I gotta make sure my wife doesn't see this video or she's going to make me do this in our house!! Another great looking project with easy to follow instructions. Well done.
HAHA Ya I'm sure your not the only husband saying that to themselves after watching this video :) Thanks for watching and the support Billy. Keep up the good work on your channel as well.
I've done quite a few of these. A couple tips for anyone thinking of doing this. 1) If you have a tracksaw it's cheaper to cut your own strip. I did this primarily because I wanted hard edges and not beveled ones that the pre-primed material comes with. 2) If you do tip 1 make sure that you pre-prime the edges and light sand twice to get a seal before spraying which was my method. 3) Use wood filler spackle to fill holes. It is more dence and doesn't leave dimples when sanding. 4) The best method I have found for not having to worry as much about studs is to use no nail glue on the back to back pieces. 5) Cauling the edges stops tiny gaps from showing up over time and looks much better on the finish. 6) Make sure you use a low flow tip if spraying or your house with get dusted with paint lol. Learned that the hard way the first time I used a sprayer.
Nice job. I've done similar projects and a tip for those homeowners wanting to take this on: consider an initial coat of primer (though the MDF used in this video is pre-primed), use quality paint, make sure you inspect your project from many and all different angles to ensure you didn't miss any 'blind spots'. Also when you go to sand the spackle flat, make sure you get it perfectly smooth. A contractor won't necessarily care, but as a homeowner, all these trim pieces will eventually attract dust on their top sides and need to be dusted. If there are any little sharp bits left behind to snag your duster, it will. It's just a royal pain and it looks like crap to have bits of duster hanging from your project.
When I do a project like this I never face nail. Toe nail everything. You save a ton of time with filling and sanding and don’t forget. It’s the professional way of doing this kind of work.
We do similar stuff. We do 10 degrees for splice, but we always break them over a stud to help prevent the joint from cracking down the road. Looks great, my sister wants this in her house.
Great to hear you enjoyed the project Carlito and love to hear that I have fans in the Philippines. Thanks so much for your support and PLENTY more videos to come :)
just brought a new build home and we will be doing things like this and get the value up with accent walls and a stone wall accent as well. I also watched this video 4 times though to make sure I understand everything

@@BYOTools Respectfully, there are SO many steps you’ve that you call “professional” that absolutely aren’t. You didn’t put a 1/8” mdf board down behind the 1x2. No pro puts accent trim right over drywall. For that size wall it would’ve run you 120 bucks in material and glue. I say glue because when is pros do these walls we use little to no nails. No nails means no nail holes. No nail holes means no nail holes to fill. We’ve tried everything..every manner of sparkle, bondo you can think of. The only thing that leaves a flawless finish is not nailing at all. Then you used a white caulk with a dark paint and proceeded to use WAAAAAY too much. Friend, that is going to crack out like a MUUUUUUUUUUUG. Your wall will look like a zebra in 3 months guaranteed. Yes, you can touch it up, but it’ll crack out again and again and again. You didn’t CA glue your joints like you should - that’s gonna crack out - the paint you’ve chosen is not ideal for brush touch up (which you’ll need to do ALOT bc the problem with dark colored walls like the one you’ve chosen is they’re now gonna act. Like a chalkboard. Any kid with a fingernail will write their name on there.) I’m a PM in resi construction and my trim guys who do this for a living on my million dollar builds make good money bc they’ve learned through trial and error that about 9 different thing you’ve done here will result in a terrible looking wall. Thanks for you detailed video. I am a rookie and sawing and measuring but my wall came out great. Getting a lot of compliments. Had to pat myself on back
Awesome! As I was seeing you work every aspect of the accent wall, I was like : Man, I have every single one of the tools needed for the job and the tutorial, so what's preventing me now from doing it? I got to make it happend. Thanks a bunch!
Thanks for such a great video. I’m not really a handyman guy but I will do my best once my house 🏡 is completely built by June, my only issue will be I will be installing a 86” TV on the center of the wall.
Looks great! I did an accent wall this past weekend with wood slats across it. Looks great but was a lot of work since we used wood, like you said it bows out sometimes and was a pain to work with. One thing I’d recommend on yours is to replace the wall outlets and covers with black ones! Personal preference but I think it would look more seamless instead of white ones on the black wall.
Hello Byot, The color in the entrance hallway was very beautiful. A modern design with strong lighting. Occasional color and location changes are exciting. Congratulations. Health to your hands.🙂👍👏🙌
Its beautiful i just bought a new house and seen this in some of the houses i was looking at and im gonna try to do it at my new place good job man looks amazing

Ha ha, you'll do it because you love her and are a good husband, I sense you are 🙂
we'll be moving into our new home in a month and I'm brushing up on my studies. My wife has a wall picked out for this (or another pattern) already

What is a tricksaw and how is it cheaper?
@@rosemarybeyer8752 Its cheaper if you are a carpenter, its a saw that runs on tracks and saves a few coins on getting a shop to cut it for you

Can u tell me how wide he used ?
Like how wide r those lines
2inch? Or less than that?
@@ummeibrahim7461 - 1" x 2" MDF trim. He said that in the video. But actual size is 3/4 x 1 1/2 "
Just built this and gotta tell u … ppl are impressed … thx so much
LOVE hearing this and thanks so much for sharing. Please send a picture if you can or tag me in a post. Would love to see the finished product.

Brent!!! This is great. People are loving the new MDF trim on accent walls. Great video!!
So good to hear Mitch and my thoughts exactly. Thanks for all the support.
Wifey wanted me to build one for the nursery and this is one of those designs i like!! Nice work bro!!
Really great, simple way to jazz up a space. And wonderful to hear Miriam Makeba, daughter of South Africa 🇿🇦 at the end
Absolutely beautiful! Love the voice and oh, the color of the wall too. Lol
Love hearing that Tonya and thanks so much for your support.

Excellent tutorial! You the real MVP. I followed your steps, completed this project in about 6 hours.
Around how much was your entire project
@@liljune8209 $230. $100 of that total was rental of the chop saw and nail gun.

Hey Brent, what an interesting twist to a feature wall. i love it!

you my friend are the BOMB!!!!! you made me feel like i can do this myself. very informative yet you kept it simple and thorough. NICE!!!!
this looks INCREDIBLE! I love the color
$$$$+ idea and $$$- cost. Super elegant DIY project.
I did something similar. Matte black background and glitter black gloss tape on top. Turned out gorgeous!
Thanks for you detailed video. I am a rookie and sawing and measuring but my wall came out great. Getting a lot of compliments. Had to pat myself on back
Nice job and thanks for explaining how to achieve this look !!!
I used your tutorial to make an accent wall for our church’s video studio! Thanks for making a video that was super helpful and easy to follow!
Finally doing this over the weekend. Took me 2 years to muster up the courage. Thank u so much it's gorgeous 😍
how did it go
I love your Miriam Makeba Pata Pata music at the end of the video as well❤
wearing a mask alone, outdoors and indoors.....wow, this is better than anything on Netflix.
What a special guy.
🤮
This guy is a total idiot. I don’t care how “cReAtIvE” he tries to be. Lost all credibility by doing that.
Indeed, it's beautiful.
Class job. Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪
Thank you for this video. It’s just what I’m looking for and I love all your details. Thank you.
That's really good, I recommend using Floetrol for latex paint to prevent the orange peel you got on the MDF trim, it comes out smoother
Nice timing i was just looking for a nice wall design thank you
Great accent wall, even greater with the Miriam Makeba song. Lol

Thanks so much for the kind words Lisa and great to hear you enjoyed the project.
Thank you for the ideas, cheering you from Miami
Wow that wall looks amazing
This project looks really cool! Nice result and great color choice! Now let’s convince wifey to do something similar!! 😁
Haha right?! Thanks so much Jerome and keep up the great work on your channel.

You should do it for her as a surprise; and if she hates it at least you still love it and it's already done. Lol
Difficult part to convince 😕 😪 wifey....
Nice fit with the modern door and sidelite window.
Great job man, really thought you did awesome in prepping and finishing!
I litteraly just liked and subscribed because of the song at the end😂🙌.Wow!
I really didn't expect that🤯😂🇿🇦
Thank you for the tips. I just did this wall and it took basically 2 day. And it turned out fantastic
Love it. Will keep it in mind for my apartments
Sweet work and sweet music to wrap up the video.
