Great tutorial! I am working a friends Dell desktop with Windows 7 and it's the same process that you explained here. I was able to save all their pics, vids, music ect.. Thanks
Had my laptop for almost a year, I'm just now making my dell backup DVDs. I have the os, driver, and software DVDs from when I got it. I also occasionally create a full hard drive image. Dell support also sent me a factory image utility on a USB. Never actually had to use it but its nice having multiple backup sources.
Those windows license stickers have a tendency of coming off, especially if you use the computer on your lap. Put a piece of clear packing tape over it when you first get it.
Check and see if you have advanced options once inside the datasafe program. If so, it will allow you to choose the partition to reinstall windows.
@Mohammed Yes, the recovery process deletes any partitions and associated data created by the user. It's purpose is to 'recover' your computer's os to the exact state it was when the computer was shipped. This is how recovery software has worked for many years. The logistics and functions involved in relocating, copying and moving data and partitions that have been added by the user, even without user interaction, are well beyond the simple purpose of this utility.

I am about to do this, so thank you. but I have saved my data manually on an external drive now, because I really need the data and dont trust a program :D. but thanks for showing it all in such detail, that way I am not so scared about it :)
How long can this take? I know it depends on how large of files you are backing up are but on the average ?

Make sure you are using the same windows OS service pack you were using when you made the backup.

I'm trying to get my laptop back to factory settings, so far were talking Datasafe to use, however I was not on my Laptop (Dell Inspiron N4050), then installed it, even more than opening it within the operating system when I go to conficurações the back of manufactures, repair it in your computer, put the password, the more it will not appear in the options (Dell DataSafe Restore and Emergency Backup). How do I show up?
Some manfuactures started placing the COA sticker under the battery... ideal place, protects it from prying eyes and keeps it from physical damage(torn/fade/etc).
sir can I help this to fix dell inspiron mini 1018 because my laptop is very slow about 3 years ago the problem is the hard drive has been error or cannot see the dell data safe backup
It is not clear to me if this procedure recovers application programs that were installed on computer, or do they need to be reinstalled?

I have backed up windows 7 using dell data safe to a USB. Also the backed up image contains many software, however I'm unable to reinstall using data safe image on USB.

I am stuck trying to open the emergency file containing all my files that's on the desktop created after using the dell datasafe restore. I have been able to recover my photos, but I can't seem restore my games, microsoft word, and other such programs. Is there something I'm missing?

What does the Archived System back up button do?? I accidentally pressed that instead of restart button now my screen is stuck in the dell datasafe modes last page

In my user manual it says press f8 when dell logo appears on startup to do a factory reinstall, but I started my laptop and then opened Dell Datasafe program while my computer was running, and did it from there, is this ok?

I need help. When I open Dell DataSafe in Windows it says that it can't detect my Recovery Partition. I checked it in Disk Manager and it's there in helathy condition. Can you tell me how to make DataSafe detect it again?

I have got as far as clicking on restart. when it restarts it goes to black screen and cursor with an error msg sayin 'logon initialization failure' help!
Your welcome, windows 8 in my opinion will be replace within only a couple years. The radical change in look, is causing a lot of users to resist this OS. Thanks for watching

I get to the point of the "System Recovery Options" and i have every option there BUT the "Dell DataSafe Restore..." option...
I keep trying to use this but every time I open the Dell DataSafre Restore and Emergency Backup Tool it freezes. The DataSafe does open and shows the two options, but that's it. I cannot move past that point or quite the tool. I end up having to use the computer reset because the computer is completely frozen. I have a Inspiron 14Z 5423 if that helps.
This tool lives and runs on a separate partition of your hard drive. I would guess that this partition is damaged in some way and that's why it doesn't work. The Dell support site does have a download to reinstall this tool if you want to try that.

Hi - I have the application file and all the dsb files in "c"\Emergency". when I start the app, it says it's looking for a #355 file, but the largest dsb file created was #282 and it did say that the backup was successful - how do I restore those files? do I need the pro version of Dell datasafe?

If the dell data safe is not listing you will not be able to recover from the partition as it is damaged or missing. You will need to obtain a system restore disk for your particular computer.
