Thanks for this video Quick tip, you don’t need automation to set focus mode on simple condition (time, location,…). You can set this in the focus mode itself
Fantastic, thanks for making a more step by step video. I setup my phone like this after your first video about a minimal setup, could not be happier. My screen time went down drastically, and I do feel like I am more productive on the tasks at hand.
Seriously a life changing tutorial for me - newbie to tech and mastering it is my goal - helping to organize the chaos is just so epic! thank you so very much for taking the time to make this!
This is awesome - couple of things: if you swipe to the far left you get the old widgets page. This is there across all pages no matter what focus mode you’re in. So I think putting your widget there would be better as you don’t have to waste space on the pages themselves and you have quick access no matter what page you’re on. (I think someone mentioned this below but wanted to give more detail) also - if you have an iPhone 15 Pro with an action button you can set that folder to the button and have a focus button essentially. Lots of nice ways to do this.
Thanks Tim, I have followed this drom your first video about minimalist screen too. It really works for me. I don't check my phone too much while on work. Always wait your new video Tim. 👍
This video has literally changed my life. I sincerely thank you for putting out this video, as well as some of the other helpful uploads that you've shared, it was extremely concise and aesthetically pleasing. I wish more creators would use the same approach and format. Cheers to you!
@@tylerbrooks0410 No unfortunately. I was at it for days. I am assuming there was an update to that app and/or the ios which doesn't allow you to chain those statements anymore
@ I figured it out after like an hour. Add the shortcut “Get current focus.” Then click the “Search Actions” at the bottom to add another shortcut called the “If” shortcut. Within the “If” shortcut, change the “Icon” to “Focus,” and make sure it says “If Current Focus has any value.” Then remove the “Otherwise” portion of the “If” shortcut by pressing the X on the right side. Then, press the “Search Actions” again to add another shortcut, being the “Set Focus” shortcut. Change “Do Not Disturb” to “Current Focus.” Finally, drag the “Set Focus” shortcut you just added right below the “If” shortcut, and it should connect.
Great! The explanation was straightforward and to the point, with no unnecessary talk! Unlike other RUclipsrs, where even after watching, you still have no idea how to proceed.
Thank you! I set up my apps to be within shortcuts folders, so setting everything up with the same icons and colors even between focus modes is SO NICE! I knew there would be someone out there who knew how to do this. Thanks again!
i do not have the "Get Current Focus" shortcut. I just installed ios 17.4 and restarted and it still does not show up. Any reason why that might be, and what I can do to get it to show up? Thanks
This is the best and most revolutionary video I've watched in a long time, so useful! I'm gonna set these focus modes asap, hopefully my productivity and attention increase! Thank you sm!!
When I am on my home screen, let's say on work focus, is there a way to avoid the fact that if I swipe to the left I get my whole apple library show up?
wow great work! 🎉 i have some tipps maybe: you can put the widget in the sidebar on the left, so you have a lot more space on the homescreen. the automation with your sleep mode you can also setup in the sleep part of health, where you can set different times for the weekend.
When you press add action, there should be “scripting” in the list of blue words. Scroll down to “device,” and there will be “get current focus.” From there press “if,” and you should be able to essentially fill in the blanks until it reads like what he said.
"I was stuck on the same stage for 20 minutes and I found out. After creating the first shortcut 'Get current focus,' you need to search again and create another one with just 'set focus' and make it similar to fitness or driving but for relaxation. Place it right under the first shortcut, and that works fine."
I’ve been doing this for a while now. On working days I have set up and on my days of I have a certain set up. Even in the times that I need to read my Bible I named quality time with God. After 20:15 I don’t receive notifications and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done
1. At first you pick "Get Current Focus". 2. Then you set the IF conditon: Search in the search box for "If" and set up "If - Current Focus - has any value") 3. After step 2 you search in the search box for "Set Focus". Choose it. 4. A new box should have been added -> Turn - Do Not Disturb - Off. You can move the box by holding it. 5. I have iphone 11. Can I do this on my phone? How do you get the focus mode were to come across your screen in such a big font? ❤ Ohh so when the words came across the screen work, Fitnes Drive in chill, that was not on your phone that was on the screen for us to see, correct?
@Tim is it possible to change Home Screen Wallpaper, with Focus Mode. Your example shows us how to change Lock Screen Wallpaper based on Focus Mode, but I hope changing Home Screen wallpaper is also an option.
I added new Home Screen with color and custom focus modes with the same colors to match. Added the shortcuts and the widget but every change that i do changes in all of the modes. Idk what’s wrong
Great tutorial! One question; when I create the chill focus mode the way you explained (I chose an orange background), and let's say I'm currently in the fitness focus mode.. When I switch to chill, the background colour stays on the fitness focus background colour and doesn't turn into the chill mode background colour. It does however change the apps to the chill mode page I selected, just not the colour. Any ideas?
Very good video and great tipps. Thank you. :) But one thing i like to mention is that switching to a specific focus mode on a set time is one of the basic functions of focus modes. You don’t need to create an automation for this. :p
5. Genius! What is needed now. Great job! Thank you^ Tim! And I have a question. How do you track the progress of your tasks? I use Apple notes and Apple reminders and would like some kind of visualization like a progress bar, but I didn't find any additions. Other programs have, but such functionality is only in pro versions, and maybe I'm looking in the wrong direction and the problem is in the system itself. I'm not sure. I'll be glad if you answer. Thank you.
My biggest pain point: you can still see all the notifications in the Notification Center and there’s no way to remove that. I should see all the notifications that I missed once I turn off that particular focus mode and not during the focus mode.
Tim good day i just want to ask the model of printer you are using thank you for the answer more power to your channel im always watching on your youtube channel thank you
So everything is set up and working my only problem is the symbols on each focus are just the general settings icon and a random colour, I’ve selected an icon and colour for each focus and saved but they don’t show up?
On the second part of the code, search “set focus” under search apps and actions, then turn where it says the focus mode(such as do not disturb or which ever one you have set) to “current focus” then change the last value of the code to “off” instead of “on until turned off” I think after you move that string up to just below the first part of the code and delete “otherwise” it should work correctly
I want to set up that my iPhone automatically switches on specific time from vibrate to silent. What is the easiest way to do this? So i want all the notifications and everything, only to vibrate that switches to silent.
When you press add action, there should be “scripting” in the list of blue words. Scroll down to “device,” and there will be “get current focus.” From there press “if,” and you should be able to essentially fill in the blanks until it reads like what he said.
I think having a distinct Home Screen for each mode can be useful, but how might you be able to include the same app for two different modes? Example, Chill mode is effectively no focus and has its own screen. Drive mode has Google Maps included for obvious reasons. Personally, I frequently refer to Google maps when I have a random idea to look up a type of location (maybe I want to know what “Chinese food” venues are around) but I’m not driving. I wouldn’t want to go into Drive focus for a simple lookup.
This is a helpful video but could’ve been made a lot simpler. Firstly, you can setup the Sleep Focus to turn on automatically a certain amount of time before your scheduled bedtime. Second, the Drive Focus already has a setting to automatically when connected to your car stereo or when in motion.
Yup, you can choose which apps you want to get notifications from for each focus mode. Eg. I block personal emails & messages when in work mode, and block work emails when in chill mode.

make a page with one app then assign it to a focus mode. Then later on just hold down on the app and press delete and the page will stay there
