These has spawn a bunch of theories because of how vague her death is but the main thing people believe is that she fell down the stairs with her sword.
@@MouhZZ🚨 *SPOILER BELOW* 🚨 So in the anime/manga the reason we came to know of her death is "She fell down and died with her sword" but what we don't know is exactly how. So Shimotsuki Kuina is the granddaughter of a great swordsmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo, who left Wano illegally and reached East Blue and founded the Shimotsuki Village where we later met Kuina and her father and of course Zoro. And the swords Wado Ichimonji and Enma both were forged by Shimotsuki Kozaburo, which are both cursed swords. Wado Ichimonji became the family heirloom of the Shimotsuki Family but because of the curse no ordinary user could wield that sword and it took a heavy toll on the user who would want to use the sword to its full potential by using Haki. Only a very strong Haki user could wield this sword someone like Zoro and because Kuina wasn't strong enough the sword took her life. That's the gist of it.
Fun fact, Kuro isn't just toying with Luffy in the fight as he really can't see what he's doing when he goes super speed so even a slight movement can dodge his shots.
There is a scene in manga, which shows why Kuina was so emotional when talking to Zoro. Kuina's father was talking to a friend, how he thinks girls can be the best swordmen in the world and they were hoping Zoro will be the best one from their Dojo. Kuina listens than and fights with his father. She grew up in this environment as her father is from a nation that has mostly only Male Samurai's. She wanted to be the greatest swordwoman but even her own father, Dojo's teacher, don't believe she can. Some theories says she took her own life.
The zoro's backstory in anime is way to emotional when i first saw it. Like the dialogue from kid zoro "i am going be the greatest swordsman that my name will reach's to heaven" that line just gave me chills. You guys need to watch zoro's backstory in anime version for once asap ❤
Jackie Chan has said that if a fight scene has a lot of cuts and editing, it's because the actors can't fight. One Piece creators are lucky to have casted both actors and stunt performers who're all skilled enough to allow fight sequences to flow really, really well.
I like Kuina too, it's just sad that she died. She has a good potential, only if she overcome whatever society tells her so. It's true that men are stronger than women, but it's better if you continue to believe in yourself and do what you want. For a little girl, beating someone in her age with swordfight, she did really well and if she continue to train, I think she'll be an amazing fighter. But again, it's unfortunate that she died.
Really cool to hear the Zoro kuina fight explained by someone who can spot the details in form. Very informative. But it's very fun hearing you two talk about this show. And I want to say. I could close my eyes and listen to u describe these characters and this world.. And I wouldn't know if you were discussing the manga..or the LA.. 9 times out of 10.
Im new to this channel but I absolutely love your review videos of One Piece Live action. I am a huge One Piece fan, both manga and anime, and absolutely love how you both ask so many valid questions, questions that eventually get answered throughout the entirety of the series 😉
It was also vague in the manga whether Kuina died or not. It was also offscreen, so there were a lot of theories about whether she was still alive. The manga only explained it as "Kuina fell down the stairs". I wish they spent a little more time in Zoro's flashback. It was one of my favorites, but it was cut pretty short in the live action. In the anime we got a whole episode to it.
Interesting hearing "that scene was straight from The Matrix" - One Piece started in '97, The Matrix in '99 I'm not sure if the comic issue of him stabbing through the walls was before or after The Matrix - it'd be interesting if the scene was in the comic first (maybe not so much, considering how comic book like The Matrix was)
the sad thing about the syrup village arc, that you picked up on, is that it feels a little too rushed on the kuro luffy fight. In the source luffy was outclassed completely by kuros speed, and was vulnerable to his blades so was taking a lot of injuries while he was trying to figure out how to win the fight, and it felt more satisfying when he finally beat him. Hopefully in the next season they'll have a little more budget to allow for a couple more episodes to allow the critical scenes to breathe just a little more.
Budget is obviously a consideration, but I think the biggest hurdle is runtime. Covering so much content over the span of 8 episodes is a difficult task and that means that some scenes need to be condensed, unfortunately. But I do agree, hopefully they can expand the number of episodes so that they can highlight some of the fight scenes more.
If only luffy got 1-2more cuts from kuro and then kuro got hit by luffy throwing his hand backwards catching him behind like in manga(or in anime too, don't remember) the fight already would've been 2 times better😅
I'm a huge fan of Zoro and thanks to Mackenyu here with the new side of Zoro I love him even more. Mackenyu really did a great job and well yeah he is handsome just like what I expected if Zoro comes to real life 😂

😂❤ Another great reaction vidloved your analysis of the stunt work and choreography. I really enjoyed hearing the Insight on unproper technique in Kendo Can't wait for your guy's next video.
Mackenyu prolly does have a fan club already. Though, the only other media I saw him in is the live action Rurouni Kenshin movies. If Zoro's stuff here interests you (good live action stuff with some anime feel to it), I actually recommend those movies. Mackenyu is only in 1 of 5 movies though. The 4th one IIRC. The action scenes in those movies are awesome. Good mix of IRL sword fight choreography with some anime flare. Can't wait for you guys to see the next episode though. More Zoro goodness.
I think she died when delivering supplies to the dojo and slipped on some wet stairs and broke her neck during the fall. (It was something along those lines anyway). Been a while since I re-read the manga.
The blade gloves Kuro wears look a lot more realistic and useable in the LA, compared to how they were in the anime where they were full katana blades on each finger, which I imagine would be really unwieldy in real life.
In the original show, they say more that her dad is the sensei, and she heard him say she will never have the dojo because she can't be the greatest as a girl, so that explains a little bit more her frustration as someone who trains something every day since as a child and could even beat adults as a child, but will never be enough to her dad no matter what she does.
Kuina is actually dead. She died due to falling down the stairs. They probably omitted this because its kind of a goofy way for her die in most fans eyes plus it doesn’t really translate well with what kind of tone they were going for in the episode. However yes, Kuina is ACTUALLY dead
@@pistolero9836 Yeah but thats why I made note it was probably due to the tone of the moment as well. The scene really plays up the sadness so imagine hearing the words “she fell down the stairs and diedl coming from Kyoshirou’s mouth in live action. DEFINITELY would have ruined the moment they tried to build up. At least in the manga, the line was more so something told to him the moment it happened so we were able to get that information organically to where it didn’t feel comedic.
Kuina death is a key part of zoro's drive to be the greatest swordsman in the world. Kunia is the rival who always beat him so if he becomes the Greatest Swordsman in the world it means Kuina is the greatest Swordswoman in the world because he never beat her so forever in his mind she is better than him.
About Kuina's death, in the source material it was also said to be an accident. But a prominent fan theory is that she died by suicide. No one could tell Zoro, as he was a kid, naturally. But yall are right, no body seen means there is hope!
A terrible fan theory at that. If true, that just destroys her character entirely. The scene where they made a promise to each other was meant to be hopeful but she would just unalive herself the day after? That's just stupid. It would make much more sense if she was killed by someone else considering her lineage. Maybe some crazed swordsman went in and demanded a powerful sword and Kuina became a victim because she was wielding a Meito sword. Koushiro would then deal with the swordsman and retrieve the sword on his own and tell Zoro it was an accident so that he wouldn't grow up fueled by anger because some nutjob killed his best friend. It might sound more plausible but I still prefer the original. She might be more skilled with the sword but she isn't a tank like Zoro. I believe that falling down the stairs was really fatal for her.
18:00 Jaby's got tingling sensation for that, and then they show Usopp. I wonder if thats how he gets the idea of using scratchy sounds against enemies.
You should really try the anime after this. The live action captured the essence of the anime very well, but the details in anime elevates the stake and emotions of these scenes to a legendary extent!
When he said Grandpa Garp I swear I could hear Garp's laugh from the anime in my head. 🤣 This was a fun episode to wrap up Usopp's introduction story to the Straw Hat crew. I was surprised by the change in the story with the kiss at the boat yard. To the best of my knowledge I don't think that was in the anime even though I felt it should've been. Captain Kuro was just like he was in the anime including the way his blades were designed with the gloves. Also Captain Kuro most likely had Hyper Running (moving lower body fast), but not Hyper Speed (moving upper body fast). Those are Marvel super power examples to explain his movement in combat. Marvel characters like Quicksilver have both Hyper Running and Hyper Speed. The backstory on Zoro was good and reminded me a lot of the anime version. I used to be a fan of Zoro until the Franky arc where there was a fight over the fate of the Going Merry with Usopp. I won't say any more about that because they will most likely tell that story in an upcoming season since a new crew member is introduced in that story arc. I'm pretty sure Zoro's rival Kuina died in that accident. Pretty much every time in Japanese media that I've seen a photo of someone presented like that the person is normally dead. I never saw her appear again in the series and I've just finished watching Luffy's fight Kaido King of Beast for the first time in the Wano Kingdom arc which is fairly recent. Enjoyed the reaction 👍👍✌out.

Done D staris
When they played the OG theme song at the end as they sailed away on the Going Merry, It was so surreal! Loved that
The One Piece live-action series understands what it means to be a nakama.(In Japanese, nakama means colleague, compatriot, friend or comrade.)
Man I remember when I had a few friends who would call each other that. Real world kinda sucks.
The way you phrased that reminds me of the fansubs of old 😂
"Everything went according to keikaku. (keikaku means plan in Japanese)"
Fun fact, Kuro isn't just toying with Luffy in the fight as he really can't see what he's doing when he goes super speed so even a slight movement can dodge his shots.
Kuro couldn’t see what he was doing in his ultimate attack(shakushi), not during super speed(stealth foot)
@@michaelzheng3015 I'm guessing they combined the two for the show. Add in the cat playing with a mouse factor and it's all settled in.
The pace that you wanted for the fight with Kuro is in the anime. Again this is an adaptation so everything is shortened in the live action
The OST for this show is AMAZING! ❤
the genre motifs are incedible
In the anime/manga kuina falls some stairs, they kept it more vague here.
Kinda better in my opinion
Yeah, having a martial arts expert dying to some steps would cause more confusion than them just not telling us anything lol
@2:36 you're not wrong at all lol🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
I love the passion you show for your interest in Kuina.

05:35 Zoro Flashback
22:35 Bell, New Ship, Kiss
25:24 Grandpa?!
Merry sailing off and Luffy sitting on Merry while playing the OG bg music...I bawled my eyes out! 😭😭😭
26:09 - You werent suppsoed to find out about Garp being grandpa till like episode 314 in the anime 😂😂
Btw the actors did dheir own stunts ❤
Let's just say Garp Luffy's grandpa is someone you do not want to mess with. Garp is very powerful in the anime
I'm loving you guys cover up of the series and all the insights!
I just love how you guys breakdown the scenes.... Itz good to hear different opinions...... N u guys always do the best on that.... 👍👍👍
The zoro's backstory in anime is way to emotional when i first saw it. Like the dialogue from kid zoro "i am going be the greatest swordsman that my name will reach's to heaven" that line just gave me chills. You guys need to watch zoro's backstory in anime version for once asap ❤
Hearing them playing "we are" got me all emotional...
Jackie Chan has said that if a fight scene has a lot of cuts and editing, it's because the actors can't fight. One Piece creators are lucky to have casted both actors and stunt performers who're all skilled enough to allow fight sequences to flow really, really well.
Kuina's dad: Sorry Zoro, Kuina, she's gone
Zoro: What? How?
Kuina's ghost: I fell down some stairs
Kuina's dad: She fell down some stairs
no way i just finished the first 3 hoping you'd drop the next part and here it is lmao thank you.
i was waiting for hourssss
Never expected someone to like Kuina so much 😂
If they do a season 2 it should pick up with Loguetown arc where they introduce Tashigi who tags along with Smoker. If you know, you know :)
Im shocked show's great I've seen it twice now and might start a third watch I heard the captions are hilarious!
Really enjoying your reactions
Interesting hearing "that scene was straight from The Matrix" - One Piece started in '97, The Matrix in '99
I'm not sure if the comic issue of him stabbing through the walls was before or after The Matrix - it'd be interesting if the scene was in the comic first (maybe not so much, considering how comic book like The Matrix was)
the sad thing about the syrup village arc, that you picked up on, is that it feels a little too rushed on the kuro luffy fight.
If only luffy got 1-2more cuts from kuro and then kuro got hit by luffy throwing his hand backwards catching him behind like in manga(or in anime too, don't remember) the fight already would've been 2 times better😅
oda is one of the show runners he signed off on the pacing
I don't know too many ppl that liked this arc much anyways
@@houseofaction uh..he is not exactly a showrunner, he approves as exec. producer.
I'm a huge fan of Zoro and thanks to Mackenyu here with the new side of Zoro I love him even more. Mackenyu really did a great job and well yeah he is handsome just like what I expected if Zoro comes to real life 😂
So in the manga and anime, when Kuina died there was a body and they said that she 'fell down the stairs'
Coolest swordsmen alert! Mihawk incoming
you guys are so awesome! i absolutely love your reactions Q_Q things you pick up on that are just slight teases to the hardcore fans and you're like "why aren't they showing more of this". if you guys dont end up watching the full show (totally understandable with its length) id love to see reactions to the backgrounds of each character so you at least see the difference there and what they didnt have time to include. absolutely loving these reactions though
guys I'm loving these reactions. No one beats the Reaction duo of Jaby and Achara. ❤
😂❤ Another great reaction vidloved your analysis of the stunt work and choreography. I really enjoyed hearing the Insight on unproper technique in Kendo Can't wait for your guy's next video.
16:34 Music during Zoro's backstory so good. Cool of Achara to catch the parallel.
Any one heard bink no sake in the background when shanks having conversation with luffy
In the anime, we learn about the grandpa part around episode 315 lol, in live action comparison it would be like season 5 or something like that.
Man ! I was just keep refreshing the page for this
27:35 Mackenyu also played a major character in one of *Rurouni Kenshin* movies a couple years ago 👍
24:16 that's the original One Piece theme playing in an orchestral version
Mackenyu prolly does have a fan club already. Though, the only other media I saw him in is the live action Rurouni Kenshin movies. If Zoro's stuff here interests you (good live action stuff with some anime feel to it), I actually recommend those movies. Mackenyu is only in 1 of 5 movies though. The 4th one IIRC. The action scenes in those movies are awesome. Good mix of IRL sword fight choreography with some anime flare.
Can't wait for you guys to see the next episode though. More Zoro goodness.
Kuina's "accident" is still one of the mystery of OP until this day. 😅
no its not, she fell down a flight of stairs
I think she died when delivering supplies to the dojo and slipped on some wet stairs and broke her neck during the fall. (It was something along those lines anyway). Been a while since I re-read the manga.
It was through the machinations of dreaded Down D. Stairs
@@iamcool544 Sure.. she "fell"
@bobson3014 if you think it's the suicide theory then that is just a made up fact falling down the stairs isn't another way of saying suicide
I have been following u from 2019 maybe or before but I have never waited for any of ur videos to come but this one I waiting so hard...
I wanna see their reaction to find that she (Kuina) died falling down the stairs 😂
When do we see the grownup version of Kuina?
*Down D Stairs* has entered the chat
Down D. Stairs is merciless
Me encantoooo ! Y lo ultimo que dijo ABUELO SI QUE DEJA CON GANAS DE VER MAS ...
Granted it is not *as* goofy in live action considering peoples' endurance/pain threshold isn't as crazy as in the manga.
I loved this series....need season 2 and more asap
Kuina death is a key part of zoro's drive to be the greatest swordsman in the world. Kunia is the rival who always beat him so if he becomes the Greatest Swordsman in the world it means Kuina is the greatest Swordswoman in the world because he never beat her so forever in his mind she is better than him.
You perfectly explained why Zoro is that much more of a good character.
12:56 I knew they weren't gonna agree with that.
Yeah I knew that too but that’s what happens in America you just can’t agree with reality and instead pander to woke politics
13:55 LOLLL HE JUMPED
About Kuina's death, in the source material it was also said to be an accident.
But a prominent fan theory is that she died by suicide. No one could tell Zoro, as he was a kid, naturally.
But yall are right, no body seen means there is hope!
Suicide? The theory i know is that she was killed by her dad lmao what different sides of theory
@@aurum6664both are wrong.
@@bryangarcia5207 what makes it so obvious? The fact that it's "theory" (insert:surprise pikachu face). Grow up
@@aurum6664 theories are not hypothesis they require observable evidence to be a theory.
0:09 its "the british are coming" a quote attributed to paul revere, which interestingly enough he didn't actually say.
18:00 Jaby's got tingling sensation for that, and then they show Usopp. I wonder if thats how he gets the idea of using scratchy sounds against enemies.
cant wait till yall finish the series
Yes Jaby, the monks used to shout "The Vikings are coming" or at least that's how Hollywood interpreted it.
Sad :( RUclips forces two full view ads on this before it can be seen. But nice video I did not bail like I normally would :)
@CinePals 27:17 Jaby is asking because he was thinking of starting/joining one this entire episode as was I haha 😜🤣
You should really try the anime after this. The live action captured the essence of the anime very well, but the details in anime elevates the stake and emotions of these scenes to a legendary extent!
Falling D. Own the stairs
".... nearly as good as a poop !" - Achara Kirk, 2023 🤣😆
21:54 Mackenyu's Zoro got him some Lady stans just by that.
Down D stairs took her life😭
I remember i was in senior high school (2003) when one piece came got aired here in the 🇵🇭
21:35 that's literally that haha, he's the captain of the black cat pirate, and cat love toy with their prey🐈⬛
"hey, everyone is coming." 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Achara, you are reminding me to much of Luffy "when you keep mentioning poop" 😂
The stunt is called a Raiz, you were pretty close with the double leg/540 as it's the same setup. 👍🏼
The redcoats are coming
kuina died from falling from the stairs (which is ngl like the most mundane death you can have in one piece) and we were shown her body in the manga so she is definetly dead.
13:34
“When do we see the grown up version of her?”
Down D. Stairs: 😏
In the manga. Kuina's death is by falling off the stairs which we do see and to be honest it's kind of dumb. So i think that's why they skipped it
5:04 Usopp's run is famous🌝
✨🔥Yes i was waiting for this🔥✨
I like watching you guys. Best reaction ever. Next episode, please 😄
