You are treating the dungeon like a basement. It was not. The dungeon was 2.5 stories below the main level.
Yes I did thank you
You going to do one of All in the Family home and the 1989 Batman movie Masion? Batman the movie would be very cool. would be interesting to see the tunnel from the roads secret entrance to the underground part of the Mansion
@@wraith20072007 I'll definitely be doing "All in the Family." 😊
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane Awesome!
For a house of it's era and style, the "Mystery Room" would probably have been a parlor, or what as kids we called the "Don't Go Into" room. A room reserved for entertaining, when the preacher came to call, or when Marilyn had gentleman callers.
That's exactly the conclusion I came to. I said to myself, "Parlor!" I would have guessed that it might be a more formal auxiliary space for entertaining guests. You took the words right out of my mouth. :-)
Ironically, I think we get the term "funeral parlor" from the fact that back in the day people would have the corpse of family members lie in state in the parlor of their house so that friends and family could come to their home and see the body in the fanciest room of the house. So that room in the Munster's house, if it were a parlor, would literally be a room where dead bodies would be put on display.
eek! I didn't know that. Well, that would fit with their home, that's for sure.
In a tv homes floor plan book I have, that room is labeled as "Herman's library", so this diagram is close
@@jonnaking3054 What's the name of that book? I would love to get a copy.
So beautiful! I jumped when Spot shot out the fire and roared! Lol That was great!
Enjoy the weekend!
Haha! Perfect.
Oh so cool! I really like that you put a coffin at the top of those stairs in Eddie's room. I remember Lily telling Eddie to use the "heavier lid" because it was going to be chilly at night. 😊
I hadn't remembered that. Thanks.
Hi Marina. It was the A House Divided Episode." It was Eddie's birthday.
@@kimroy6640 Thanks.
That was great! Thank you so much, I plan on doing something in my life with set designing, and I just adore the munsters' home!
Good luck. Hope I see your name in the credits someday.
Loved both The Munster's house tours. I still pop the Munster' s episodes in once in a while. I always wondered more about the layout of the house. Thank You.
Oh good. Glad you liked the tours.
Fantastic Marina ! ! ! Loved It ! ! ! I guess I'm still a kid because I still love Grandpa's Dungeon. Enjoyed seeing Eddie's coffin loft. I would have made the kitchen stairs do a 180 and end up at the suit of armor secret door to get to second floor! What Fun ! ! ! Thank You Again ! ! !
😊
I absolutely loved this, Marina. This TV home is one of the special ones for me, because it's got a lot of nooks and crannies in the background to explore. I just think the background rooms and nooks and crannies add a little more mystery to a set, and make the entire space appear much larger than it actually is. As for the little room in grandpa's dungeon that sat to the left of the stairwell as you're facing it, I always pictured that to be a much larger space - maybe even leading to a huge catacomb where ancestors are buried or entombed. Seeing as the footprint of the home is over 6,000 sq ft, and given the Munster family's personality, I could see this as very plausible. I think exploring these spaces is so much fun. I think I told you once before, I modeled the Cielo Drive home of Sharon Tate. True, it wasn't a TV or movie home. But it was an interesting space to explore, as I decorated it exactly as it looked the night of the murders. I'm kind of an existentialist, so modeling this home in 3-D made me feel like I was actually there. When I did the video, I added some incredibly sinister music, and the whole thing had you looking over your shoulder in fright. Certainly nothing to celebrate, but it was a very interesting space to recreate as I pictured the perilous events that took place. Sorry to get macabre on you, but I love exploring famous homes of all kinds - both fictional and factual. Another home I modeled was the Jean Bennet Ramsey home in Denver. That one never made it to RUclips, but speaking of nooks and crannies, that one was indeed a very haunting and peculiar space to walk through. Including the basement where the murder took place, you have (if memory serves) 4-floors of space to explore. The house is incredibly large and rambling, so you kind of felt like a sleuth as you sort of spirited through it. Then reading the timeline of events that occurred in the 24 hour period that the murder took place as you floated through the house made you actually feel like you were really there, trying to solve the mystery. Again, sorry if I sound all creepy. I just find these walkthroughs incredibly interesting.
I was absolutely nuts about The Munsters when I was a kid. So naturally, I just had to see your two-video tour of their mansion. Thank you!
I was curious about the layout, etc. too. That's why I made it. I especially couldn't wait to walk down into the dungeon and come up the stairs where Spot would make his appearances. Hope these videos answered some questions for you.

I definitely have fun doing these. Great to hear others enjoy them.
Thank you for the adventure and fun. It was well worth the wait. I think we all want to get every little thing we can from the show and the wonderful home. Of course, as with many other people, the show has a very special place in my Heart, even leaving out the childhood memories that are special by themselves.... but also because I often watch the series, all the way through, now as an older adult.

The little door on Eddie's door was so babysitter Lurene Tuttle could slip in his food.
When Marylin pulled her door knob off she said Darn! Darn! Like Herman, very funny😆😆
Cute. I hadn't thought about that.
6:11 That shot was from "Munster Go Home", the feature film, and I believe it is from the ocean-liner state room, that they voyaged on from America, to England. I love this video.

Very cool. I own a hobby shop and there's been several model kits including the house, Herman, Grandpa, the 2 cars and an entire living room scene.
Cool! Growing up my brother had the model kit of the Munster's coach. I bet he wishes he had kept that. I had their lunch box. Wish I would have kept that. Who knew?
I'm 40 seconds in and I can't contain my excitement. You speaking so calmly as though you're describing about toothbrush or a new car. This is the MUUNNSTERRS HOUSE OMGGGG!. You're fulfilling my childhood dream except for the part where I actually get to go there! Omg TYSM!!🤩🤩

Thank you so much. 🦇
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane You're welcome.
Another place we have to suspend disbelief is the depth of Lily and Herman's, and Grandpa's rooms - they would have to be the same depth as the living room and the library because their balconies are on the front of the house. I'm so glad you did this one - the Munster's house is my favorite and I would build one if I could!

Wow- they've moved the Cleaver home onto Wisteria/Mockingbird Lane? It used to be way up the hill. When I got to speak with Tony Dow about it, I asked him where it had been when they were filming, and he indicated that it had been down near the Hitchcock bungalow, and Speilberg's Amblin bungalow, along the aqueduct at the back of the lot (Barham gate). This was just exactly where I was working at the time, but I couldn't possibly imagine how that part of the lot looked then. I'd love to see some wider shots of the cast and crew at work.

You're practically perfect in every way.
I can see in the library, a book or bookend that’s moved to slip into another room. Maybe it goes to the dungeon too!
Can't wait to see the munster house replica in waxahachie Texas
It's on my bucket list too.
Thank you! So glad you got this done!
It was a fun one.
You provided me with the answer to Marilyns room! The way room looked when she entered and then the boucany?
Great! Glad you got your answer.
Thank you so much and a great job..Did you know that the original house exterior was in a different location when the series was done.It was on River Road and then moved to it's current location. It would be great to see it remodeled to its Munsters look..
I didn't know that. I agree, I wish it would get completely remodeled to look just like it did on The Munsters!
The Munster's house also has a side entrance. You see it in a couple of episodes, like the one when Herman bought Marilyn a car from Fair Deal Dan. I guess that might be the door in the kitchen, though that would seem to be the back of the house. Of course the kitchen is an interior set on a sound stage, and the side entrance would be an outdoor set, probably a mile away somewhere else on the studio lot, so things don't necessarily line up.
I love when others get into the details of these homes 😊 Thanks for sharing.
Loved it! Thank you.
😁
Bravo! Well done! Back in the early '70s when I watched the show in syndication reruns, I went through much the same thought process, figuring out which rooms were where in the floor plan. I would sit in class in high school and sketch the exterior of the house and the entry hall with staircase. I have some photos of the exterior set from 1982 and 1998 from visits to the Universal backlot. Also, I took a couple photos of the replica house in Waxahachie, TX but couldn't take the tour due to the virus. Can share if you like.
Glad you enjoyed the tour. Hopefully you saw part 1 of the main floor. Love that you were figuring it out and sketching it too. I have tickets to go to the replica in Waxahachie this fall. I can't wait.

@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane Hi, my GF lived in Waxahachie until April this year. We tried to do the tour, called the phone number and left a message but no reply. Probably cuz of the virus. I have a photo we took from the road in front but there's no way to attach here for you. I also have a 1982 photo taken from the studio tour of the Universal backlot in Hollywood. I need to scan it so I could send. The set was mostly unchanged at that time.
@@tomwhittle9079 I would have loved to tour the lot then.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane I didn't get to tour it then but someone I knew did and got the photos for me. I need to find and share.
I've got my own version of the Munster House, but my version is vastly different. I gave Marilyn the front balcony and Eddie's room and across from her (as per the babysitter episode). I've got the hallway bathroom and attic stairs at opposite ends of the house and included Pirate Morgan's hidden room off the lab and an extra dining room seen briefly beyond the study.
Cool. How did you make your model?
I like how you have to open two sets of shutters to let light into Grandpa's bedroom.

It's Queen Anne or Victorian? My dad and I loved these houses SO much!
The Munsters is my 2nd favorite show, Bewitched is my most loved. Herman and grandpa together was such a hoot! I loved the ep. when grandpa turned Herman into a cocktail waitress. And one we still quote now and then, was the one where Herman was on a diet, so grandpa strapped him to a table in the dungeon with a little TV that kept showing all this food for Thanksgiving. He broke free and busted into a house to join a families Thanksgiving dinner. The quote is : "pass the cranberry sauce". When it's first ignored, he pounds the table and loudly repeats it. "PASS THE CRANBERRY SAUCE!!" Hilarious!
I recently watched an interview with one of the set designers, John Lloyd. He was asked what style the home was and he said Victorian. I have made a tour of the Bewitched home. It's on this same channel. You can find that home and the other TV and movie homes I've finished here: ruclips.net/user/MarinaCoavideos?view_as=subscriber

There is another room off the dungeon that you overlooked. Herman and Grandpa discovered it during a power outage. I believe the episode is called The Treasure of Mockingbird Heights.
Yes. With the treasure in it. Herman found it searching for the power box.
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane Actually, there was only a clue in the room . The treasure was in the back yard. Which reminds me, the treasure map was hidden behind a carving on the dungeon wall of a salamander.

My dream is to live in an old Victorian house with hidden staircases/rooms/hallways, etc. I could never afford to have one of my own,💔 of course. But they always say, “if you’re going to dream, dream BIG”. The extra “mystery room would’ve made a fabulous bedroom 😁

If I can remember correctly, when there were burglars or other criminals come to see how they could steal from or take advantage of the Munsters, they would hightail it fast once they spotted Spot or he them! And I think in the library there would be magazines too. Perhaps a collection of 'Mad' magazines. I think I remember I saw a picture of Herman reading one once.

@@davec2470 But, that also means it won't take long to make. 😊
I have always wanted to know a little more about the designers and people involved in actually building these sets, such as where did they find the props and furniture, and what inspired them. I guess they have all passed away by now but it would be a treat to hear from them if possible. I always favored the Addams Family over The Munsters because even as a child I found Morticia and Gomez' relationship to be so romantic and charming, I adored the way Gomez was just crazy in love with "Tish". Lily and Herman just didn't quite captivate me, but I have always wondered what happened to Lily's bat necklace. Somebody HAS to have it, I would think.
This was an interesting video, and I am one of the ones who did appreciate the clean up job you did on the house in Part 1. I always thought it looked like a grand house that would be spectacular restored. My mother was a big fan of Dark Shadows when I was a child, and we were talking about all the heavy gothic furniture on that show, and she made a really good point I hadn't considered about the mid-20th century design aesthetic. She said that during that time all the heavy dark Victorian houses and decorations were thought of as way out of style, dated, spooky, and stuff nobody wanted or appreciated. I watch episodes of Dark Shadows now and drool over those antiques, but she said those things were considered garbage at the time. Anything all carved and gothic wasn't appreciated or considered valuable at all, people were getting rid of that stuff, literally just throwing it out. Everyone in the 50s & 60s wanted light, open, airy spaces with streamlined furniture. It was all about clean modern lines, so velvet and tassels and heavy drapery meant you were old fashioned and just plain weird. So maybe that is part of why The Munsters, The Addams Family and Dark Shadows had such novelty at the time.
Thanks for sharing that information 😊
The best prop was Herman's gigantic lunchbox.
you need to make up actual floorplans of this house and see if it could actually be built....
So far I sti love the beaver home I love this
100 % agree with the library theory. Probably had first editions of the complete works of Edgar Allan Poe, Mary Shelley and Bram Stoker. I n one episode they reveal how deep Grandpa's dungeon is. when a company is trying to lay a pipeline through it. They can't believe how deep it is.
This was great. I always wondered how the Munster and Brady Bunch homes were laid out. Have you done Southfork yet?
Not yet. I'm working on Hogwarts right now.

the pilot episode was in color which convinced me that doing the series in color wouldn't be that hard
What are those cables coming out of the walls beside the doors? They look like some type of pull. I also saw one in Grandpa's room beside the balcony door.
Old fashioned light switches. From when a home was built before electricity and they have to be added later.
I can't imagine how many hours it takes you to work out these models, but I'm really appreciative of it. Thanks for doing all these designs and especially for sharing them with us.
I have a question about this home. Do you have any theories about where the rear stairs integrate to the second floor? I didn't see that as we toured the upstairs. On the main level, we clearly see the rear staircase land near the kitchen, but where are they upstairs? To my eye, they'd be inside of the master bedroom, or perhaps the mystery room on the side of the master bedroom. Anyway, just wondering if you have any thoughts on the matter. Thanks again.
This is such a great question. I have a theory, but I can actually check, because I have the top floor over the main floor. I just need to go back in the program and see where the stairs end up. I wish I'd put that info in the episode. You've got me curious.

I'm currently finishing up Home Alone. It will be out soon.
2 questions:
Where do the second set of stairs go? Looks like Eddie's room maybe.
On each side of the front door there are shutters, what are they for? Behind them there is a space, but really thin space. Umbrella storage. :)
Yes.The stairs end up in Eddie's room. I'm guessing we're just part of the design - not for function. I love when others get into the details of these homes!
Forgive me if this has been already asked, Marina - but will you be making an Addams Family house tour?
Yes. Possibly Halloween 2022
So behind the knight in shining armor at the top of the stairs when you go into that it turns and takes you down the back stairs?
It's a possibility. But it seems at the Munsters house anything is possible. 😉
In one episode they were going all around the upstairs and coming out of there. But it doesn't seem possible. They came out of the armoire in the hall too.
I know this is an old vid but I was watching the Munsters the other night and there is a scene where Grandpa comes up out of the dungeon, walks across the living room to the stairs then goes under the stairs, then emerges out from behind the suit of armor upstairs. So I'm not sure about the dungeon connecting to the under the stairs part, because it would make little sense for grandpa to come out of the dungeon to go under the stairs, but under the stairs definitely connects to upstairs somehow
Hmm. Interesting!
@@MarinaCoatesMockingbirdLane but I do like ur floorplan it's neater to have them connect
MOCKINGBIRD HEIGHTS WAS SUBURB OF LOS ANGELES,REMEMBER HERMAN TRIED OUT FOR THE LA DODGERS
I have a book of TV floor plans and the "mystery room" was labeled as "Herman's Library" so you got it close I think
Great video. Just curious, where do the kitchen back stairs enter onto the second floor?
I've had others ask that, so I made a graphic of it. I can't add images here. But if you email me at mockingbirdlanedesign@gmail.com I'll send it to you.
Hopefully you saw part 1 where we tour the main floor of the Munsters home. If not, you can see that and all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ruclips.net/user/MarinaCoavideos?view_as=subscriber
Thanks so much! I'll check it out.
I love how some of the window frames look a bit coffin like.
Yes. I noticed that too. The set designers didn't miss a detail here.
Ever consider doing a cg tour of the house from the TV show hazel?
Yes. I will do it someday. I have had a lot of requests for the home.
the Munster House wasn't a haunted house, but a haunted home, which is why we felt it as safe.
Yes. That's a good way of putting it.
What happened to Igor, Grandpa's bat? Also, never got to see the raven flying out
of the clock. That bird always cracked me up. And the telephone room? Otherwise,
good video. Still watch it from time to time on MeTV.
Glad you enjoyed the tour. That would have been a fun idea to add the bat and the raven flying out of the clock. I do have the telephone coffin there though in part 1, along with the long tassle beside it that opened it.
You can see all of the other TV and movie home tours I've made here: ruclips.net/user/MarinaCoavideos?view_as=subscriber
And let's not forget the Munsters' pet--Kitty, their black cat. 🙂
So entertaining Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
