Here's a tip about pliers and channel locks with rubberized handles: Use the handles to grip the aerator to avoid damaging any chrome surfaces. This way, you won't need a towel, except for cleaning up wet spots.
I'm confused. I thought clockwise (right) was supposed to tighten. It looks like you are loosening it clockwise. I thought right was clockwise and left was counterclockwise. Maybe I'm not seeing it right.
