  • NEW DRUMS ONLY Video here :- • Video
    *This video simply shows what the plugins sound like the moment you load them up, it's not a scientific test. Afterall the possibilities to tweak are almost completely endless.......but this is where you start from*
    So I was working on a new tune and thought i'd take a look at the drum plugins I have aswell as take a look at the Van 51 amp in Guitar Rig 5
    See what you think, what your favourite?

    I love Studio Drummer by Native it sounds so natural.
    I've got Superior drummer 2.0 with almost all the expansions and I think Superior has the best engine in terms of alternating samples so multiple hits do not sound robotic.
    Studio drummer samples can sound as if they triggered from an electronic kit, especially obvious on the toms.
    However, Superior Drummer samples sound somewhat retro or destined for rock/indie/metal. You can use Studio Drummer for anything.
    Thanks for the demo.

    jesus, could you compress the first track a bit more? I think you were only using a 1000:1 ratio.

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  12 лет назад +1

    @myopeia Everything is at default from loading it up.
    Even the drum loops are partly from the Diabolic addictive drum midi pack.
    I have no reason to favour any plugin as I use them all during almost every project.
    This isn't a scientific test it's just a very short and quick one shot comparison.

  • @TruthSurge
    @TruthSurge 11 лет назад +1

    That's not a bad ratio but I usually prefer ETERNITY : 1. Works for me.

    Personally loved the Addictive. Studio was close second

  • @Harrysound

    This year NI updated the Abbey Road series to have a groove library and options exactly like the Studio Drummer plugin.
    So essentially the difference is down to the actual kits and style of the groove library
    . I have to say Modern Drummer is slightly limited for myself and I haven't found a use for it yet.
    Studio Drummer has 3 kits that are a good mix of styles so i'd go for that personally.
    If you look at my Jordin Sparks or Mordin video on my channel I used Studio Drummer for those..

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  12 лет назад

    Yeah I have all the Abbey Road plugins and used the 60s Drums on my song Atoms.
    With a little tweak there are an extremely powerful set of plugins.

    For this tune, I think Slate's tone fits the best. They also felt the most realistic by a margin, but the biggest thing was just that that particular kit was a good match for the song too.

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  13 лет назад

    @KurtDn You can process all you like but sometimes you need to hear what it sounds like out of the box to make sure that starting point is the right one for you.

  • @makdrumz
    @makdrumz 10 лет назад +3

    Studio and Modern Drummer for me :) Best snare and cymbals.

  • @myopeia
    @myopeia 12 лет назад

    Yeah, something is definitely wrong with how the AD sounds in this video. Not saying it was intentional, but this is not how AD sounds out of the box. I'm not saying it's the best out of all these, but it sounds way better out of the box than it does in this video. I would re-check everything (buses, etc...).

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  12 лет назад

    @fizzlefresh14 nope, there's a large number of ways you can use these plugins. keyboard, v drums, drum pad, computer keyboard, offline key editing ...

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  12 лет назад

    @chimptor50 Everything here was stock. Your absolutely correct you can get way way better results from spending many hours tweaking but for the purpose of being fair and unfair at the same time I showed what they sound like when you first load them up....
    SS sounds better because it sounds better out of the box, they're mix ready samples and are better suited to this kind of music anyway.
    The drum loop is from Addictive Drums itself so you'll have to blame them if you don't like the drummer.

  • @GuitarsNBanging
    @GuitarsNBanging 13 лет назад

    all of them sound good, you can mix up between them as well. steven slate drumkit is a little tighter on the bass and snare which sounds better for metal i like it

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  12 лет назад

    @BreakingDownStudio I didn't do any mixing here :-) there are other mixed songs on my channel, I'm not good at it but I know what you mean :-)

  • @rhythmantic
    @rhythmantic 12 лет назад

    I own all of these plugins and more and there isn't one that does it all. Each are suited for certain music and mixes. The Steven Slate 4.0 sounds better than the v3.5 demoed here. Depends on how the plug-in is used, and for triggering AD does very well with the various dynamic levels and their INDIE kit sounds great.

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  13 лет назад

    @GuitarsNBanging Yeah i'm more on the Steven Slate side of things though I love the sound of the toms and cymbols in Studio Drummer.
    Addictive drums is the best for jamming but to until native instruments sorts out some midi packs for Studio Drummer.

      I have both...uhmmm no.. It does have its strong points...but SSD beats it over all. But since I have both I can mix and match...even layer. Fancy, I know.

  • @angeriod
    @angeriod 12 лет назад

    But i really like the punchy feel in steven slate drums! SSD is more for hard rock and metal and addictive drums and studio drummer is such is more for softer rock, hard rock and such. But SSD also has softer rock kits

  • @tyfleguitar1987
    @tyfleguitar1987 12 лет назад

    SSD sounds less realistic because they are mix ready. Slate has beefed up the drums ready to be put straight into a track. The others you will have to add fx to get the desired sound you want.

  • @Likui
    @Likui 13 лет назад

    @Harrysound I'm thinking of getting that set up too, steven slate for snare and kick , studio drummer for the rest

  • @chimptor50
    @chimptor50 12 лет назад

    The problem I'm having with your comparison is I own AD and I know they sound better out of the box than what is represented here. I'm thinking about getting SS cause I really like what what I'm hearing from his program. Having said that I still think this was a skewed taste test. JMHO man.

  • @KurtDn
    @KurtDn 13 лет назад

    ahahah so what do you mean?
    ssd - already processed drums,to be used
    abbey roads - a bit of effects on pre recording ,but need some processes
    and addicive drums - just a naked sound that need to process..
    all this drums a still different and cant be compared
    its like a differents between 3 not similar guitar amps like mesa,fender or engl

  • @angeriod
    @angeriod 12 лет назад

    Addictive drummer and studio drummer have really nice crashes and hi hats. Studio drummer is realistic same with addictive drums! SSD have really nice sounds but not the most realistic! SSD doesnt have best hi hats, cymbals and such but nice snare and kick. But im really liking addictive drums and studio drummers snare its realistic

    Does Studio drummer use round-robin for sample playback? If so there is most likely an option to turn this on and off, no?

  • @Harrysound
    @Harrysound  12 лет назад

    If your using Stale Drums 3.5 you can set the number of variations for each instrument under the settings tab for each kit piece.
    OR you could go into your midi editor where you have your drums and just pull all the MIDI values to 127 if you want no dynamics whatsoever.
    In some plugins you can also set the minimum value and the maximum value of the velocity of the MIDI.

    My favorited drum programs, Addictive drums, steven slate drums and superior drummer. addictive drums sound real realstic same with superior drummer. Steven slate has real good rock and hard rock kits. Has real good snare, toms and kick. I havnt researched any other program.

    nice comparison, but a bit wrong of drum types, addictive drum in this video seems a bit flat, as I use addictive drum for my tracking there are a lot of fat kick and snare but you didnt pick them up. for slate digital feel so sweet in rock style but feel a bit unnatural to my ears. studio drummer also the best for all kind of genres.

  • @Fitzliputzli23

    Would be a better comparison with the drum tracks only. To my ears SSD sounds less realistic than the others. I don't like the attack in the kick at all. My favorite is Abbey Road, it has the richest most natural sound. Second is AD, but it sounds a little flat in your recording.

    For some reason, studio drummer sounds fake (doesn't mean it's a bad sound), but addictive drums 2 is just so versatile, cymbals sound fantastic and overall realer drum tracks. Would have went for SD3 but that shit is over 250GB of samples and extra 55GB for idk what

    I have addictive drums and it`s a shame I tell u with the snares. It sounded the worst here snares it also don`t have metal kicks But the ambient on the kit fits this beat u used. I would use the snare and the kick from Steven Slate and put them on AD and would be perfect kit with that ambient.

    @Drumaddict63 I think I have at some stage. I own all these plugins though and i'm not keen on getting anymoore.
    Alot of people use SD I personally really love Steven Slate when you set it up and map it properly.
    I'm liking Studio Drummer more and more though so A mixture of the Steven Slate snare and kicks with Studio Drummers Cymbols and Toms could be a winner.

    They all sound pretty bad as they are. I find that these drum sample players can often be much improved simply by applying a single limiter plugin to the full kit mix. For this I tend to use the Waves L1 Limiter, but no doubt others will work well too.

    You obviously do not know how to mix or play drums. AD are great and extreemly versatile, you can tweek each individual drum and cymbal to sound exactly the way you want. Use your ears man and try to tweak it some. It sounds like you threw up the AD and did nothing but with the SS you tweaked it to skew the outcome same with NISD! This was not a fair conpareison. Put all three up, same vol, 0 eq and let er rip!
