+MATERIALS: balloons, Mod Podge, foam brush, confetti, scissors, push pin
+WHY DID YOU ADD SO MANY LAYERS?
At 2 layers, I could still see parts of the balloon showing through so I wanted to add at least 3 so that the bowl would be solid. That said, after the third layer, more confetti = more unevenness on the outside of the bowl.
+HOW LONG DID YOU LET THEM DRY?
In total, I allowed both bowls to dry for about 12 hours. Just wanted to make sure they were 100% dry.
+WHY DIDN'T YOU ADD A FINAL LAYER OF MOD PODGE TO SMOOTH EVERYTHING DOWN?
I attempted this on a small portion of one of the bowls, but unfortunately, the mod podge does not get the confetti to lay flat. Instead of smoothing it out, it added to the chunky, uneven texture on the outside.
+FINAL VERDICT:
This was half truth/half fail (in my opinion). It does create a bowl, but the outside of the bowl is kind of uneven/sad looking. I'd be really curious to try this with a different type of material to see how it works (fabric, maybe?). If you've tried this project out with better results, let me know how you did it in the comments below!

Maybe adding another layer of just modpodge without the confetti could have acted as a sealant for the confetti and smoothing it out?
Same lol
In the description she says that she did that
KayteeStrange That seems like a nice idea
Good idea
nic pic
I made a few of these and noticed that if you press down the confetti after each coat and add one final layer of glue the bowl look neater 👌👌
Put another layer of modpodge after you are done to seal everything in place
Yes that's what I. Did
I tried and 3 coats worked really good but if u would've put another layer of on the last coat of confetti it would've looked another and like the inside of the bowl
Just a suggestion to flatten the outside...Blow your balloon up to just smaller than another bowl (like a bigger version of the glass bowl in the vid) and after you pop the balloon, add the final coat of mod podge to the outside and then insert it into the bowl with some sort of a weight to hold it down, inside the bowl...maybe ceramic baking beads or rice...I'd also spray the inside of the bowl with some sort of cooking spray so that it releases cleanly. Hope that helps :D
Just another thought...if you use the bowl/weight technique while waiting for each layer to dry, it will probably stay flat without the extra layer so 3 or 4 should do it :D
Put a layer of modge podge after the last coat of confetti to seal/secure it. You can also flip the bowl inside out.
The more I hear about glitter, the more convinced I am that it would be better for this project. I'll definitely look into trying it with glitter (and getting the glossy Mod Podge instead of matte). Thanks for describing how you did it! Very helpful.
Glitter seems to be the most popular method of actually getting this project to work. I definitely need to try it out!
just stumbled across this video and I'm so pleased that it's similar to Threadbanger's Man vs Pin without all the cursing and fake blood lol. I will definitely be subscribing and watching your other videos! Love the calm voice and editing!
You could've took your time a smoothed down the confetti to get them to look nicer..?
Glitter is a wonderful suggestion. Thank you! I might have to try that out next!
I haven't done this experiment, but just for a better result (maybe), try making sure all the confetti is pressed face down and not leaning against any others. After you add all the layers you want, paint another layer if modge podge over it all, as if you're going to add another layer of confetti. It might fill in the uneven-ness.
Loved your video. So methodical! Have you watched man vs. Pin. You guys make me feel safer in my pintrest world.
You should have mixed the confetti and mod podge together.
Thank YOU for this awesome comment. So many ideas! I've gotten the request for the record bowl before so I definitely want to look into that. Thanks for the suggestions!
When I was done with the 4 coats of black hexagonal glitter, I coated it with more glue, let it dry, sprinkled a bit of the black opalescent glitter on it, let it dry, painted it again to seal it, let it dry, & popped it. I also painted the inside with the glue, sprinkled the fine midnight blue glitter evenly inside it, gave it another coat of glue & it came out really nice. The glossiness from the glue made the glitter a lot more vibrant & sealing it made the bowl pretty durable, surprisingly.
I've been really wanting to try it out with lace. Thanks for letting me know how you did it!
I made them with buttons instead, nearly lining up buttons. Turned out AMAZING!
Omigosh.. I want to make one of these confetti bowls and fill it with skittles or m&ms.. :D
camouflaged candy! :-)
If yo do it make sure you put another layer of modpodge after your done then it will make it smoother and neater
I didn't think of that! Great suggestion.
That's a really good idea! Will definitely be trying that out.
Love this. I tried this and used metallic, plastic-y type confetti same size as yours. I recommend using a third or fourth layer of mod podge. Example: Instead of pooping your confetti immediately after it dries, coat it with a final layer of mod podge.
Those always look so beautiful for decorating a party. I've seen them in stores, but they seem quite pricey for just being made out of tissue paper. Will definitely look into that one!
I've always wanted to know if that works. Adding that one to the list!
I think the outside looks awesome! I'd totally use this as art if nothing else. Super cute
If your bowl goes well, you can use it for whatever you want (holding jewelry or just as a decorative piece).
Going to buy the materials for an episode 3 later today!
As I mentioned in the down bar/annotation, adding more mod podge to the outside did nothing to smooth down the confetti once it had dried that way. With another material, that would be a great thing to do. The thickness of the confetti I used is what ruined my experiment.
When I tried it I put a thick layer of mod podge over the last layer of confetti. It helps seal it in for a prettier outside and so that the confetti is completely sucured to the bowl😊
I see your final comment on screen - and that's what I would have said.
Put a final layer of mod-podge on as a sealer.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
It's basically just a glue. It comes in a lot of different varieties (for different surfaces like fabric, paper, etc).
Yay! Glad to hear that. I love making them :)
I've seen that one re-pinned so often! I definitely want to try it out.
I think doing a layer of confetti for the inside effect followed by doing just regular paper or fabric ribbons for build up and structure followed by another layer of confetti for the outside effect would probably work better and also not waste as much confetti.
That's exactly what I was thinking! Make a real, sturdy bowl structure between the layers of confetti
I definitely want to try it out with string. Seems like that would be a little less time consuming/messy!
I've done this with string before and it looked AWESOME!!
I got very good results for the bowl using glitter. I also did one with very small confetti pieces. For the glitter it is easier to mix equal amounts of modpodge and glitter into a bowl. Then apply it onto the balloon
I did that, and let it sit for 2 days and it turned out bad? But it was Fun making it and watching it dry
you should put as a last step mod podge and not confetti
I think you could put an extra layer of mod podge without putting confetti on it to "secure" the confetti along with adding a shine to it
I would recommend the dip method? Brush on the glue then roll the balloon into a large bowl of confetti. Dry Repeat. Maybe even using wax paper to smooth them down
That sounds interesting. I'll look into that.
2 things
1.I put 1 last layer of modge podge to cover the confetti to make sure they don't fall of
2.I used buttons and thats good because they are thicker, need less coats and ya but the confetti thing is a cool idea
I can definitely add that to my list.
I did it and I flipped it inside out it looks mush better

you could put a layer of mod podge over everything to try create a smoother surface.I dont know if that would work because Ive never tried this but i definatley will with a different kind of confetti!
Whoa, that's a long time! Thanks for sticking with me :)
Put a layer of tape above the area you want covered. It makes a straighter edge for your bowl.
No problem, hun. I know sometimes Pinterest doesn't always give detailed directions for a successful DIY. I did also try building up the bottom so the bowl could stand upright on it's own, but that's a work in progress. :)
Same here! I was pretty shocked that it didn't just collapse completely.
I think I would've just.. Flipped the bowl inside out :P
How...? ._.
It's modge podged isnt it? So it's basically plastic.. I made the 'pinterest autumn bowls once (I still have them) and I can easily flip them back and forth so I imagine the same thing would apply here
exactly
put modge poge on the outside of the bowl
omg i never seen anything so amazing like this before, you are too smart
Can you do a video on all of those diy colored mason jars? There are a million different methods and I'm wondering if you could test it out to see which one(s) work the best!
Great series!! Can you do the doily lamp? I would love to see how that works.
I agree! I think that would totally work... but ain't nobody got time for that. I'm planning on re-trying this with other material so if I find a non time consuming option, I'll let y'all know :)
I'm not sure. That would be interesting to try out.
I like how it looks before you cut it!
I love your videos they're so simple to create yet very creative and cool! :D loved it!!!
You are the best! And you're so funny! I love your videos! Just wanted to let you know that you are doing such a good job at your super channel!!! Keep up the super DIYs
You should have covered the last layer of confetti with mod podge so that when it dries clear it looks just like the inside of the bowl that you liked!!!
I'd love to see you try faux sea glass jars or glass tinting. I would like to see if any techniques actually work.
You have such a calming voice wow
I did this and it worked perfectly. so u do the first layer like the thing said, then u use white tissue paper as a back round. After about 14 billion layers (more like 10-15) the last layer it the confetti and the I did an uneven edge so kind of like wave effect and it worked out perfectly!
A last tip is that put a last layer of mod Podge. Also for the ballon you should take it out a little more carefully
I thought that would work too, but unfortunately the mod podge did not help to smooth the confetti down. It just added to the chunkiness. :(
I used a makeup blending sponge and that really worked you will need 3 of them depending on how many bowls you do
I made one with buttons and it turned out well. You actually should've added another layer of mod podge at the end
I tried one where I layered strands of (embroidery) floss on the balloon, and i also did one with tissue paper and one with lace. They both work really well. I did mine with Elmer's Glue, but with about 6-10 coats. :3 The one with lace i did with fabric glue and elmers mixed together and only did 3 layers (very precisely to make a nice pattern), but when it dried and i popped the balloon, I immediately covered it with more fabric glue and such on the inside :3
recommendation: add an additional layer of mod podge on top of your last confetti layer to seal it in and smooth it out!
I tried flipping it inside out, and unfortunately I kind of ripped the side of the bowl so I just left it alone. Thanks for watching!
You could always buy a clear glass bowl beforehand and then make the DIY bowl fit to that size. That way it would be more sturdy.
I´m thinking about makeing the "Easy DIY tissue paper pom poms" (Breezy Barkley) But since I´m not that good with craft I would like to see if they really are that easy :)
Really like this series!
Love
After your last layer of confetti do one more layer of mod podge without adding confetti and it looks much more smooth and polished
Thank you so much! I really do appreciate that. :)
you could have put a layer or two of newspaper on the outside and then a layer of glitter to cover the newspaper if you didnt like the outside and it would have also made it have more stability most likely
Thank you!
I think that u should of added a final layer of Moshe lodge to get a smoother finish
Do you mean Mod Podge
Yea😂
Maybe put one more layer of mod poge on top then let dry
Great idea!
she explained in the description why that didnt work
That was what I was going to tell her until I saw your comment
You could pop the balloon more slowly/ more carefully by putting on a peace of sticky tape and then popping in the middle of it. It keeps the balloon from popping and just creates a hole to get the air out so you can be careful with more delicate structures.
I used another diy that used a mod Podge and glitter mix and I am working on that now. I think it will work :)
I've tried this myself, but instead I used large cuts of black hexagonal glitter (since I didn't really care for the multicolored effect), black opalescent fine grade glitter, & extra fine midnight blue glitter. I did the whole thing with the glossy modgepodge glue on the balloon, but I used my finger to press down the hexagonal glitter before letting it dry & coating it again.
Your videos are literally amazing. I've been here since 5k!
I feel like the best result with the confetti is to place each piece flat instead of sprinkling them on.. but that would take forever and I'd give up/be too impatient lol but I'm glad you're trying to debunk these pins!
I think you should've added one last layer of mod Podge at the end because I think the confetti would be more tame
The outside isn't that bad...I like the texture...but i do see where some of the areas sort of collapsed or crinkled up. Perhaps once it's dry, add one final smoothing layer of mod podge...add a little pressure to get the confetti flat, dry then pop. ?? I'm gonna pin this vid though to my lesson planning board! Thanks.
With any mod podge craft I do I usually put a top coat of mod podge on top of the last layer of what I a, working with. It usually works. I haven't done it with confetti yet but when I did jars and tissue paper it seemed to work :) hope this helped!
Tissue paper works really well!
Plz do the leaf bowl!!!
Mix mod podge and the confetti together and then apply it on the ballon and the texture from the outside will be the same as the inside
I loved the vid but what the neck I would have kept them now this is super cute :)
Unfortunately, that didn't work. I tried that on a portion of the balloon, but it didn't flatten out the confetti (because the confetti that was sticking out had already dried in that position).
I really wanted it to work, It looks pretty and would be perfect to store keys or rings etc
to get it smoother on the outside you should of added one final layer of mod podge to make it completely smooth.
You have to do a final layer of mod podge
For the nice finish add 1 more layer of just modpoge so id there are three layers of confetti there will be four layers of modpoge
Use glitter it works alot better than paper
I just mixed mod podge and confetti and it worked well
Modge pogde uk alternative is PVA glue as it dries clear and is suitable for paper/card.
Filming another one very soon!
