  • Am I fit enough to beat the US Army physical fitness test (APFT) as an endurance athlete? I must complete 2 minutes of pushups, 2 mins of situps and a 2 mile run #APFT #TheAthleteSpecial

      Actually the army just changed the standards once again! The apft is once again the standard as Congress and DOD said they would no longer fund the cpft. It may not have started but here in tradoc land privates are already back at apft!

      @@jasonmaxwell7558this is as of 21 Dec 23: The NDAA removes efforts to reinstate the previous Army Physical Fitness Test as the test of record, which had been added over the summer to the draft version of the NDAA.

      @@jasonmaxwell7558 This is incorrect. The reversal to the APFT has halted and the ACFT is here to stay. Compromise has been found to overhaul the ACTT to meet congressional standards for each level of fitness/appropriate limitations due to physical features (age sex, etc)

    Allie’s push-up did not go break the plan. She needed to go a little further down to count. When she was doing her sit-up you put your knees on her feet. You are not supposed to do that, only your hands are to hold her feet. You sir did not go all the way up during the sit-up. The base of your neck must be past the base of your spine. When in the ground your shoulder blades can touch the ground and you can move towards the top. Don’t get me wrong Allie is in good shape but do it to standard.

    Love the content and as far as the run goes I was in National Guard and Army Reserve and even with that running time hack you will be surprised how many people fail that run I have a track background myself so I always maxed out the PT Test then you have to take in account also the army training for running in general is a joke compared to actual track training but tips with the push ups to max it out try moving your hands in and out it distributes the weight and with the push-ups you have to burnout from the start time is against you since the longer you down there the longer it hurts as for the sit-ups relax the first minute and get between 38-40 and scorch the last minute as hard as you can with these methods it got me a 300 my best push ups was 89 best sit-ups was 100, and my two mile was 10:17 but keep in mind I train as a 800 meter runner and have a PR of 1:47.54 so that might have helped a lil bit but love the grind and hustle 💯

    I absolutely love this! When I was in high school, my P.E. coach kept asking me to run track, because I would be good at it. I never did. When I was a freshman in college and in R.O.T.C., as a female, I made a perfect score by the male standards on the P.T. test. The Lieutenant Colonel wanted to show me off, so he had me run the local 10K road race to support the track team. I won the women’s race, so the track coach said, “Come see me.” So, I ended up with an R.O.T.C. scholarship and a track scholarship. Great job on the perfect score, Allie!

    The push-ups is easy to improve. I only got to 59 in basic, then I did 104 a few months later by using bench press at 130 lb and doing 2 sets of 20. For sit-ups, I got to 105. Doing 50 leg lifts and doing 70 sit-ups unsupported helped a lot. If you can do both those things, supported sit-ups really aren't that bad. The trick is to not stop. You can afford to stop in push-ups, but sit-ups really is just going at it the whole 2 minutes, although you can use a slower tempo. All you need to do is 40 per minute. It's a little easier to think of it like that.

    Actually bro you wouldn’t have passed the push up event! As a tall person it way harder! Your elbows and arms must come completely parallel to your back! Like over half of your didn’t! Also sit-ups are counted from the down position not the up position. The fingers in the back of your head must remain connected/ or enter locked if you want. There are ways to help with sit-ups such as just falling back instead of controlling a slow down. Keep up the work!

    I agree that the running standard is way too low. I almost joined the army after high school, and at the time the standard was even lower, a 13:30 2 mile to make a 100.
    I’m not nearly as fast as you and Allie, but I ran an 11:46 for 3200 meters in high school. A 13:30 is a joke 😂
    Thing is, almost everyone in the military hates running. During PT, the soldiers only run like 2-4 miles. It’s ridiculous 😂
    The army is in horrible shape

      Would it be different coming from a non-running background? Like if somebody could max out the pushup section but found the running harder as it went on. Genuinely asking because idk

    • @ezekielanderson9055
      @ezekielanderson9055 5 месяцев назад

      @@dylandixon4058 Your fitness background shouldn’t matter.
      When you sign up for the army, before you go to basic training, you do an easier fitness test to measure your current fitness. If you can’t even pass the easier version, you get sent to “fat camp”, where you just exercise all day for a few weeks until you can pass the easier test. Then you actually get sent to basic training.
      Once you’re in basic training, you start almost every morning with a workout. The point of the workouts is to make sure the soldiers can pass the fitness test by the end of their training. They do dozens and dozens of pushups, sit up’s, and planks. But they only run like 2-4 miles. You’re training pushups and sit-ups a lot, but you’re not running enough mileage to improve at the two mile. So by the end of basic training the soldiers can do tons of pushups and sit ups, but their run is still horrible. That’s why these standards are so low. They aren’t running enough in basic training to improve.

    I can do 13 continuous push-ups to failure, so maybe I could get to 20 in 2 minutes with brief rest periods. Probably about the same for sit-ups. My current 5k time is 27:00/8:40 pace, so *maybe* I could gut out 16:36/8:18 for two miles on a good day. This is what awaits you when entering the Geriatric years. You guys both slayed it, very impressive.... but I think due to running being your specialty, you've both become a little out of touch with how the average American relates to 6:30 pace.
