Thank you very much for putting this series together, I especially like the little tips which should make using project a lot more efficient. Is it possible to download the sample files you’re using in the videos? Being visually impaired it’s sometimes a little difficult to follow exactly and I feel it would be easier to have a well-made file to be able to look through. If the files you’re using are not available, could you please suggest an alternative file I could download that is well-made and good to use as an example to go through? Thank you very much for any assistance you can provide.
Oh that is big, it is called Pull planning and is part of lean construction. I think I have a video on it in the tools tips and techniques playlist where i compare short term schedules but I plan to do much more on that. Check it out, it works at getting better collaboration
Hello Tom! Thanks for the excellent viedeos! Nevertheless, I have an (actually simple) problem for which I do not yet have a satisfactory solution. Software development area: 5 features are to be implemented in a software. Each feature consists of the tasks "implementation", "documentation" and "test" (where implementation and documentation have to be finished before the test can start, but that's a simple detail). For each feature, it is estimated how long implementation, documentation and testing will take respectively. However - and now the problem begins - the individual features have no explicit relationship to each other. Perhaps two developers are assigned to the project, and they can pick out the individual features in whatever order they feel like. Maybe they start with feature B, then feature C, then feature A... If I now enter these features in Project without a relationship, they will all be planned at the same time - which of course doesn't work (and is indicated by corresponding overbooking of resources) and shows me the wrong total time at the end. I actually don't want to artificially enter relationships that don't exist (Feature B can only start when Feature A is finished), because I then have to change a lot when they are processed in a different order. I tried to work with "Level Selection", but then the tasks are also shifted very strangely... Do you have a good idea (or a video? :-) ) for this problem?
Perhaps whenever they start place a lag related to the start activity that makes them start seqentially without durect links when you update it will show if they sarted in a different order. Im assuming they all nerge into a successor at some point. Hope that helps
@@TomStephensontraining I think this would only show the correct dates after update. But I would like to see when the project is finished. So if I have one developer with 100% time for the project it takes a certain time, if I get assigned a second developer it takes less time. If the customer requests a sixth feature it takes more time.. If all is sequentially and in order, then it works fine, but when there is no real order then there does not seem to be a obvious solution. In the construction business this is maybe comparable to the three tasks "Paint bathroom", "Paint kitchen" and "Paint living room" - there is not a real order, they can be painted in any order, but not at the same time if there is only one person who will paint. So if these tasks take 3 days each I would like to see 9 working days presented from MS project.
It should show the correct dates if the lag on the last activity pushes it out to start at the end of the middle activity. I mean you could do this a few ways and when you execute as long as you change it reflect what actually happened you will see any impacts.
Yes but not as easy as it should be and it depends what you want to plot. For cash flow got to reports, cost, then cash flow click on the chart and the field list right side you can edit
If you are able to open msproject then just click on blank file when it shows the templates. That is was shows first when you open project. If you don’t see that then perhaps it is not loaded on your computer properly.

Hi Kesavan, I'm not sure which S curve you are after but if you want to see an S curve, go to the reports tab, click on Cash Flow and then if you see the chart, click on the chart and the menu will show at the left of your screen. Click on where it says Time Edit, now select the time period you are after. For example months will give a cumulative S curve for the money flowing out of your project by the month. This only works well on a cost loaded schedule with all the costs loaded as you intend to pay it out. If you try this on a file with no costs loaded you won't get anything. I'll try to illustrate it in an upcoming video.
