A while back Dan I commented on your narrowboat channel that it was your fault that I intended to live on a narrowboat. LOL. Well now after discovering your trains channel I have to tell you that it is your fault that I am now into model railways and Metcalfe Card Kits. LOL. I have to say that I am having the most tremendous fun. It is great to start something completely new in your seventies.
Rest in peace Dan. I may not have always agreed with you on certain matters but you shall be well remembered by all who have liked and subscribed or just watched your videos because we had nothing else to do (me)
Why aren’t you posting anymore this was awesome you really should post more
He has another channel I just saw I n the links
Thank you! 1 year after your comment... my new layout is almost finished!
"Best ofs" are always dangerous ground, so hopefully no one gets too snippy. I have never done Metcalfe, but seeing them in videos enough, they definitely give "bang for the buck" as we say in America. Like any model- high end to cheaper to scratch build, there will always be a bit of "touch up" that takes it from model to layout standout. Cheers!
Cheers Dan. Enjoyed that (especially the “outburst” 😂)
The church kit looks great Dan I agree that they are great kits. Keep your videos coming all the best
Excellent kits with very good detail. Well done
Thank you Dan,what an enthusiastic and pleasant person you are. Those kits are great to construct as well.
Hi Dan, good to see you back, great review, got to say I love these card kits myself, keep up the good work.
Happy that you posted another video! I'm getting bored with lockdown here in Ohio! Stay safe and stay healthy!
Nice one Dan,i prefer the Metcalfe kits to Superquick as they are easier to build and the instructions are easier to follow...however my good lady likes the Superquick kits better as she says the colours look better and the buildings are more interesting! But i prefer them both to the expensive Hornby plastic kits anyway, and its really nice to build kits like this as you are getting a lot of enjoyment for not that much money :)
Just made my first Metcalfe 00 kit. Brilliant! Thanks.
I can't believe I've been watching your canal boats videos for the last 3 or 4 years and only today found this channel.
Didn't know you were into model railways ?. Im currently about to start building one myself, going back to my childhood I suppose.
Great chanel and metcalf models are brilliant.
I have to
agree with your views on Metcalfe kits. I was sceptical at first but having built a couple now I am impressed.
Hi Dan. I utterly agree with you about the quality and value for money of the Metcalfe kits - ab fab! I must congratulate you on how good your completed kits look.
Nice work Dan, look forward to seeing them in place on the railway layout
Great video Dan. You sell the point of these Metcalfe kits very well. I've got an unbuilt 'N' engine shed but after watching this video I'm going to get some more Metcalfe kits. Keep you the great work Dan
I am really impressed by your building skills Dan, you have done a first class job. How about a running session on the railway? Have you got any new locos or rolling stock?
I'm afraid I am still mainly running my little Terrier! I would love to bulk out my rolling stock but I think with the current situation I am going to be facing somewhat of a "budget realignment!" So I may have to cut infrastructure costs! 😂
@@SortOfInterestingTrains Very wise words. I have been working on my layout today. The KRC (Kitchen Railway Company) Just uploading to RUclips. None of my stock is under 25 years old and some a lot older.

Beautiful models and well put together.
I would say Metcalfe make the best card kits. I’d like to see their new castle kit when it’s released but I’d rather have a bigger range of housing.
Doing the edges does make a world of difference, really finishes it off. You must be thanking yourself for stocking up on model making kit before the lockdown kicked in!
Superquick and Scalescenes are both very good too.
Dan Dan . Great video mate. Ive made quite a few metcalfe kits in n and oo. Really enjoy them and find them very satisfying. Just got my hands on the gardeners cottage in n gauge
Are you coming back to RUclips?
We miss ya when have you been??
Nicely done,thanks for sharing,,😊
Metcalfe only problem is , need more kits to build , best kits by some distance
I agree metcalfe kits are the best
I think it’s time for a Sunday cooking video Dan?? Miss that.👍🏻
I think those Metcalf kits look class. I want to go for a pint in that pub
hi dan whats on ? no narrowboat adventures for a while now ? hope your ok and still on ables ark colin
The metcalfe kits are nice but I still think they are a bit costly considering you can pick up superquick 00 kits for 6 quid if you know where to look.
Hi Dan, how's the layout coming on?
I am really getting into Scalescenes of late.
Regards Chris
Hello... sorry about the 4 month delay in my reply! You may have seen my latest run of videos, I decided to start afresh at the beginning of the year and I am happy to say that I am now only about 2 weeks from finishing a simple single desktop layout!
Gosh, I hope that somebody has called the fire brigade for that church.
Hi Dan luv yo channel. Can I ask? do you coat the finished product with a plastic satin sealer spay or somthing so they dont start to look old and damp after a few years? thanks in advance. William
Hello, thanks! So far I haven't coated them in anything, but it is definitely something I am interested in figuring out. I will have to try spraying a few different finishing on some simple sheets to see how the ink etc reacts!
Are you still alive my freind? You inspired me to start my own channel, but now i realise your last upload was 5 months ago... Its tough times these days, so i hope you're doing well.
This looks to good to be true
Excellent video Dan. I really like the look of some of these buildings from Metcalfe.
I must give one a try myself. But I’m not someone who’s ever been very good at craft stuff, bit hamfisted tbh 🙈
Which one, in your experience would you recommend as a first attempt? I have a ready made n Gauge layout which has a couple of them already on it, and I’ll also be attempting to make my own simple 00 gauge layout as soon as the hardware shops re-open.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again, and keep up the good work 👍👍
I'd say the simplest one I have done is the low relief terraced houses, but a good kit for beginners is the "Manor farm" as it has a few different buildings, some simple barn type structures, a small house and a bigger manor house. So lots of different options to get the general idea of how these go together and to pick up the hang of things!
Sort Of Interesting Trains Excellent. Thanks Dan. Might order myself one of those and rewatch your How To videos 👍👍
Sort Of Interesting Trains Hey Dan 😊 I’ve ordered a couple of Metcalfe kits...couldn’t get the Manor Farm, Metcalfe are totally closed now so stock in Hatton’s are very low. Managed to pick a small railway newsstand and some market stall type things.
Quick question though. What glue did you use for your buildings? Someone suggested Deluxe Card Glue, but thought I’d check with you first since you’ve done so many 😀😀
Hi dan, is the church and graveyard all one kit?
The church and the lych gate are from one kit, the graves and walls are plaster moulded accessories that I found on eBay!
Hi mate, love ur videos, will there be anymore videos or are you quitting Yt?
wow !
Hi mate any more vids comming? how are you trains going? Cheers. William.
Hello! Apologies for the 4 month delay! You may have seen that since the start of the year I have managed to really get stuck into (and now almost completed) a desktop layout!
Nice to see you Danny boy, good vid 👍
Hi dan, love watching all your videos and I'm in awe of your builds. Im a complete beginner and i simply cant decide on n or oo gauge. My area is 2000mm x 1000mm and i want to build a similar country scene like yours. What do you think? Thanks in advance
Nice job Dan what's happening with your other channel?? Miss your scenery vids.
I was all set for a big return, I made a soundproof recording studio, new equipment etc etc... and life just kept getting in the way... until coronavirus happened. So for the time being I am considering it as an indefinite hold until we have some clarity about what is going to happen in the country and when!
Hi Dan, my N gauge layout will be excess of 30' in length and some of the train/track runs will not be far off and I am worried about track noise. Having spoken to exhibitors on exhibition layouts they say they lay there track directly onto the plywood board, stating that the noise after ballasting remains the same even if you put foam or cork under the track. Now that is alright at exhibitions but my layout is going up in the loft. So I am at a loss as whether to lay straight onto the plywood board or use 2mm cork or Woodland Scenics Track-Bed. Can you offer any advice please as I get so much conflicting advise on the internet and wonder what your thoughts on it are.
Regards Chris
I will try and find an example of my trains running with and without foam ballast. In my experience the foam has massively cut down noise! I will report back at some point in the next few hours if I can find examples for you!
Ok, So I have finally reported back! and annoyingly it seems that at every moment I had my track just sat on the wooden tabletop (even in my old OO gauge videos) I had the clip muted and was talking over the top!
Did you enjoy your 'trip' yesterday? Henry.
Can we get a new update on your layout?!
Very interesting
Whens the next video gonna be?
Hey buddy, hope you're doing ok. :)
superquick are better value surely
Hi dan hope everythink ok not had an update in a while
You gave up, didn't you? Yeah, you gave up.
I moved back onto a boat! The models and everything are in storage and I have some kits I’ve been playing with onboard, by spring I will have somewhere permanent to keep the layout again!
