  • 7029 'Clun Castle' had the pleasure of working Vintage Trains, 'The North Wales Express & Llandudno Transport Festival' railtour from Birmingham New Street to LLandudno.
Seen at various locations on the day, but finishing at Prestatyn, wherr the Castle is seen approaching fast, but then has to slow down to 10mph, in order to get through the station. This is because the Castles are only just in gauge to get through certain stations along the North Wale Coast.
Diesel ,class 47, 47773 ( D1755) is on the rear ( and front lol ) of the train.

Ex GWR LOADING GAUGE ISSUES !
GWR four cylinder locos (Stars, Castles & Kings) always presented gauging issues when not running over ex GWR lines. The problem being the upper half of their outside cylinders which could come in contact with platform edging. The GWR thanks to its original Broad Gauge (7ft 0.25inches), had allowed even the replacement standard gauge rolling stock to be 3-6inches wider than that of other railways. Indeed some GWR coaches in addition to 4 cylinder GWR locos were banned from many other railways routes & almost all Southern lines. Hence at railway boundary stations such as Basingstoke these 4 cylinder types were replaced with a Southern design for the onward Southern part of the journey to Portsmouth & Bournemouth etc.

If the steam loco fails and causes delays to service trains the penalties are enormous. The Brush is there as insurance. That said, it's a pity that where traffic densities allow it the "insurance loco" couldn't have it's own path just behind the steam train, rather than being attached to it.

Jamie Twonkby Donkey Maltby is one to avoid Jack as he's managed to piss off so many loco owners and groups with his FB groups which claim they hope to buy engines with imaginary money and chocolate coins and return them to the mainline. One day he will end up in court by someone for his actions & I can tell you now he wont be getting sympathy off myself or others because he doesn't realize that his groups could damage the reputation for real owners.

Avoid Jamie like the plague Jack as he's a real troublemaker in the railway hobby, he's pissed off a lot of loco owners and individual people plus society's including Tyseley and Didcot.

@@sam_edwards_7233 it's only a matter of time before he angers the wrong person and he ends up getting beaten up. If I ever come across him he will be getting a bloody good shouting at for his drivvel as it's pissing everyone off with him always being a prick and not thinking before he creates silly groups which could damage a real owner or groups image. I really hope he gets sued in the future.
