if you do stuff like this the first time in groups you usually do a bad job. It's because of our dependent nature to the group. Tests have proven that if you're by yourself figuring something out for the first time, you figure it out faster and do alot better. That's why when working in groups you need training in either your particular area or the group's goal as a whole.
***** That's dependent on the task at hand. People tend to perform better doing simple or well-learned tasks in the presence of others and worse on complex tasks. This phenomena is called social facilitation...AKA the only time I paid attention in my undergrad social psych lecture hehe :P
"That's why when working in groups you need training" this makes no sense... wouldn't training in a group environment happen naturally because... you know... someone is there to do the training...
I'm so bad at working in groups, I focus easily independently and usually at school (Still a kid :3) my classmates have the worst ideas ever. I love socializing in groups and I get lonely easily but when I have something to distract me like work. :3 Btw, when I say worst ideas ever I'm not saying that because I want my ideas, I'm gifted in math and seeing my group trying to figure out how to solve the problem while I already finished is kinda awkward and annoying (Annoying for me since I don't get to enjoy talking with them xD)
AnaBanana126 Yeah, it seems they found 3 of the most craft-inept people possible. Not only that, but that also is the wrong type of pan for the cookie bowls, setting those 3 chumps up for further failure.
Metalchick721 I've done the first one before and it was actually pretty easy. The instructions are in a weird order so that might be where they went wrong.
It's not too difficult to figure it out without instructions, most of this kind of stuff is just using a bit of logic to make sure the cord/rope/string alternates between over and under. The tricky bit is getting the point to stay pointy :/
Celtic heart knot: not impossible but takes some trial and error to get it right. Crayon art: Easy. Anyone can do this, great for new pinners. Cookie bowls: You guys did it wrong. You have to put a muffin liner on every other upsidedown tin. Then you put a ball of cookie dough (like you would for just regular cookies) and let it bake. When it's done, just let it cool, take it off, take the liners out, and boom. Done.
Haiven Ashton Really? I used white canvas and left the paper on the crayons... worked just fine for me. c: Guitarex It's a little hard *not* to smell the crayon wax melting. xD
yeah do it! i tried it with only blues/greys/and silver/ and more blues, aja just every shade of crayon blue i could find and then i drew a figure of a boy and a girl under an unbrella (all black) and then it looked like rain. ^.^ p.s. if you want to see it its on instagram ( andieatsart ) also, i suggest you use crayola brand. I tried several, and crayola was the best, once melted.
Conclusion: Pinterest requires some basic craft experience. For example, macrame is not something you just master in a few minutes. People who never bake cookies would have no idea how much that cookie dough will expand.
+enzyme20056 What could a possible horror story of crayons and a blow dryer be? Because I hear horror story and expect someone to be dead or mutilated in some way not someone got red wax on their white carpet OMG!
The instructions were to do it to the outside. Their mess up was you're supposed to go it to a mini cupcake tray and spray it with cooking spray beforehand.
Actually a firm, but room temp. dough works best, and they did it too thick, and overcrowded. A room temp. semi firm dough makes a crunchy stable bowl.
The knot isn't that difficult. Haha! Takes some time, but it's not hard. The crayon one is better if you do it on a hot summer day. You get a more even heat coverage. The cookie bowl? WAAAAAAAAY too much dough. But A for effort!

Or they're teaching you to make hair bow but forget to mention how to make sure it comes out neat.

I've come to the conclusion that you need to enter your own steps to pinterest where logic applies. That said, I've done a few interesting projects from pinterest successfully.
that cookie bowl picture is taken out of context. it's not the bottom of a muffin pan, it is a product specifically made to make cookie bowls. someone on pinterest made up instructions using a muffin pan probably never trying it.
SpyroLUVA It might because the problem they were having was all the cookies were stuck together so if you put them on the inside they have their own little space and won't melt onto the other cookies.
kArTeR your on the right track, if it were me i'd do what's known as "blind baking" line the cookie dough on the inside of the muffin pan like you suggested and then put baking paper over top and fill the gap with rice, the rice will help the cookie hold it shape while cooking. its the same technique used to make shell casings for tartes and pie's
No one made up any instructions, using the base to do that kind of shapes is perfectly normal, only you use a thin layer of dough and need to make sure there will be enough room between each cookie.
Rosaliina Lievonen Heat guns emit so much more heat that a hairdryer with less air flow which means the crayons just melt nicely rather than drip and blow everywhere
I think for the cookie bowl they should have not put them next to each other and the dough should have been thinner but whatever they're cookies anyways its all good :)
That was the point I was trying to make. I was not saying I was a genius. I was saying that with little time I did the knot and that it was not difficult at all. Anyone can do it.
In their defence, the instruction actually aren't that clear. Before acting like a complete jackass, at least make sure your grammar is correct. It's "a USB" not "an". Even if you don't say the acronym, it's wrong on both cases.
In order to get the cookie bowls to work, you pretty much have to use home-made dough but substitute in vegetable shortening for any kind of liquid oil or butter it calls for. The shortening keeps it from melting & spreading out too much. I've made it work using the Toll-house recipe on the back of their chocolate chips but with Crisco instead of butter.
Me and my friend like to act like we are on the cooking show Chopped. I love to bake so I was going to make those cookie bowls. We were home alone that day. I put the cookie dough on the bottom of the pan and put it in the oven. A few minutes later I looked in the oven and the dough was pouring down the sides of the pan! Chunks of it were on the bottom of the oven and they started to catch on fire! Thankfully we got the pieces out. At least I had 12 salvageable cookies😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Most chocolate chip cookie dough (including store-bought packages) are way too soft to do the cookie bowl. It would work better with a stiffer dough that hold's it's shape well or with dough that's been chilled or frozen overnight and is kept cold when not in use. Sugar cookie dough, for example, would be perfect
MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, PANIC! AT THE DISCO AND HARRY POTTER IF ONLY YOU HAD TWENTY ONE PILOTS IN THERE IF YOU DID. . . . .YOU WOULD BE THE AWESOMEST PERSON IN THE WORLD
+Lily Kuzyk tbh you don't really need instructions to do this knot just follow the rope as shown on the picture. I tried it aswell for the first time without instructions and it worked perfectly fine

It also matters how strong your microwave is because if it is too strong it could make it chewy
jstyledipset If I didn't wash my cup out well, then everything I drink would taste like soap. But no, it was just the cake. Too much baking soda, maybe?
The heart one was pretty easy actually you just have to follow each end of the string and you can go from there. You basically asked idiots to create the Eiffel tower from their standpoint.
***** I care to disagree. It should be common knowledge, anyone who has ever baked any kind of cookie would know that you need to grease the pan with something first otherwise it will just stick to the metal.
The cookie bowls are suppose to be a little thinner and should be barely touching the bottom (flat part) of the pan. Plus why didn't they melt the crayons from in front of the board instead of behind it?
lol they're not even "wanna bes", they are just trying for the video. There is a huge differece between exploring interests and being a real "wanna be"
the heart...did that first shot with a strip of leather and it turned out great. Crayons melting....easy to understand that you don't point the hair dryer AT the leading edge of the crayon or it makes a mess, instead point it at the paper part of the crayon and let the heat do the work. the cookie dough....need the right consistency.
I tried to do the heart, paused the video and looked at how the looping worked, and could do it... maybe... if I had anything besides an inch-and-a-half thick ribbon and a iPod power cord to try it with. Sigh.
That melting crayon thing actually looked really cool
I have one in my bedroom, it's easy to do
Yah, we did it in school. Pretty easy
Pham
+Dennis San Pedro once when I was in grade 2 a girl used to always put her crayon on top of the vent and they would always melt everywhere XD

AnaBanana126 Yeah, it seems they found 3 of the most craft-inept people possible. Not only that, but that also is the wrong type of pan for the cookie bowls, setting those 3 chumps up for further failure.
AnaBanana126 The second one went fine, the last one could be done with work, I don't know about the first.
Metalchick721 I've done the first one before and it was actually pretty easy. The instructions are in a weird order so that might be where they went wrong.
Alice Johnson tbh I could figure it out just be looking at the picture
I did the braided rope heart! But I just taped the rope to the paper, the instructions are stupid, I made my own instuctions

yeah the instructions were so hard to understand so i just did it my own way and it worked out fine :)

I liked this. The crayon art project looks fun.
Never been on Pinterest. I'm not much of a crafter, but the melted crayon art looks cool.
It is, but if you want it to look like the test image you need each crayon to have the same fair amount of heat.
ive seen it done in real life and it turned out pretty cool. A 4 year old did it, it's really easy.
I did the melted crayon art, and blew out all my outlets
U need to peel off the paper
KayCake Loves Pie You don't HAVE to peel off the paper. It works perfectly good with the paper. I did a creation art too one before.
Chloe B. Don't blow out your outlets
CRAFT!
Totally doing the crayon art. Buy an IKEA frame, glue some crayons to it, melt them, smell them, and you've got modern art.
I did it and if you haven't done it yet use white cardboard and take the paper off the crayons!!! Two mistakes I made
Smell them?
Haiven Ashton Really? I used white canvas and left the paper on the crayons... worked just fine for me. c:

no wonder it didn't work

Hello

Hi
+Alice Williams Stop
Did you just.
now i wanna try the crayon art it's easy and looks cool :)
yeah do it! i tried it with only blues/greys/and silver/ and more blues, aja just every shade of crayon blue i could find and then i drew a figure of a boy and a girl under an unbrella (all black) and then it looked like rain. ^.^
p.s. if you want to see it its on instagram ( andieatsart )
also, i suggest you use crayola brand. I tried several, and crayola was the best, once melted.
Use a high heat low fan hair dryer to get it to actually look like the one on pintrest.
It's even better when you use a cheap glue gun and replace the glue sticks with crayons, as demonstrated by a video on RUclips.
ReflectionOfAVoice wouldn't want to buy a glue gun just for that lol don't even know what they're used for...
andieatscandy found it, looks awesome :)
Conclusion: Pinterest requires some basic craft experience.

I wanna do the knot one and make a bracelet out of it.
actually i like the crayon one! im going to try it!
They failed the cookie bowl one because they molded it to the outside, not the inside. I HAVE done this one, its amazing with icecream.
The instructions were to do it to the outside. Their mess up was you're supposed to go it to a mini cupcake tray and spray it with cooking spray beforehand.
WoahDxxD They also messed up because they over crowded the pan, used too much cookie dough, and had the wrong type of pan.
Caleb Kelley
plus maybe if the chips were smaller
The Pillsbury dough is not ideal especially the sugar ones bc they are too soft. But with tweaking it could happen.
Actually a firm, but room temp. dough works best, and they did it too thick, and overcrowded. A room temp. semi firm dough makes a crunchy stable bowl.
Pinterest is hard but some pins are really fun and easy to do! You just have to search :)
the heart rope thing was actually doable ! you just needed a thicker rope.. it worked for me at least

Agreed
I did the cookie bowls and stuffed them with ice cream.
Holy crap that is genius! Mmmmm
***** By using too much dough around the tray, and having the ends of the dough too close.
mm a cookie bowl sundae! 😍
That last one with the cookie is a pretty good idea lol.

me to it looks so simple i guarantee i'll mess it up tho
that cookie bowl picture is taken out of context. it's not the bottom of a muffin pan, it is a product specifically made to make cookie bowls. someone on pinterest made up instructions using a muffin pan probably never trying it.
What about the inside of a muffin pan with another pan or something inside of that to maintain the bowl shape? Would that work?
SpyroLUVA maybe. i've never tried it lol but the inside sounds easier than the bottom

No, Its Just that they did THE FreAKING WHOLE THING WRONG!!
YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO USE A HEAT GUN, NOT A HAIRDRYER
Well, hairdryer works too.
Rosaliina Lievonen Heat guns emit so much more heat that a hairdryer with less air flow which means the crayons just melt nicely rather than drip and blow everywhere
Maybe they didn't just have a heat gun.
Shin0bu You can do it with a hair dryer, but don't face the air downwards. It is so much fun.
***** Of course not, but they can't expect it to work if they just use a hairdryer. That's why it never looks as good if you do it at home
This is honestly the best effing idea for a video I've ever seen! Haha! But I would have definitely loved to see more!!
The rope heart looks fine if you use the right kind of cord, and don't follow the instructions.
Its actually pretty easy just follow the instruction correctly and be able to improvise
I think for the cookie bowl they should have not put them next to each other and the dough should have been thinner but whatever they're cookies anyways its all good :)
At least even the broken, ruined results will be delicious. ;9
I volunteer for the cookie dough one
Don't cry, craft.
I kinda want to try the crayon one :)
I wanna make a melted crayon masterpiece.
THAT WAS SO MUCH COOKIE DOUGH JESUS. IT DOESN'T TAKE THAT MUCH.
When they started doing the melted crayons, someone in my house turned on a hairdryer.
i love the color contrast and lighting in this. it reminds me of happy summertimes.
I just did the "Braided Rope Heart" in 30 seconds with an USB cable, just looking at the damn picture. Where did you guys get these "regular" people?
you're obviously perfect at life and should be doing things that involve being a genius.
/jealous
That was the point I was trying to make. I was not saying I was a genius. I was saying that with little time I did the knot and that it was not difficult at all. Anyone can do it.
sorry if that sounded passive aggressive, it was just supposed to be humorous
It's ok. Just work on your stand-up comedy act. ^^

I love pinterest, but the DIY are so not easy xD

that looks like the most fun chill day
for number one, they should have a thicker, little less flexible rope proberly??
number two, they should just have melted them for a longer time to make it look more like it
number three proberly just requires practice, i think

Ive done the rainbiow crayon art.
I tried the mug cake thing, and it turned out to be like rubber and tasted like soap.

Oh .... come on. Knots are not really that hard.
I've done the crayon art and I even did little people on cardboard with an umbrella and it looked so cute.
Who are "regular people"?
Do more of these please :)
the hairdryer crayon art is not difficult, you just need to do it correctly, and anough heat
take your time
ive done that melting crayon thing before, I did it on a black posterboard. it turned out really cool
'Its trash and I never want to look at it again' ... Then immediately looks at it
I laughed so much at their cookie bowls! xD I honestly thought they were going to come out real good!
Why try to make the cookies look cute, when they're delicious either way?
exactly
It's so you can put things into them. Like they're bowls.
If a cookie looked like cat diarrhea, I would still eat it because it tastes good. .-.
Assassin Hunter haha! Same here!
Do more! :D I feel like this was something that I should trie too! xD
Did they think the cookie thing would work with those giant muffins and they didn't even spray it with Pam or anything....
Regular people don't know these little details, which is the point. ;)
***** I care to disagree. It should be common knowledge, anyone who has ever baked any kind of cookie would know that you need to grease the pan with something first otherwise it will just stick to the metal.

it took me about fifteen minutes to do the heart shaped knot
This was my first buzzfeed video and I watched the same day it was realised and all those months later here I am 😀 thanks!
I really want to try the crayon one with a pack of like, 64 and make it into a giant heart!
I've seen you somewhere............
***** your dreams!
we do this in my school art class. I personally rewrapped the crayons in white paper and then I made a blue green and purple star
wow! that's SO cool! I wish I could see it!

The cookie bowls are suppose to be a little thinner and should be barely touching the bottom (flat part) of the pan. Plus why didn't they melt the crayons from in front of the board instead of behind it?
For the crayons, if they're in front of it they block the camera
They could have stood off to the side to not block the camera but still be able to see what they were doing.
brat46 harder to do that.
That crayon one looks soooo easy and sooo cool! :D

I get the feeling you're one of those crafty people
Damn good at it too! ;)
lol they're not even "wanna bes", they are just trying for the video. There is a huge differece between exploring interests and being a real "wanna be"
Crayola also make crayon melting kits. I've done it, and I loved it. It didn't require glue.
I wanna do the crayon art. That be so cool and its almost socially acceptable for a 21year old woman to buy and use crayons :)
the heart...did that first shot with a strip of leather and it turned out great.
Crayons melting....easy to understand that you don't point the hair dryer AT the leading edge of the crayon or it makes a mess, instead point it at the paper part of the crayon and let the heat do the work.
the cookie dough....need the right consistency.
More please :)
I love the rainbow of her heart
I did the crayon thing in 4th grade but i arranged them in a circle so they melt outwards.
I want so much more of this
I tried to do the heart, paused the video and looked at how the looping worked, and could do it... maybe... if I had anything besides an inch-and-a-half thick ribbon and a iPod power cord to try it with. Sigh.
OMG this was the first BuzzFeed video I ever watched and I'm coming back to watch it three years later 🙈🙉🙊
