It has nothing to with work ethic.
It has to do with the fact that trucking has poor benefits and pay compared to other options.
Fewer and fewer people want to be gone from their home life for 70 hours a week for $50,000.

My boys are 9 and 12, I have 9 vehicles in my shop and I gave 5 of them to my boys, and truthfully, if I don't do this they probably won't have cool old cars cause prices are going through the roof, told them I'm not fixing or building them without their help

That's great man, Proud of that kid. Especially learning in such an old school rig. No real Creature comforts maybe with the exception of Power Steering or Optional A/C? Either way super cool LOVE the interior!. I'm only 23, but I've been wanting an old Cabover for a couple years now. Just not that much in Michigan. since i don't want a *Common* rig. More into the Ford CL9000s and GMC Astros. I Would love to run with some of the Gravel Train Big dogs.

Brother you’d be surprised what you can find. You have to look for those folks who don’t sell up to market value they want to sell/almost hand over to someone they know will cherish it like they did. I learned that when buying a home and folks went with lesser price buyer because those folks loved the home instead of higher buyer who kept yapping about these needs to go that needs to be changed ect ect. Patience will get you what you want. 👌🎯🥃

These days kids hate being told to wash dishes and clean their rooms. Imagine if they were told get off the game system, put the phone down and come build this truck with me, it would be WW3. They would scream abuse. Lol
Props to that hard working kid. Hes got a good head on his shoulders. Seeing the work he put in to the truck, hes going to retire with millions of dollars.
I suspect most kids would help their dad build a truck especially if it was the kids truck, lots of parents buy their kids games as babysitters and as a way to avoid being asked to do anything with their kids

Large scale implementation of autonomous trucking is decades away according to industry sources. Jobs like flatbed, oversize and cattle hauling will be safe long after dry van and reefers are put out of work by autonomous trucks.

Doubtful, if there's a sentimental bond. I still own my first rig, bought it from my uncle in 1998. He bought it new, 362 Peterbilt 350 big cam, aluminum frame, 230wb. He's passed away so it will remain in our family until there's no one left to love it
