Nokia came up with the switching PROFILES feature during the keypad era and no company really followed thru until Apple revamped it as the more sophisticated FOCUS. I actually love this feature because there are anxiety-filled days when I simply want to avoid Social Media totally but still have access to my online games...and there are days when I do want to engage in Social Media.

I mean this is an old feature from phones in 2000s but apple is just good at branding and marketing it as if it was never done before
I absolutely fell in love with this feature when I found it and once it was all set up it was beautiful to see the wallpaper change the minute I got to college and all the notifications to be silenced a sectioned off. What a feature Apple!

I made a preaching focus mode that turns off all notifications and calls on all my devices, sets a custom Home Screen with the apps I need for preaching from my iPad, plus has a shortcut to open the Logos app and a service timer app in split view. It all triggers 15 minutes before our service begins and turns off about 30 minutes after our service usually ends.
My favorite part of focus is my watch recognizing I am working out and setting that focus to my iPhone and iPad. No more notifications on my iPad when working out! And love my new night home screen before bed.
Great video! My son was actually telling me how he liked the Focus feature on the new update. I just wasn’t sure if it was an app or setting as we weren’t able to get that far in the conversation. This video was helpful not only for the feature but for also thinking more about how to customize my pages on my phone. I have 2 basic pages with folders for those I have multiple types of apps for a theme. I’ve just been wanting something fresher looking lately. Thanks again for the info!
One thing I wish, for Focus mode, is the ability to create different app accounts for each mode. So each of your personal and professional social media profiles can be completely separate, yet they're using the same app... like with Firefox containers!
I have create my own focus mode called “ipads off” so everytime i put it on my iphone ,mi ipad a and ipad mini turns off the wifi ,the bluetooth , etc , i use it when im going out and want to save battery ^^D

Apple could’ve gone about this so much better and I want to quickly put my 2 cents in and how I think they could’ve made it better is by allowing for you to control the apps and widgets you from from within the settings app instead of having to do it from outside and via the Home Screen which usually takes quite abit longer.
Is there a way to reorder the home screens that are visible? On sleep mode it looks like iOS was able to automatically shows the customized Home Screen as my first page before it shows my default Home Screen. Also I love your videos. Please keep ‘me coming
Dude, there are multiple times you suggest a software idea and then in a few updates later from Apple, it’s available… so you either are a genius or hacked Apple and can see their Kanban board lol

I can't seem to find a way to do this and its the main reason I do not use focus at all. Yes you can have the app icon on one page and a widget on another but I haven't found a way to have 3 icons for 3 focus's on 3 pages or even two pages. Most apps still don't have widget support so this makes it impossible to
He replied in a different comment about this. You just need to go to the App Library and long press and drag to the new Home Screen you’ve made. It duplicates the app. The sleep mode does this automatically and I was wondering how the heck it did that but I couldn’t haha

For me, Focus modes are a way to organize my home screens. That's it. For example, there's no reason to ever see a home screen full of transit and lodging apps for SE Asia if I'm not in SE Asia. Given my use case, it frustrates me that there isn't an "allow all contacts" option when setting up these modes because they are never about having my phone impose self-discipline on me. I don't need to limit contacts or notifications. I just need to organize the interface for my needs at the moment. Apple needs to broaden it's imagination of how this feature can be used. It also frustrates me that I'm limited to 12 home screens. I need more. And I need to be able to customize the order in each Focus mode. Hopefully, this will come at some point.

So I love focus mode, but I keep resetting the Home Screen selections. Any word on them fixing that bug. It’s about 80% of the time it doesn’t switch the home screens like it should
I would love to be able to switch between rooms and or activate certain Siri Shortcuts when the focus mode turns on. Like I work across the street from my home and I have a different wifi connection. I would like for when I switch between personal and work focus to switch wifi settings.

Would be so good if you could set a focus called kids that blocks every app exept the ones you choose, I want to let my kids watch RUclips kids but not the regular one for example or Disney+ and I dont want them to be able to open my social media or any apps actually exept for the games that I let them play or watch what I let them watch. If focus would let me choose exactly what I want to see and use I could be a lot more comfortable with letting my kids use my devises
Hi Chris, I’m very interested in this video because although I’m retired, I have certain apps that I use each morning. A few language apps to try and learn a new language. I also have some games that I play with family members, such as words with friends and boggle. I set up a custom focus as you described, I named it, I close the apps I want to show in it although, boggle would not show even when I searched for it. I went through each screen as you said, but I don’t get a done screen. I’m using an iPad Pro with 16.4.1 update. I went through the steps many times and still nothing. What am I doing wrong?

If I just want to change the Home Screen, but allow ALL people and apps to notify me… is there a way to do that? I only see adding them one at a time and that is not worth it 😐
It just takes more effort compared to doing it in Android. In android there are separate apps for work mode so you can definitely not get bothered with work notifications if you are using the same app for personal use.
Great video. Very insightful! I like the idea of focus modes, but I don’t need it to stop all my call and text notifications for every focus mode. I guess I wish there were profiles more than focuses.
You can allow the messenger/calls apps themselves on the focus modes where you want everything coming through instead of individually selecting contacts
Simply question how to set focus to switching to specific screen I've did set up for focus. Let say I have a focus GYM, I don't wanna see on the screen any apps except I've setup for GYM focus mode. I don't know how to do that. Still I see everything like without focus mode on expect notifications only from apps I gave permission to. But I don't wanna see them on the screen. I don't wanna see any apps on the screen I didn't add to focus GYM mode. Hopefully you know what I mean 🙄 focus should make unnecessary apps invisible or something.

Lol I ended up just using different iPads for different purposes. Thus limiting interruptions. Working for me so far.

One should be able to change wallpapers for individual Home Screen pages to better differentiate the modes.
