- The opportunity to see a Great Western Castle Class loco around Lincoln City was too good a chance to miss.
The Castles were built to operate out of London Paddington station towards the south west of England, the midlands and South Wales - and that is still the main operating area for the few that remain.
To see a Castle in the north is fairly rare, although they do make special trips to York. However, it's some time since a Castle has visited Lincoln.
We chose some good locations alongside the track and the Castle provided some excellent footage.
PLEASE TRY TO WATCH UNTIL THE END - the final location is particularly good. The Castle is accelerating away from Lincoln and working hard. The beautiful Cathedral of Lincoln can be seen on the hill top above the train.
Recorded on 7th October 2023.
Fantastic footage Andy
Thank you - Andy
Excellent video. Weather was good. Nothing sounds like Castle with the regulator wide and medium cut off. Cheers Andy.
It certainly sounded in great form, John - Andy
Love the new format with the historical explanation and other information! Enjoyed seeing the hand placed red lantern on the front of the engine as it was backing up.🚂🚂🚂🚂🚂👏👏👏
I'm glad you like the explanations. I still have doubts if it's the right thing to do - Andy
1950: Same year I was born. N&W's 611 ws also built that year. Great video.

It’s almost like the exchange trials of 1948 all over again
