- Taste testing the many flavors on offer from @Ugritone including a sneak preview of an upcoming library! This was just something I put together for my own study, so it's nothing super scientific or exhaustive, but it should give you a sense of how everything sounds in comparison to each other.
After the demo, I give you my thoughts, critiques, and ranking of all the libraries tested today!

On the same page with you on the KVLT1, that graphic makes you want to love them :) Great rundown on the product line. And most all UD work in Linux too!!
agree on the kick on the speed metal kit; I had it trigger a sample and blended them. have studio one, but need to try it with some riffs. I might get one of their midi packs because I dread programming drums.
Cool
Hello, which preset do you use in riot 1 demo? I love this sound and I've been wanting to achieve it for a long time
Gotta say, I agree with you on a lot of this. It's really good stuff my dude. I did use punk N Grind for one hardcore punk song I did one time. It was tons of fun and it's very mudvayne production wise. Maybe if you're going for a nu metal style, 90s era, punk N grind will do what you're looking for out of the box.
there's some good grindcore stuff in there too but personally when I want that old school UK grind sound I go for OSDM
OSDM sounds Good. All of it is Good. I just like all of it!!😎♥️
Great tier list man. I hear you about the Speed Metal kicks, they are just a little strange. I think in the old Kvlt 2 days some of the samples were actually delayed/off, so you could get some flutter in the kicks. That just shouldn't happen lol.
Total studio drums is pretty awesome, but I find that the cymbals are a little too mild or thin or something, at least for metal. They can do great modern metal if you process the shells and use some cymbals from other kits.
Drums against Humanity is just a ton of fun. The chinas and extended toms make me wanna jam for hours on it.
Peace
Did they fix the problem in the newer versions of Kvlt 2?! 'Cos I just bought it from sale, lol... 🙉
I only learned about Ugritone now that they are shutting down and got these drums... maaaan... these sound brilliant are easy to mix. Wish I had already known about them before.
Considering buying the whole drum pack as they’re deeply discounted. They worth it??
Initial first impressions listening blind 5 min in pre tier?
My ears seemed to prefer the OG Riot Drums above all. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
However,
given my age, influences, and prior recording/performing background within a published pop punk band circa late 1990's
may definitely have added some disproportional sway towards that inherent bias?
This is some excellent tier list content right here IMO Nick!
I really enjoy how descriptively thorough and objectively genuine your soft spoken opinions always are when conducting demos.
It's a welcome contrast that doesn't clash with my ASPD as much as some of the more loud & fast edited mainstream content creators.
Also, I saw your "100 days sober" vid, and just want to say congrats!
My ASPD wasn't legitimately diagnosed until well after my 9 year old son's diagnosis, and unfortunately played a major contributing factor to my prior struggles with
addiction & alcoholism, so I can most definitely empathize with your own personal experiences and subsequent transition.
Good stuff man!
Keep at it being so productive, creative, and awesome my dude!
Hoping you are consistently happy, safe, & well mi amigo.
✌🤟🖖
Thanks, brother, I appreciate it! I don't really feel like yelling into my camera all the time. I like to think people can appreciate content that isn't beating them over their head 😂
I bought the kvlt11 drum kit because it was cheap alternative than toontrack back then I use to like them and then I bought the speed metal then I decided check others out there and I been happy whit ML drums for a while every now and then I use ugritone drums but not much now days and my opinion death metal drum sound good I'm thinking to buy them even if I not going to use it for some reason ugritone is heavy on my CPU even when Iover the % use cheers brother 👍
Nice video, do I need some another sw to load it in REAPER? like Superior Drumer or something? Or is it ready to go in DAW + some midis? Thanks
@@WakizashiSabre the Ugritone Drums plugin is what they all run off and it comes with them
@@NickLeonard many thanks for the answer 👍
Great idea to do this list!! Thanx, man! 👏 I too have like 6 different drumsets from Ugritone, but I haven't really tested them, I've just bought them 'cos I saw them on sale for cheaps and they seemed to sound good! I'm about to do some death metal, so I was reaaaally glad they had OSDM on sale awhile back!! But then they had Kvlt 1 on sale! And just recently Kvlt 2!! 😁 Bought them all, lol. But I'd be really interested in how Kvlt 2 would rank on this list...? 🤔
I'd trust Ron's opinion, since he made them, that Kvlt 2 and Modern Doom would both be pretty high up, though DAH and Total Studio are the newest and most polished
@@NickLeonard I'm back! With a whole new question: Which of these (and possibly what preset) do u think is closest to achieving the Black album drum sound? 👀🤔
@@MaximusAdonicus I've never really attempted that, and I don't think an of them have a preset for that. You could probably get a similar sound with any number of them. This may be heresy, but I don't really think the drum sound on that album is that great, it's very cutting and clear, but kinda thin. I'd just mess around with eq for a while with the reference to get them to sit close and compress a lot. Tight studio might get the closest out of the box. As of right now Total studio is on sale for $10, and I'd just get that and do the rest with EQ/compression.
@@NickLeonard I've been wanting that sound for years and the reason I asked now was exactly for the fact that Total Studio is now on sale 😀 But I already have Tight! And would not want to buy any more sets 😵💫But thanx for the reply! But since u committed heresy, I will now go cry myself to sleep... 😭
I hate that deep reverb sound on the toms, too. I'm using Perfect Drums. If the reverb sound is low, which I'm guessing it is on the toms, I just put a Fabfilter pro-Q3 on it & do a low cut. Then you have that drum repeat & move the cut to taste. It made it a lot shorter, got rid of the deep reverb, and sounded amazing!
nice review, but Kvlt Drums II is still my fav one lml
I used riot, kvlt, die switch, arena rock and DAH….DAH are prob my fav by far, and die switch 2nd. The cymbals on DAH just sound more natural / realistic than others
Could you do this again with the complete line up since the software is now highly discounted as Ugritone are closing down at the end of the year?
I've thought about it, though the only according to Ron that could also make it into the top tier is Modern Doom.
I'm currently torn between picking up Doom Vintage or Modern, but I really like the papery kick on KVLT 1 and Riot 2 here.
Kvlt 1 and Riot 2 both come on sale for very cheap. I think Ron would say Modern Doom is the better kit
@@NickLeonard Thanks! I just picked up Vintage Doom for 10 bucks by signing up for their newsletter. It's an odd beast and some of the snares have some strange artifacts on the tails (not sure if that is how they are or if something weird is going on here) but I was able to quickly fiddle my way through things to make a kit that really adds some nice natural trash to my current "too clean" drums that I generally add a heavy dose of RoughRider to just to suffice. The cymbals are fantastic straight out of the gate. I'll be checking out Ugritone more in the near future for sure.
Still like Riot 1 the best. Kvult II is a close second.
I’ve also always pronounced it like Uh-gree-tone rather than Yoo-gree-tone. Oh well
Do you know if i can use ugritone on presonus 6
Yep! It's just a VST plugin
You missed Dieswitch. I've had it for a few years, but don't really use it anymore, even since they updated it, since I prefer a combo of GGD OKW: Metal and OKW: Fusion.
Yeah there's a number I don't have and couldn't test for this. The OKW stuff is good, and I used OKW Metal on a number of songs a while ago, I don't love it as much for my e-kit. Great sounding kit, but there isn't much to customize and I got a bit bored of it after a while.
@@NickLeonard I don't think I put out nearly the amount of content that you do, nor am I the connoisseur of drums that you are 😁
Guys im a newbie when it comes to drum libraries, i want something that sounds like Lorna Shore, death-black metal stuff, anyone have tips?
Maybe check out Drums Against Humanity or Krimh Drums, GGD One Kit Wonder Metal is another good one and all of those don't require much mixing to sound good
@@NickLeonard Thanks bro! Ill check them up! I was really tempted to get the Invasion from GGD
Where's "Arena Rock Drums"?
Not here, I did say it's only the ones I own, not all of them
Broh, stop bloviating and let us be the judge of sound...Play the sounds..sheez
las peores baterias que escuche en años estan lejos de lo que es getgood drums o superior drummer
