Metal Drum VST Shootout - 1 drum beat vs. 8 Drum Plugins

  • Опубликовано: 15 июл 2024
  • I opened up 8 different drum plugins in their default mode to see which VST could handle this drum performance the best!
    / skip_1990
    No extra mixing, EQ or processing was added to the drums except for matching their volumes to be a similar level and a limiter on the master bus to bring overall performance to a commercial volume.
    The drumbeat was created with various EzDrummer MIDI packs and then edited to suit each drum plugin.

    This is very eye opening. I've bought a lot of EZDrummer products, and the Death Metal kit is definitely one if the best. And yet, I go back and forth between the Death Metal EZX and the Mixwave part and it's just so good. I'm still constantly looking for better drum sounds by mixing and editing EZDrummer, but now I think that maybe they just don't have the punch that these other ones have right out of the box.
    If it wasn't for Kontakt, I would own some GGD and this MIxwave plugin.

    It'd sound better if you didn't use the default settings for each plugin as plugins like ML drums dound incredible especially with the extended kit but the default settings sounds trash because its not supposed to conform to a genre but be in the middle of most genres for easy tinkering.

    • @SimonSkipper
      @SimonSkipper  3 месяца назад

      My thought was to show what it sounds like as soon as you open it up. Some of the plugins are ready to go, which is great for beginners, and some need more sculpting, which is great for mixers.

    • @jeanpitre5789
      @jeanpitre5789 3 месяца назад

      @SimonSkipper I still don't think that's a great metric because what sounds good when you open it up is entirely dependent on the musical context. In the context of hard rock and metal the plug-ins designed specifically for those genres will sound good out the box because that's all they were designed for. For SOME of the plug-ins, like SSD5 and ML Drums., they are designed to be used in a multitude of genres, from rock to R&B and funk, even country. The super tight and compressed sound of metal drums is NOT what it sounds like out the box and that's not because it's a bad plug-in, but because their default settings doesn't assume a genre like some of the other plug-ins do.they have presets for those genres, which take a single click in the presets drop down list, which then showcase what they sound like in the context you are presenting, which is hard rock/metal.

      And therefore, showing how a plugin sounds right atta the gate with no processing is the best way to go about it, cuz if a drum plugin sounds heavily edited atta the gate, then it's easy to say they aren't meant to be versatile.

    This is such a fallacious comparison.
    Some of these plugins have processing on them, some of them are completely raw, some of them are mix ready, some are ready to be implemented in a mix.
    Each of these plugins have their own pros and cons and none of the pros or cons are the way they sound, because they can all equally sound amazing.
