In the DVD commentary David Cross said that Schmul was based on the real-life landlord of an apartment he and another comedian rented when he first moved to LA. While showing David the unit the landlord told him he could do anything he wanted in the apartment including "fuck pussy in hallway". That line was a direct quote LOL.
its truly proof, we literally ARE the memories and feelings we instill in people. the energy we put into others, is us. nobody knows who this landlord is, but david, and that truly unique and explicit conversation they had, is all people now or in any future will know about this one funny landlord.
I thought of this skit out of the blue after a few years, and was so happy to see it on here. The chant/dance makes me lose it every time. Thanks for putting this up!
Danny Mothers! Yea, and I love it. Popcorn's Hot, Enjoy the Movies! I think it's from T&E Nite Live, which is an "effing" homerun (pardon my French)!@@jordach545
I saw Greg Behrendt doing a standup show a while back. Apparently, this skit is based on a real landlord he and David Cross had while they lived together.
According to the commentary, both landlords in the sketch are based on Bob and David's landlords at the time they were writing "Mr. Show". The apartment building in the exterior shots is David Cross's actual apartment at the time as well.
nowadays Twitter would be blowing up "they were such horrible stereotypes might as well been blackface! " just cuz they were white dudes acting foreign
nowadays the illusive “Twitter” would be growing into a 70 meter Giant that shoot fire out of its mouth as it’s tramples through the city streets at the sheer mention of “Comedy”. Thousands slaughtered in its wake. Millions of families scattered. The ends of time as we know it. All because it expresses sensitivity of the white dude. D:
@@JamesBond-xx1lv the stereotypical accents is one thing but they've also done sketches in black/brownface before and made some terribly racist jokes (e.g, jokes about slavery)
@@sophiersticatednobody cares b/c it’s not “racist”, it’s not like they’re specifying or satirizing any particular culture in this scene. It’s not even implied any possible pair of people in this sketch share ethnicity or nationality backgrounds. I mean, who in particular would be offended by this, especially when their accents are respectively accurate to absolutely none, so who is it exactly that is on the defense in this situation? The worst you can say about their accents are that they serve a bit to sell John Ennis’ character as a straight-man & to possibly present this vibe where the landlord’s bluntness is due to being a “novice” of our conventional standards regarding social-interaction etiquette, and perhaps you can say the dance comes off as “unenlightened”, but it’s really not at all a big deal whatsoever & actually helps make this scene funny/memorable if you aren’t going out of your way to look for things to go “yikes 😬” to like a media hall-monitor. And there’s plenty of people with vague (to the listener) accents in the country. And that’s no matter where you were born if you’re living here, particularly large cities. I don’t see why it’s not okay to satirize such a thing like that when it’s very much part of all of our culture here in the US. Also, as for the other stuff you referenced, FTR my Indian wife thinks Bob’s brown-face skit is just ironically silly & agrees it hasn’t aged well, but he’s still her favorite of the whole cast & doesn’t feel this need to dismiss the rest of what the sketch has to offer. Nobody says anything about Tom Kenny literally being the go-to to play a stereotypical over-the-top homosexual, because even gay people find it humorous, and white-knights would rather not call-out & cancel Tom Kenny b/c they grew up with him via SpongeBob.
This is perhaps the dumbest thing I have ever watched, ever, in 50 years. I try to laugh so hard but nowhere was there even a moment that I could even think of a laugh. I bet this didn’t last very long. Worst thing I’ve ever seen

Landlords are weird. it's a fucked up system that supports them.
It is. "You fuck pussy in hallway" is an actual direct quote the landlord said to David when he was touring the apartment.
Could watch Odenkirk in different getups all day
