@@kindnessfirst9670 Wrong. Bruce only wrote the chorus. He gave her a cassette tape with it, told her she could have it. She didn't listen to it fir a long time, then one day on an impulse played it. She immediately wrote all the other lyrics, about 3:49 her longing for her lover (future husband) Fred "Sonic" Smith when he was in Detroit and she was in NYC.

Little known fact is she was Eddie Van Halen first choice to replace David Lee Roth. She turned the offer down because she was pregnant and didn't want be a part of the VH machine as she called it because they were the biggest band in the world then.

@@CuirPhotodotNet She turned it down (duh) because she never works for anybody but herself. She's said many times, "I can only be a general, never a soldier." Bob Dylan invited her to join him on his Rolling Thunder tour, and she didn't do that either. She collaborates with people like Michael Stipe from time to time, but she is her own independent writer, musician, and visual artist.

@@blackpilledchad1927 This is great as is her recording from 1978. But Springsteen's is the original. He gave her a copy of his recording so she could put a cover of it on her album so she could have a hit single and get much needed radio play. That's why she thanked him at the beginning of this video and has gushed about Bruce in numerous articles about this song and the impact it had on her career and life. She did change some of his original lyrics though.

Not that good of a singer, nothing to look at, I just don't get it! A media creation!
She is the godmother of punk and she views herself more as a lyric writer than a singer. And she for sure is not a media creation, since she never had a super commercially succesful album. She has many influences on important people in different areas of the arts. maybe read some background info before commenting
