I got the upgrade 2004 ML500 and its still a very very awesome drive. And you can buy roof spoilers, running boards and flared wheel arches for next to nothing and and parts as its an old car. I compared it to a 2015 GLE and other than looking much newer and having heated cupholders and bluetooth we had the same things. I love my Merc and to think it costs less than half of a new VW Polo 1.2

Great review of what is probably Mercedes most underrated car (truck is more accurate) the model other Mercedes owners love to hate, the passing of time is proving these trucks durability.
Ml430 engine good for at least 460,000k's with 10,000 oil & filter change . Gearbox only good for 270,000ks with 50,000k services. If you don't drive ot gearboxes can fail at 70,000k's. Catalyts (4) fail every 18 months(design fault). just use generic cats ($400) or make s/s system for life( $2500). Air sensor about every 5 years, engine mounts depends how you drive. Central Power window control every 3 years ($300). Sunroof wind deflector falls of, no fix for that. ABS pump may fail (get US direct $1200). Rear seats can get stuck in lower position (good luck, you will need an axe and oxy cutter). Stability control a great system compared to landcruiser, same with brake assist. Reasonably good for towing up to 3 ton .

utter rubbish, due to the huge numbers of these still on the roads parts are cheap for these trucks, don't believe anyone who says the build quality is poor, they are rock solid and built to last, I've had a lot of cars over the years, the w163 is easily one of the best I've ever owned.
Easy to drive big cars because of the visibility of sitting higher up... And you become a better driver by handling bigger longer vehicles you just use your mirrors more
Drove a diesel version of that generation of ML. It was the shitest car I have ever had the misfortune to drive. Maybe if it had been the V8 I might have felt differently 😒

Early MLs are insanely reliable. A car magazine once ran the engine for 100k miles and the pistons had only worn down by 0.1 mm.
