One Piece Cast Interview: Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar

- One of the biggest reveals that Netflix fans were most excited to see during last weekend’s TUDUM was any kind of news about their upcoming adaptation of One Piece, the long-running manga and anime series that has captivated hundreds of thousands of fans across the globe. Aside from bringing out the main cast composed of Iñaki Godoy, Mackenyu, Emily Rudd, Jacob Romero Gibson, and Taz Skylar to Brazil for the event, the streamer also unveiled the first trailer for the series and a release date that is just on the horizon.
After the trailer was unveiled, Collider had a chance to talk with the main cast about their favorite anime series, what they hope the One Piece live-action adaptation is able to accomplish, how long they want it to last, their favorite set pieces and locations in Cape Town and how similar they are to their characters.

I can’t help but get emotional with the humbleness in Iñaki’s speech when he talks about Luffy. This cast has been so good at expressing their excitement towards the project that I’m excited for THEM to be able to show the world the passion and effort they put into this.

Holy shit, I knew nothing about them before this interview but Emily Rudd is based af. She is literally our girl as Anime weebs out there representing us. Just cool to see her nerd out so much. For all of their sakes I really hope this adaptation won't be as disappointing as all the other live action adaptations...

I've been massively obsessed with One Piece since 2000 and I can't stand the people who think live action adaptation attempts somehow negate the original and somehow suddenly taints it. This cast seems really fun, and One Piece more than anything is about the crew having fun on adventures together.
Like yo, it's a cartoon tv show turned into another tv show. It's really not that serious. People act like live adaptations are akin to botched surgeries or a family member dying. Everyone needs to relax, give things a chance, trust Oda sensei, and shit if you don't like it then move on with your life.
Even if it does flop (Which I doubt it will), we still have the manga and the anime to enjoy.

same here, I started one piece in 2002. Other than my family this show has been the most consistent part of my life. But still is just a TV show, as far as it's not like dragon ball evolution, it's all good.

tbf something being mainstream doesn't mean it's not quality. Hunter x Hunter and ESPECIALLY one piece are mainstream AF. One piece has been a part of practically every generation's BIG 3 anime since dbz.

Whoever did media prep for this kid is amazing. The actor who plays Luffy has so much natural charisma as do the entire cast. Every single one of these actors deserves for this to be their break out moment. Every single one of them nailed it. Every single one of them has the potential to become mainstream A List actors and have the charm to genuinely perfectly fit right into Hollywood. I’m really proud of them entire team the entire cast and crew and the entire list of anyone who helped put this piece of art to live action in such an authentic honourable way. All of you deserve your flowers, and I’m just one of the MANY, very happy fans to give you them 💐

I'm 24 now, but when I was watching One Piece over 10 years ago, it was still considered the #3 of the Big 3.
And now look where we are.
The only manga/anime of the original 3 that is still running. A movie that played in ALL major theaters. A NETFLIX adaptation with hundreds of millions of dollars on the line.
This journey brings tears to my eyes, constantly.
I simply can’t hste Netflix One Piece at least for now. I adore these guys their chemistry their passion
