#diy #restoration #car
This is the only way to apply bondo to a primer surface of any kind. You have to prep it right using a very coarse grit sand paper so the bondo or body filler such as polyester finish putty will adhere and stick to the damaged area. Once the bondo is dried you can continue to hand sand using blocks of your choice and repeating your process till the dent is fixed for good. Restoring old cars and trucks is a big job and takes time!

Big panels usually go quick it's all the little parts and details that kill the clock and put a beating on your joints, knees, hands and fingers. But there's only one way to get it done.. Appreciate all the info and knowledge you give..👍
This is probably one of my favorite channels. I love that you take time and share your f'n knowledge man! Always kickn ass, ive nearly quit on my project but your videos keep me jammin. Thanks man!!
Thanks Pete, I've been watching for probably 10 years and finally get to restore my C-10
Thank you Pete and Minnie! God bless you guys!!
I like your attitude. Do what works for you. 👍
Yea, of course I gave you a thumbs up. I'm not a body guy, but I like cars and I like learning.
My friend Pete putting in the work to make sure it's right... Good job, thanks for the lesson!!!
I just found you here on RUclips, and am learning a ton from you. Just getting into body work, my own personal stuff. Thanks for throwing out your knowledge....
Thanks so much for your help.I am in central Alabama working on a 1976 GMC 3500 dually truck. Ed Clements
This has become invaluable. I just got my a flip that will require that I fill in just a few spots of hail damage. Now I have an idea of how to do that. Many Thanks Pete.
Thank you so much, My Friend Pete, for this great advice. I'm currently resto-modding a '65 Barracuda and you're teaching me a lot!
Where do you get sand paper?
I really enjoy your live videos thank you for your time
DK, Omaha. Glad you caught you hood defects! The best part is the accidentally finding then going through the entire process of beginning to end. I did learn. Thank you for that. DK
Thanks Pete, love all the lessons, I have been getting to it myself now that I retired out the army. I have a rusty 77 924 that is kicking my butt, car was left out in the Texas heat for over 10 years. Trying to keep it all original, but it will need some patch panel work on both QPs, both floor boards and on the roof panel near the rear glass. Not dishing out money for new parts, minus mechanical and weather strips. I'm fairly comfortable with body work, I just hate how much different brands are out there selling paint, and how expensive things like ppg have gotten.
And that's just another reason you are legendary! I don't believe in those channels that have a patreon! That is nothing but E-begging.
Thank you Pete. I've been doing a lot of this myself lately.
Thanks for sharing your experience and time dude, keep them videos coming, SUBSCRIBED 😊 JR
Love your videos and how brutally honest you are God bless you will you make a video of how to get rid of high spots

The best teacher to all DIY guys who start learning from scratch. 🎉😊
Getting the point straight that runs down the middle of the hood is kicking my asss.. it had a dent in it and im having a heck of a time getting it right,,, its on a 94 chevy truck,., its more of a levee than a point..
Thank you for taking the time to teach us all who have a passion to learn & do the fucken situation get the fucken job done , love you brother...screwie Louie, Dyer Indiana...
Hahaha this guy is funny! I like your style my friend
Thanks Pete!
👍👍good job pete
Thanks Pete
Thank you Pete
I run into this all the time with aftermarket panels and especilly hoods and fenders because the samsonite gorillas in shipping always bounce my freight and dent, bend and pitt my new panels before i get em. Sometimes i prefer factory panels from salvage yards because of the better quality and fit
Craigger from canada Pete your the best am sometimes your to hard on yourself .Be proud of your work and thanks for your service to your country and Canada also because of guys like you we have freedom t y
Tx you ☝️✌️💪your the best
Pete good job.
Very impressive
Thanks Pete your great body man. Good videos you do. Can you please do videos on rebuilding the vw engine when you do it?
I've never done Bondo work before so I'm learning
My Pete you have help me with my income by teaching me!!! Thank you❤😎👍
That was dam good
I'm working on a 74 super beetle which had been wrecked. Do I need to strip all the old filler or can I just blend into the old?
I just got a hood today and it has a silver dollar sized high spot where theres a glob of goo on top of the bracing. Should i cut the goo out and tap the spot down or tap it with the goo in to provide backing so it might not buckle it? Or should i tap it at all?
Mario here too I love your work
This is the first time I've seen your video it really kicks ass. Making sure we could see your work. At a very young age I watched dad do body work with lead. This video is helpful showing how and what to use for the job today. I also like your choice of words you use. About other people's lame comments. If I ever have to stand in front of a judge, I'll need you to get our point across 😅. I'll be watching more of vids.
AMEN On the bondo palette buddy! Add the hunny!! Final bodywork bodywork. DUHH! Thanks for the cook video. Spend your ass in a shop like you and I do, you'll understand what the real deal is!!
Tim Davis from Kentucky
The filler to hardener ratio is based on a temp of 70f, it's a guideline.
MEAN KENNY GOOD VIDEO LEARNING
LOTS OF WORK
I love……Don’t be a couch potato……Get the bondo on the panel ! It’s funny how sometimes you don’t feel it, till you see it……then it’s like holy cow, feels like you could park a vw in the dip. I’ve never used honey, but, i like how it seems to make the bondo flow. Love watching and learning from your videos Pete.
Your Awesome my friend Pete
What kind of block
Would you use to do a really rounded panel like a Harley tank ?
Great info bro keep it up
how do you guide coat if you use BLACK primer. do you use white spray paint?
Lol 😅 great episode!
love your videos ...straight to the fucking point 👍👊 No BS and no fucking around.
Pete you can use chalk line powder works like Guide coat ,it works
What brand of blocks do you use?
Big Pete your the man , tell 'em like it is 🫵💪🏻❤️
I am redoing my siren housing and I sanded too far down to the base coat around the other newer paint and I'm struggling with a noticeable divet from sanding the paint would it be possible to just fill it in with primer or would I have to use this body filler
do u ever use 3M glacier compound?
Omg I like his attitude 😅 funny soo funny
Man I sprayed a Harley gas tank and fender 6 times!! Somewhere a king every spray at some point the paint reacted to something and had to start over. Finally just took it
To bare metal. If I do body work on high build do I need to spray primer over the body filler before I seal it?
You had another video that said to put bondo only on raw metal and not on top of primer. Im curious why not sand down to metal in the areas with the dents before applying the bondo? Thanks!
Do u have the answer for this question yet in wondering the same thing
@@aidenog7380 it must depend on manufacturer. SPI says to epoxy prime over the prepped bare metal to seal it. Then put the fillers on top of that.
I’m a crafter , but use bodywork techniques,I was curious if you could tell me the filler you use at 15$ a gallon .. I tried zooming in I couldn’t get the label ……keep up the great honest videos , they are very informative
Can you share where you're getting a gallon of filler for $14?
Looks like approximately $135 combined for a gallon and the plastic honey from what im seeing.
What primer are you going over
Beside the harder, what was the other ?
Thums up.
Pete what is the "honey" never seen that used before in bondo
Thank you pete repeat
Hi Pete!
I was wondering if the quality of the Bondo would be the reason why the work already done changed? Meaning that the condo would shrink or change to different temperature. What do you think?
Hey Pete, Is using bodo and body filler like doing joint compound on drywall. It looks the same, but not sure about the drying. Looks like your body filler turns a certain color like joint compound does. I've done hundreds of hours of drywall work. Never done bodywork. I love the corvette series you did a little while back. I bought a C4 ( next bodystyle) corvette a few months ago. 1988 convertible. Thank you again My Friend Pete. Wish you and Minni a great day.
Its crazy how much you have spent on the Baja. Catch you om the next video.
Dam I missed the live feed
I'm here Aloha Pete bro
Pete can you talk a bit about a sealer coat before paint
When you sand bondo it always clogs the paper until you break through the top layer of fresh bonds. Is there any way around this?
Right before it sets up' use an old sheet of 80 grit and scratch it up.
How did i miss this
Assuming you’re using sticky paper, where do you find them to fit the lengths of your long blocks
Never mind, i saw your mentioning a coming video…. I’ll see it when it’s out
Much respect pete for not taking patreon, it's always disappointing when a youtuber asks for it, as it shows the persons true colours, it takes a strong person to not fall into the YOU OWE ME mentality.
There's alot youtubers that are leeches
To be fair people deserve to make money even if they ask for it 🤷♂️ u don't have to donate money
@@darrelwright7343 yeah but alot of them are utube leeches
hey pete MEAN KENNY here i done a 67 gto hood it turned out perfect due to our friend pete
Peter I like your show. This block sanding is hard for me.
Hey Pete ! Teddy
👍👍👍👍👍👍
Big,Eric
Damn I thought I was the king of cardboard. Thanks for your quality content Pete .
I used a Viking sled on bigger jobs, don’t see them being used.lol
Does anyone know an alternative to the Evercoat Plastik Honey thats available in the UK?
Fiberglass resin what I use
@@chipdunham148 thanks, I never thought of that!
Mask up big dawg. We wanna see you here! You got more teaching to do
Bad ass bug Pete
Really like watching the OG body guys suck as yourself with Great tips on how to save money and do things properly... I had a 1 on 1 teacher train me and i learned so much! But I never actually got into the flexible primers and additives to primers/sealers, base, and clears
Is this epoxy primer or urethane primer?
And wouldn't you wanna sand over the putty with a 120 or 150 Grit after initially breaking it down with an 80/100 grit... Then finish off with a 180~220 Grit before re-priming the hood, so that way the scratches dont reappear with shrinkage over time...
Im assuming you do go over with a finer grit in its finishing stage before re-priming or use a good primer that has virtually no shrinkage... The Clausen All-U-Need polyester Primer alot recommend over body filler before using a final Urethane Primer... But just would like to know what Polyester and urethane Primers you use...
And one other question, what is out there for flexible Primer Sealers out of a can fir Plastic Bumpers and that sorts... I use the Seymour PBE Flexible Primer or SEM Flexible Primer Surfacer, but im trying to find a sealer out of a can that is good for Flexible plastics...
Any recommendations on Flexible Primer Sealers?
My question is can you paint over paint
Mike NC
