store?

    • @WizeOwlCandles
      @WizeOwlCandles  3 года назад +6

      Soy candles are made from soybeans and most store bought candles (if they don't say soy, coconut, etc) is made from paraffin (petroleum). Some people can have respiratory issues while burning normal candles with paraffin wax. With soy wax there are no additives so it doesn't bother a lot of people. :) There are a lot of benefits. I will be posting a new video with this soon!

    Question, after you use the sealer and you make the candle, does your candle wax seam through the concrete or does the sealant protect that from happening? thats my issue with my candles, once it starts burning the wax goes through the cement and i can see it from the outside

    • @WizeOwlCandles
      @WizeOwlCandles  3 года назад

      Personally it took a lot of trial and error to not have that happen. In my opinion it's a combo of your concrete mixture for the container, the sealant and how it was applied, and also the type of wax you use and fragrance oil. Just keep resting new things and you will find your perfect combination
