If you could fly domestic first class or semi-private for nearly the same price, which would you choose? Today we'll be comparing the two while Nate flies first class to Denver on Alaska Airlines and Kara flies Semi-Private with JSX. Watch as we compare everything from arrival, security, lounges, food, baggage claim, and everything in between. Hopefully when all is said and done, you'll be able to tell us, would you rather fly domestic first class or semi-private?

it's when it gets round trip - JSX is 'about' 2x the cost for round trip for normal flight and maybe like 1.5x for last minute flights

The worst part of air travel is the people. If semi-private flying minimizes that at a similar price, that's a win for me.

We'd leave at 3am in the morning and I'd usually be back by dinner on the same day depending on where we were testing. I'd pick it every time over commercial!

Coming from someone who has only flown first class once, I’d definitely go the semi-private route, hands down. My least favorite part of flying is the airport. I often say if I could wiggle my nose like Samantha and zap myself to my destination, that would be perfect, but only because of the airport, I really don’t mind the actual flights. And bonus points if you get my reference 😂

According to JetFleets, the EMB-135s and 145s flown by JSX are an average of 22.7 years old. Not necessarily a knock--they look well-maintained, and airplanes are engineered to last. I would pick JSX if I was going point-to-point, big airline first class if I had to connect.

JSX has pretty limited routes, but if one of these was convenient I'd certainly try it. I did notice that each leg is priced individually, so if you have a connection the time/price would almost certainly be higher than a non-stop commercial flight. And of course, the Centurion clubs get pretty crowded, so no guarantee you'll get in during certain times.

I checked a couple of similar routes flown by both JSX and Alaska (which - full disclosure - is my go-to airline whenever possible) and JSX seemed cheaper than Alaska First Class (but more expensive than Alaska Premium Economy)...still, not a big difference and certainly a consideration if one wishes to avoid the hassles of navigating a large airport. Sadly, JSX doesn't have any service up here in the upper left-hand corner of the map - although some other semi-private business class companies might - so I will just have to dream of the possibilities...

To avoid everything related to flying commercial (pre-lounge), obnoxious TSA, long lines, general anxiety related to going through security… I would definitely without a doubt choose Private! For the apparent lack of food, it seems like that would be compensated by getting food before your flight since you only need to show up 30 min early!

My husband is celebrating 35 years with AA/American eagle, now envoy based out of DFW. He told me that jsx bought EMB145 jets that were built in 1997. That's why they look older and don't have USB ports

I would choose the commercial airline experience. I love lounges and the entire airport experience!

Should've visited Alaska's flagship first class lounge at SEA's N concourse.

In this situation definitely semi private. If it was a normal weekend where prices were probably a bit more different and I had lounge access i probably would pick commercial.

    Definitely the commercial flight😊

I liked both options for different reasons but if they were the same price, and I didn’t have access to a lounge beforehand, than I’d choose semi private. If lounge was included and I had time to kill, than I’d choosd commercial business/first. Anything is better than regular economy 😆

I'm not American and don't have the Koru Air New Zealand, the only domestic lounge pass. That said, if there was a Regional Private Jet in New Zealand between North and South Island or a business working like the Dead Head company Downie Live showed, and the flights cost the same as Koru annual + ticket ((500NZD + 200NZD), then I'd take the Private if I already paid for Lounge access I'd choose the airline every time.

Thats the thing with private jet - no security check mandated. Rich people can just do the heck they want.

If the same price I’d say private! Would rather have all inclusive on the plane than in the airport. Plus traveling always gives me a bit of anxiety 😬 private seems more chill 👍🏽

Semi Private. If flying commercial I enjoy the lounges and flying first class but I would choose less time at the airport every time.

Semi Private for me. I'll love to skip the wait and don't mind skipping the plate at the lounge.🎉

I have my own plane, I’d choose semi private every time. With that said I love the atmosphere of most airport terminals,it’s the energy, the planes views and the people.

IF the prices were same/close I would definitely fly the semiprivate. No question. Walking into the terminal 20 minutes before your flight, crazy fast security with free food, drinks, snacks onboard beats the lounge experience. Seems like lounging is great if you have to spend hours in the airport in advance of your flight... I'd rather just get there hop on and GO. PLUS the added benefit of relaxed pet transport on the semiprivate is such an amazing perk!!.
