  • This lecture explains about the different types of tumour suppressor genes including p53,p21,p10, pRB and so on. Tumor suppressor genes are constitutively produced in cell that regulates cell cycle stages and make the decision to either fix any DNA damage or to kill the cell with apoptosis pathway. Tumor suppressor genes are normal genes that slow down cell division, repair DNA mistakes, or tell cells when to die (a process known as apoptosis or programmed cell death). When tumor suppressor genes don't work properly, cells can grow out of control, which can lead to cancer.

Shomu, Fascinating lecture! Am I correct that genes are binary, that s either on or off and that if we make sure the sequence leading to the TSG is correct, it will stop the growth of the tumor? If we identify the sequence, we CRISPER out the bad sequence, and CRISPER in the correct part of the sequence and we stop the tumor growth???

The gene for retinoblastoma is transmitted along with a gene for esterase D to which it is closely linked. However, either of the two alleles for esterase D can be transmitted with either allele for retinoblastoma. How do you know that retinoblastoma is not the direct effect of the esterase D genotype?

Shomu,, if the Tumor Suppressor does not work, you said cancer is a result. Can deformities also result? I'm hearing about babies in Japan's Fukishima area, are born with extra and missing limbs.

    • @hamahamieng

deformities often happen with developmental genes but not always happen with tumor suppressor gene !
